I saw it. Despite the claims of friendship it all seemed a bit tense!

Yeah they definitely weren't 'over it'

Well, it's no great loss to Zola to be honest. Decker was a real b**ch to her for a long time. Not the kind of friend or even passing acquaintance that I'd want.

WOW, Keni Harrison! Really pleased for her. Slowly but surely those women's records are falling. Maybe Keni can also have a crack at the 400H record during the USA's off-year in 2018?

I disagree. It wasn't last year. Without the 3 intersex athletes it was super-competitive and close with about 10 women going into the world champs having a genuine shot at a medal. The racing in Beijing was terrific too, right from the first round.
1. Not unlikely. It's one of the if not THE weakest WR out there.

2. That is true. Everytime Caster is running you know she's gonna win so a bit boring indeed, but then there is this small chance that she might break the WR...

Just realised that the Olympic Stadium has now played host to both the women's 100mH WR and WHB.

I'm doing a preview for Rio for all the events. If you have some time you can read the first part (focusing on the sprints) here:

Enjoy!

I think they implemented the reforms that the IAAF had been asking for.

Ah OK. Thanks.
Russia also "felt" they had done the same, I'm sure, so interesting to see what the differences were

Good stuff. I think Bromell may cause a surprise and end up be in the best American in the 100, Gatlin could end up being the 2nd best American in the 100 & 200. Don't think Shelly-Ann will be on the podium this time. Wouldn't shock me if Schippers does the double. The women's 100 should be a great showdown whereas I can only see Dafne winning the 200.

The men's 400 was 1 of the best races last year in Beijing & hope for similar this year as Long as Kirani or Wayde win. The 400 should be a great head to head between Miller & Felix. The article on Semanya linked to earlier in the thread States that she wants to run the 400 but her coach thinks she shouldn't. Time will tell who will win that battle but she'll be a real wild card if she does run.

Agree can't see any Brits making the 100 finals. Dina & Adam should both make the 200 final and could both sneak a bronze if one of the top 3 falters. Think there will be a lot of annoyance should Gemili finish 4th or 5th behind the 2 American drug cheats.

Think Britain will get 2 relay medals. Women's 4x4 should get bronze, not too much competition after the US & Jamaica. And we have chances elsewhere so at least 1 of them should come through. Interestingly the German women have run 41.62 in Germany earlier.

Breaking on twitter, looks like Dendy is out and Hartfield gets his berth in the LJ.

A nice read. Hope Gatlin can improve on those 10.7s from last year though. He doesn't want the women beating him!

I generally agree with what you say. The women's sprints look more open than the men's. People talk about a Dafne double but I wonder if Elaine Thompson might be the one to pull it off. Capable of 10.7 & 19.6 and has a good championship mentality.

I think the most British sprinters can hope for are places in the finals. Having said that the men's sprint standards don't look like they'll match those of 2012 giving our men a chance. Women's sprinting looks exceptionally strong at the moment.

The men's Long Jump could be one of the most competitive events of the games. Greg has dominated in recent years with all those 'lucky' jumps but I think for the first time since 2012 he's going to have some real competition and in numbers. He's going to have to be in good form to medal and in his very best form to run. Someone might jump 8.60 plus!

Many thought that last year in Beijing, but was it 2 of the Americans that didn't make it through qualifying?

The EA Senior Championships are taking place in Bedford this weekend - the weather conditions are inducing the odd eye-opener, like Mannheim. (To think that two W4x100m squads have gone sub-42 before Rio and neither of them are the big two...!)

Joel Fearon (who might win a global medal in the bobsleigh within 2 years) won the 100m title with a PB of 9.96 (+2.0m/s)! 20 y/o Reece Prescod also ran a PB - 10.04 (+1.5m/s) in the heats!
