Emily Diamond through to the semis as a fastest loser.

No gold for Malachowski
Dramatic last round! No signs yet of Christoph Harting ripping his vest off like his older brother ...

Oh wow. So there'll be 18 in the final.

Treacy and Praught a bit lucky considering the slowest fastest loser was still faster than their PBs.

Yeah, they would never have made the final.
But like i biriefly mentioned, they couldn't really distinguish the three...

Strange decision to send all 3 through - if one of them was at fault, send the other 2 through by all means. If a runner who didn't fall was at fault that could justify sending all 3 through. But, if no-one was at fault ... hmm, I don't know. Presumably it wasn't a fault in the track that would justify sending all 3 through with few/no questions.

Someone was at fault I think, but not sure if it was one of the other 2

This track is incredibly slow for the sprinters.

So very disappointing.

Disappointing but competition wise I expect good things still.
In my dreams KJT comes out and launches a monster row in the Javelin. But she's never shown that she's that type of athlete. I HOPE that right now she's staying positive and strategising.

Notable absentees in the next round of the men's 100m, in order of times:
Spoiler

Looking at the above and seeing the heats this morning I think that GBR will be well ahead of TTO and GER in the relays. Main competition comes from CHN and JPN, providing USA and JAM get the baton around safely!

It wasn't slow when SAFP was on it.

Jess Ennis-Hill will have to have the throw of her life to in the javelin for a chance to beat Nafissatou Thiam for the the gold in the heptathlon tonight.
I think it will be too much for Katarina Johnson-Thompson to hang on to bronze, it's likely to go to Brianne Theison-Eaton.

I've just realised Christoph Harting's medal ceremony was held in a near empty stadium after the 100m heats. Why didn't they hold it between the heats or during the evening session? He did make the most of it though. Such a character, like his older brother.

But she walked like that when she got the British high jump record.... not having a go at you Jimmy, but I do feel Kat is still sufferring from slightly negative public perceptions after her disaster in the long jump last year. Apart from Thiam none of the expected medallists threw to form or even ran as fast as hoped for in the 200. Lets hope for better today (and 2mmrw morning) and fingers crossed for the sandpit.

Definitely have my fingers crossed for her. Not long now.

"Super Saturday" was always going to be difficult to repeat in the athletics ...

Still no-one has found the keys to beating Mo, despite him falling. Once again he toyed with them.

In a dramatic final round (the final rounds are really delivering in Rio!) Greg produced his best jump and claimed bronze just after Henderson had snatched the gold. Lawson then thought he had it won with what appeared, at first sight, to be an 8.40-ish jump but a trailing hand in the sand left him very confused when the scoreboard flashed up 7.78 instead.

Jess made a brave effort to retain her crown doing very little wrong but Nafi Thiam played a blinder. Now, if only Thiam could run ... (just like, if only Kat could throw). Jess looked genuinely pleased with her silver.

It seems it was the deepest heptathlon of all-time. From the IAAF report - "Ikauniece-Admidina finished with a highly respectable score of 6617. Only once before, in Barcelona 1992, has a score that high not been enough for an Olympic medal ... In a competition of unprecedented depth, six women surpassed 6500 for the first time in history. Best marks-for-place were set for sixth, seventh, eighth, 10th, 11th, and every other position from 13th downwards."

Terrific run by Matt Hudson-Smith to reach the final. He goes 6th on the UK all-time list with his 44.48.

The top 10 on that UK list are covered by just 0.21s. A little test for you to mull over whilst Crammy & Paula are waffling to fill air-time during the women's marathon this afternoon ... Can you name them all? I think I would have got 8 of them (I forgot one from last year and one from about a decade ago is tricky.) Bonus marks for getting 7 or more of the times correct too.

IMO, If KTJ wants to win any medals, she will have to start making some major changes.

Thiam had five PBs out of 7 events, and Jess could still have one with a slightly better long jump or javelin.

The commentators are awful. No attempt to explain the scoring, and what the performances meant while watching.

The BBC just showing everything recorded and then as live a bit later.

I watched the 10k, and thought I saw a fall live, but there was nobody on the track. Then they showed it. Amazing that Fatah only lost a few yards.

She needs decent throws ... Nothing spectacular but just mid-pack throws like Jess does would put her right up there with Thiam in 6800 points territory. But, finishing 29th out of 30 on the 2 throws will never get her anywhere near. Mick Hill transformed Jess's javelin throwing. It might be a very good move to nab him as soon as Jess retires.

I wonder if she suffers badly from nerves though? The BBC camera lingered long on her before the 200m and she looked terrified. If you're over-nervous then more technical events like the throws will be the first to suffer.
