Yep, an incredible performance. Really wasn't expecting it. We're entering the era of sub 43 racing. British commentators will need to stop saying someone's had a good run because they crept under 45. They won't though as they still hype sub 10 runs.

It's funny that BBC TV and Radio are going on about Team GB and Bolt this morning and this is barely getting any coverage.

Hmf.

No posts on here

Things that surprised me:

-Cichocka out
-Adam K out. I expected him to medal for sure. He's been so good all year. What happened to Poland? Cichocka came last in semi and looked horrible
-Elaine winning 100. After semi I thouight SAFP would take it
-Christine out. Expected her to at least make final.

Things that didnt surprise me

-ADG winning bronze
.WnR winning on new WR. He came very close last year.
-Dafne missing medal. She didn't look that good. Will be suprised if she takes gold in 200. Even medal can be hard.

For now

Eric Liddle famously won in the outside lane in Paris 1924, ran the race as a sprint (unusually at the time seemingly) and broke the world record (time 47.6) in winning the Olympic title.

Its all about era's and it has moved on again.

Fantastic viewing.

Im so happy bolt won. No way did i want a cheat like gatlin winning it not that i ever thought he could. Hopefully bolt can add 200 and 4x100 too. Would of loved to have seen him try the 400 but a bit too late now I'd expect age wise.

That run by WvN was amazing! When the clock turned 40 then 41 I thought we were going to see 42.9x. Nevertheless, WOW!

Yep, very surprised. She just had nothing left. Nothing wrong with little Sofia Ennaoui's famous kick though. I'm really pleased she made the final. Doing her usual thing in these top races, 2 metres off the back of the field with 250 to go ... she must give her coach and family heart attacks every time she races!

Thought the last lap of the 2nd 1500 semi was fascinating. Dibaba, Hassan and Muir were absolutely flying between 1100 and 1400 - each of them covered it in inbetween 42.3 and 42.5 (!) ... Dibaba looked flat out, even in the last 100, but Hassan pretty much stuck with her - it seems Hassan has got some of her zip back. With my slightly biased Laura hat on I'd say that Laura took her foot off the gas a bit in the last 100 so she also looks great. Given that Dibaba couldn't really shake them both off that convincingly I'm going to flip-flop and now say that Kipyegon is the marginal favourite for gold and Laura faces an almighty scrap with Hassan & Seyaum for bronze. Whatever the case, it's an absolutely stacked event these days.

Looking forward to the women's steeplechase final at 3.15. Seeing the way Jebet ran her heat I wouldn't bet against another World Record.

In recent years I can only recall Jeremy Wariner in the 400.

Yet another issue for Seb Coe to tackle. It doesn't really matter at senior level of course, but it does for the Junior & Youth championships.

However, if some of them don't have birth certificates or certain countries don't have registers of all births, I'm not sure what you can do. Apparently there's something about bone development in late teens that can be an indicator of age but it sounds like an imprecise science.
