Other notable performances in the past few days:
* Dibaba clocked a 8:22.50 WL to win the 3,000m in Sabadell, which historically is bettered only by...surprise surprise, Dibaba herself during that triple-record spree a couple of years ago.
Meanwhile, Jess Judd won the BUCS 3000m in.... not quite as fast a time But at least it means she might be on course for a decent summer at 1500

Kenya has selected its teams for Cardiff 2016.

The men's team will be led by defending champion and race favourite Geoffrey Kamworor; he and Stanley Biwott have both gone sub-59,* not to mention coming second and first respectively in last year's NYC Marathon.

This race is a potential precursor to the Olympic 10,000m as Kamworor's biggest threat could well be Mo, despite all his teammates having superior PBs (they're all sub-59:30!*); he is also targeting the WR (currently 58:23).

-----

The women's team is loaded - it includes the four fastest ever* in this order:

Florence Kiplagat - 1:05:09 WR, 2010 champion, three-time major marathon champion
Mary Keitany - 2009 champion (in Birmingham that year), four-time major marathon champion
Cynthia Limo - 2016 RAK HM champion
Gladys Cherono - defending champion, Berlin Marathon champion

Out of those four, I think Keitany has the highest strike rate in top-tier half marathons.

-----

The organisers will be delighted with the women's team in particular, as the shift to the spring road season (starting with Copenhagen 2014) was done in part to attract more of the big names - in Olympic year, that is particularly significant.

Some of those names will do the London Marathon 4 weeks later.

[* On record-eligible courses]

A breakthrough performance by Jade Lally in the Discus earlier today. She produced a best throw of 64.22 within an impressive series. This improved her PB by over 3 metres and easily over the 61m Olympic Qualifying mark. An English record to boot, 3r best on the UK all time list an the best throw by a Briton since the 80s.

Queen Val in her first competition of 2016 threw 18.85 in the shot. She has been selected by New Zealand for the World Indoors

The World Indoor trials are taking place in Sheffield this weekend, with live streams of the event to be shown on the UKA YouTube channel.

To gain automatic qualification, you must win your event and achieve the applicable standard; this does not apply to relays or combined events.

As implied by CGI, this year's WICh will be held on a green track. That's a first for global champs AFAIK...

Oh boy! They should just give the medals to the kit kids and be done with it ...

Ukraine's Anna Mishchenko has been stripped of her 1500 metres silver medal at the 2012 European Championships in Helsinki after being handed a two-year doping ban for an adverse athlete biological passport (ABP) finding.

Mishchenko, ninth in the Olympic 1500m final at Beijing 2008, had originally crossed the line third in the Finnish capital in 4min 07.74sec behind Turkish pair Aslı Çakir Alptekin and Gamze Bulut.

Çakir went on to claim the Olympic gold medal in London before being stripped of both results and handed an eight-year ban for a second doping failure.

Bulut, the runner-up at London 2012, moved up to gold while Mishchenko shifted up from bronze to silver.

Russia's Yekaterina Gorbunova, fourth across the line in Helsinki, has also been stripped of her result due to a doping failure.

That means Nuria Fernandez of Spain and Diana Sujew of Germany are set to move-up to silver and bronze, despite originally finishing fifth and sixth.

A European Athletics spokesperson has confirmed to insidethegames today that the medals will be redistributed for a second time.
...
http://www.insidethegames.biz/articl...assport-result

I wouldn't even be sure about Nuria Fernandez given her coaching links, and how the hell have they not got any dirt on Gamze Bulut? The way she appeared from nowhere in 2012, there's no way she's clean.

Also, a 2nd case has been opened against Tatyana Chernova relating to an adverse ABP finding ...

... An appeal had been issued into the timing of her initial two-year ban, but this procedure is now being suspended until the outcome of the biological passport case is known.

It is possible this could ultimately result in a longer suspension in which she is stripped of other performances. ...

Jess might get that 2011 gold after all!

The Tokyo Marathon takes place in a couple of days' time.

Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich is hoping to earn selection with another top-3 finish, like he did in 2012. As expected, the event also serves as an Olympic qualification event for the Japanese men (plenty of which are in the elite field).

Rutherford has pulled out of Sheffield due to a chest infection, though he still intends to compete in the WICh. Despite the rules on participation in the World Indoor trials, it's hard to see the selectors leaving out the reigning Olympic / World / European / Commonwealth champion. (He is also second in the world rankings.)

Here's a press release on the bigger names competing in the trials, along with direct links to the livestreams:

Respect to all on here that post links but especially to you two. If there's one thing I hate almost as much as dopers it's trawling for links and through TV schedules.

Hopefully Chernova will now finally be stripped of her 2011 world gold & also her 2012 Olympic bronze with Jess awarded her 3rd World gold & Austra Skuytje upgraded to another Olympic medal (I have always liked her)

It has only been 2 days and Lally has already improved her PB to 65.10m in Sydney, which now puts her second on the all-time UK list behind Meg Richtie (whose 35 year-old record stands at 67.48m). With this kind of form, she could be top-8 in Rio.

Apparently she even got the better of 2009 world champion Dani Samuels in said comp (which could be a first).

You're welcome.

My first port of call is always http://www.watchathletics.com/ The Upcoming Events section at the bottom of the page lists what they expect to have streaming links for, or you can check using the Schedule & Results link in the top menu. Sometimes you have to wait until an hour or so before the event for the actual stream link to be added.

http://www.usatf.tv/ is good for, you guessed it, US meetings (and the US road race series). They have loads of video on demand too though it can be a bit choppy. Let it buffer up first - even then it can be choppy sometimes, so if you have Internet Download Manager (IDM) integrated into your browser it's best to download the videos. Incidentally, IDM also works for downloading from Eversport - both sites use the same video player.

If you know that a meet is on a particular foreign channel then http://www.sdwnet.co/ is very useful. For example, Canal+ Sport (schedule - http://www.mycanal.fr/guide-tv/grill...html?epgid=177) show most/all of the French indoor & outdoor elite circuits (usually good international meetings). As with most streams though, getting a steady, stable one is always a bit up in the air (I only have regular broadband though, not super-speedy fibre - I don't know if that's at the root of my issues).

I don't know, maybe you know most/all of this already but someone else might find something of use in it.

EDIT: Forgot to include http://trackandfield.bplaced.net/ which is also useful. If your German isn't up to much, use a browser with a translator facility such as Chrome.

Great to see Jade back up her performance. With 2 Olympic Qualifying marks she only has to finish top 2 in the trials to be guaranteed selection now. Hopefully that means she can set her horizons a bit higher and will also get more invites to higher profile meetings with better competition including Diamond Leagues

Yep, same here. Now I've just got the pre-stream image. I guess they're aware of the problem and are trying to sort it out?

Edit - got stadium sound now but no moving pics or commentary.

My back-up plan is to watch the German Indoor Championships (in Leipzig) from 2.52-5.39pm (yep, those are the scheduled times!) at http://schoener-fernsehen.com/live/stream/de/EUROSPORT/ I've tested this stream and it's great - you need to allow the peer-assisted bandwidth.

It would appear the people running the British Athletics Indoor stream finally replaced the Vincosports dial up modem for the ISDN one...

Was the stream quality this bad when they covered the trials in 2014? (Also can't believe Channel 4 was the last TV network to televise this event in 2012, IIRC...)

[Edit - seems to be alright for now...]

It's a comedy of errors - the 'on' switch on Kelly's mic apparently not working; showing the wrong replays repeatedly ... what's next?

The 2014 stream was really good and really professional, which is why I was so surprised with how poor this one started today. Seems to be fine now though.

Can someone explain how Tosin Oke can seemingly be Nigerian one week and British the next? Or are these championships an open event?

Seems the dodgy microphone has been handed over to Martyn Rooney.

He said he's hoping to go sub-44 in Rio this year. It might be a blessing that only a few people could hear him.

Oke is still Nigerian. There's a few of other nationalities competing. I saw an Ivorian & another Nigerian on the entry lists. Maybe it's to do with residency in Britain or maybe they are open events (subject to meeting the entry standard)? Not sure. I do see it happening in other countries' championships also.
