I'd love you to be correct but I still think the bronze is Wambui's to lose. The others just can't compete against the testosterone raging through the veins of their competitors.

THread so quite. So happy for MMB getting the bronze.
I really like him. Thompson was so good wasnt she? And US 1-3 in 100H. It was a bit either/or. Either like this, or 2 of them crashed out before final. ou cannot say it wasnt deserved. Also happy fopr Barytoletta. Don't really like Reese... |

I predicted a Thompson sprint double. Next season should be good if SAFP isn't injured and Dafne finds her peak form and Bowie learns from her experience. Women's sprinting is more competitive than men's.
Bolt said on BBC if he continues next year it's 100m only! I thought it would be 200m as he's untouchable unless Blake can get back to his best. I suppose USATF will feel justified in leaving Kendra behind since they still managed a 1-2-3 in the hurdles. Long jump looked like it wada great competition. Damn those late night showings!! |

Its a shame final are being held in the morning sessions in front of one man and his dog.
Also I see the British mens 100m team only just qualified after more rubbish baton handovers |

Yep, Merritt must be favourite for silver I'd imagine. De grasse will be disappointed if he doesn't medal,
I wouldn't mind lemaitre getting a medal even though he's French! Feel a bit for him after he burst onto the scene five six years ago... Has gone backwards a bit in terms of performances. Of course, fingers crossed for Gemili! Quote:
It was almost as if Lemaitre was done with sprinting. Over raced and was now physically shot
![]() I like him. Heard an interview he did in English and he sounds like the sat nav in my car. Good luck to him. ![]() https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb5m4FI_-uo |

Nia Ali, and Kristi Castlin's first outdoor world medals. Elaine Thompson seems to be taking over from Fraser-Pryce now. Wonder if we will see Fraser-Pryce grace the Tokyo Olympics. She'll be 34 by then I think. |

Wow,I have never seen anything in my life like that before now. So close to sub 43! Weltclasse could be something else this year.
The 400m record is so hard to break: Michael Johnson spent his entire career trying to do it & finally managed it when he was 32! Van Niekirk, theoretically, has not reached his prime yet, so barring illness or injury & providing someone like Kirani James can be a major rival, he could reasonaly be expect to clock sub 43s in the future. |

Thought they had nine lanes, so if they do get a qualifying time, just let them use lane 9.

The USA 4x100m ladies will re-run their race (on their own) at 11pm (UK time)
42.70 to beat. |

They have 9 lanes only down the 100m stretch but only 8 around the rest of the track so there is no room to just add an extra team like they can in a long distance race. I think USA have been lucky but it will be daunting for them to run on their own, probably to the sound of booing by many of the spectators.

Surprising as recent tracks, London at any rate do have nine lanes all the way around. And lucky to get another shot IMOA given it wasn't as though the Brazilian's were outside their lane. Should be a doddle with no other teams on the track to distract.

Or GB team as it likely makes it harder for them to get a medal.

Did the USA women's 4x100 relay team get impeded or something? I stepped out of the room and missed that. Why did they get a run-off to reach the final? Is it another case of the officials just letting every single protest through? It seems that way this week. It's like they've said to everyone who appeals, "Oh, ok, we can't be bothered to argue or prove anything. Congrats! You're through!" I suppose by that logic the Chinese appeal will be successful and the US will be out again. Whoever appeals last wins!Quote:

So as much as I *hated* them getting another chance, it might have been the right decision? Though as someone said, had it been Zambia, they probably wouldnt have bothered... |

We've seen some really incredible results, haven't we? The sprints were fantastic.
I said Elaine was the only lady capable of doubling, and it happened. Terrific sprinting by her. It's a huge shame SAFP was hampered by injury, but she was still able to nab a bronze under those circumstances, which is nothing short of incredible. I expect her to be back to winning ways very soon. Wayde Van Niekerk was simply mindblowing. That was one of the most brilliant athletic displays I've ever witness. He looked so apathetic about the whole thing too, bizarrely. Bolt completed the double, as expected. The winning times were his slowest ever though, if I'm not mistaken. I guess winning is what truly counts, rather than times, but his aspiration of running sub-19 was optimistic, to say the least. The women's 400m was thrilling, what a finish! A lot of Americans were upset but I had no problem with what Miller did. I doubt it was intentional anyway. |

Yeah, the outcry, especially in the States, about Miller's dive was a bit silly. Whether she did it intentionally or not (I definitely think she didn't) there's nothing in the rules that says you have to step over the line and be upright. |

A bit like Almaz Ayana, it seems to me that he comes across as being quite shy and not given to public 'outbursts' of emotion.
Yeah, the outcry, especially in the States, about Miller's dive was a bit silly. Whether she did it intentionally or not (I definitely think she didn't) there's nothing in the rules that says you have to step over the line and be upright. The Miller/Felix scenario really highlighted just how entitled some people can be when nationalistic pride comes into play. If the scenario was swapped, with Felix falling and Miller just missing out, there wouldn't be a peep from those folks. That's just the way it goes, I guess. |

I posted this in another thread but it will probably go unseen so I will repost here:
Gemili's changeover was poor. And guess who was involved in the DQ at the London olympics? Sadly, I can't defend Adam here. Harry has been involved in some shaky changes over time, so has James Ellington (his fault last year IMO, and he was involved in a poor change in Moscow and of course today with Adam) and Richard Kilty just doesn't deserve the spot (and he's an unpleasant man). These three athletes were previously coached by Rana Reider who was also the relay coach and even though he's now left the UK, some of the entitlement and privilege still remains for these three athletes. Last year, after getting disqualified, the blame instantly went on CJ. It was a witch hunt witnessed before our eyes directly after the race with the aggressive Richard Kilty shouting at CJ after the race. You even had Harry, who had been dropped from the final, retweeting tweets along the lines of "you should have been out there" "why would you change a perfect team?", etc, which was very unprofessional. How can the girls get it so right and the boys get it so wrong? It doesn't help that they're delusional and genuinely think they can win. 5th place (which was 6th before the USA DQ) shouldn't shock anyone, especially with that lineup. Back to the drawing board AGAIN, after Phil was practically hanging a medal round their neck. |

What was the issue with the 4x400m men's relay?
Listening to the radio this morning they seemed to have no idea.. That might have been going down the football route of "we've done nothing wrong" excuse though.. Excellent to see our ladies get the bronze in the 4x100m, I sense a bit more desire and togetherness from them. |

Trinidad and Tobago had a clear lane violation. The 4x400m was set to be an enjoyable and competitive race to end everything off. It's a shame the favourites couldn't get through without a hitch but the evidence is there. |
