Well, a grand crowd tonight, but things were a bit flat. It looks like season has finally caught up with the travelling circus.

Hmm, another pair of British male sprinters who have missed the opportunity to move on they were they supposed to this year.
It's almost as if they get their sub 10 and think, yep we've made it.

I was a bit unimpressed to see that was Adam's season best tonight and CJ, like James Dasalou just seems a bit soft for this 100m lark. I want to see a bit more focus and intent on the start line.

Aww, good race from our Laura. Her 3rd time under Kelly's old British Record, and all in just 6 weeks! Didn't Kipyegon die a death down the home straight though?

No time for Laura to celebrate her winnings just yet ... She has the 5th Avenue Mile against Jenny Simpson this Saturday. Perhaps she can have a snifter or two on the flight back.

Startlists for the 5th Avenue Mile - http://www.nyrr.org/media-center/201...ay-september-3 (Centro + O'Hare in the men's race; 3 Brits in the men's and 4 Brits in the women's)

Live streaming - http://www.usatf.tv/gprofile.php?mgr...ideo_id=185868 (Women's race starts at 6.15pm UK time, the men's at 6.30pm).
USATF.tv is subscription-based these days but this broadcast is free to all.

Do you think outside of the Olympics and the World Championship that Zurich is the next most important event on the calendar
In days gone by it used to be known as the Mini Olympics.

Poor! I think Gemili should concentrate on the 200m and just do the odd 100m for speed work. He's never going to cut it at the shorter distance. Ujah seems to have gone backwards like the others into Harry AA territory. He can consistently knock out quickish times but he's stuck in the third tier of sprinters behind the second tier guys who battle for the bronze behind Bolt and Gatlin.

Questions. In his commentary Brendan Foster has said there used to be heats in the 10,000 meters, when and why did this stop?

It stopped about the mid to late 80s as I recall. The IAAF went more to a qualifying times policy because they had become a bit farcical. Either there were races in which some guys were getting lapped multiple times, or there weren't enough entrants to make it worthwhile. And just having a straight final meant that they could always have a medal race on every night of the meet.

I used to lookforward to watching the Weltklasse every summer when I followed athletics a lot more closely than I do now... .. Did Kevin young run his ridiculous 46.78 in Zurich? He was on another level that year...

No, he did it in Barcelona 1992.

On the subject of Zürich, the Letzigrund stadium record belongs to Samuel Matete of Zambia, who clocked an AR of 47.10 in 1991. He's still fourth on the all-time list.

Surprised nobody has posted the good news (unless you wanted a ticket and don't get one) about the ticket sales for next years World Championships.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/athletics...r-rio-heroics/

- Set to be a sell-out
- 1,047,000 applications for tickets received
- 6 of the 14 sessions over subscribed (200,000 applicatons for the mens 100m final session alone)
- 486,000 of the 700,000 tickets have been sold
- Those who missed out on the over subscribed sessions will have first refusal on remaining tickets
- Any remaining tickets will go on sale towards the end of the year.
- 70,000 tickets for children priced at £9.58 have all sold out.

I wanted tickets for the final Saturday and Sunday evening sessions to make a weekend of it. Only got the Sunday even with the price bump thingy. Better than nothing I suppose...

...and traditionally, the Swiss drop the baton.

Your British DL winners in full

2011: Dai Greene, Phillips Idowu, Jennie Meadows
2012: Robbie Grabarz
2014: Shara Proctor
2015: Greg Rutherford.

So if Eilidh makes it a double next week, it'll be a pretty good achievement
Shara did not win in 2014, since that would've meant 4 British girls could compete in Beijing 2015, and I distinctly remember Jazmin Sawyers being put as a reserve since our 3 spots were occupied. If I remember correctly, it was Bartoletta who won the 2014 DL, and then went on to win Beijing 2015 Wch.

Good news about next years worlds. I now have two sets of tickets. The first I bought during the second of the priority windows for GB athletics supporters which are for the first Saturday. This was going to be it but then a few weeks latter found out one of my cousins had chosen that date to get married so went into the public ballot to try and get some alternatives. Which I have and now have tickets for the second Saturday.

Hopefully they open up an official ticket resale/exchange, the possibility was mentioned on the official site - otherwise my family could be going twice!

As for sell outs I remember Berlin in 2009 was very well attended, certainly the evening sessions all looked to be sold out from watching on TV. Hopefully Jess continues which should ensure at least one of the morning sessions is sold out.

Later than that. They were still running 10000m heats in Sydney. Stopped shortly after that.

They used to run 4 rounds of the 100, 200, 400, 800 & sprint hurdles. Current athletes have an easier time.

Got some tickets for 1st weekend in the priority window earlier this year.

Applied in the ballot for Thursday-Sunday sessions and got Thurs & Fri Night plus Sat Morning. For those on here slating him, am confident I will be seeing Adam Gemili winning a medal in the 200m on Thurs eve.

Any word of a mascot yet? Perhaps they could borrow one from Scotland for a while.

I've heard they've made an audacious bid for Cooly the Cow, personal terms have been agreed but image rights might still be an insurmountable obstacle to the deal.

Thanks for answering my questions. The thing I find curious, is that IAAF rule 166 still provide for the possibility of 10,000 meter heats?

...
Yep. And the last World Championships to have heats in the 10k was Gothenburg 1995.

Also tomorrow is the Berlin World Challenge meeting, live on Eversport supposedly from 5pm, though their stated start-times never seem too reliable.

Startlists - http://www.istaf.de/en/0/starterliste.html. Some pretty loaded events and several Brits competing.

Well done you. When are you getting fitted for your prosthetic arm and leg?

I got home straight (hopefully) tickets for the Tuesday evening sessions. I get to see five finals - the women's jav, men's 800, 3000 steeple, 400 and pole vault. Noice.

A very healthy interest in athletics shown by the amount of applications....

One of the sessions I've got a ticket for includes the women's 200m and long jump finals. Whether or not we'll see something resembling 21.63s and 7.14m happening at the same time once again (which I won't be forgetting for a long time ) remains to be seen.

I'm also looking forward to the opening ceremony on 4 August.
