Am basking in this Diamond League meeting for two reasons

1. Great crowd and atmosphere

2. Stuart Storey's commentary. Miss him on the BBC - didn't realise his last commentary for the BBC was in 2008. He is a consummate professional.

I didn't know the Smurfs were a Belgian export.
]
Oh yeah, Les Schtroumpfs/De Smurfen, as Belgian as waffles or trappist beer.

Will the Baby Faced Destroyer's 5,000m WR survive the night? We'll know within 20 minutes.

Another feature of Brussels: the Drummers of Burundi giving it laldy at the crown of the bend in long distance races.

As usual, all our Brit 5000m runners happy to slot in at the back...

Maybe I'm being a bit hard, Eilish McColgan gets a PB, but really there seems to be a bit of culture of second best settling in amongst a promising generation of female long distance runners.

McColgan Jnr. PB'd apparently.

Long way back, but nice work all the same. Now that she has her legs in, I'd like her to show a little more enterprise next season. It might blow up in her face from time to time, but that's life.

Gemili, looked like the winner there!

Come on Stuart, the Smurfs are hardly going to be able to tell are they!

Another heartbreaker for Adam.

Looking at the photo I still think he got it.

He got a PB out of it, so hardly a heartbreaker (merely somewhat agonising). There were no global medals on the line on this occasion.

19.97 (+0.8m/s) PB for both himself and Julian Forte. Martina also under 20 seconds - can't remember the last time 3 did so in a single DL 200m.

Sandi Morris vaults to a 4.88m DLR in the women's pole vault!

Ouch, Jeroen D'Hoedt tastes the track in the men's 3,000mSC.

-----

Morris vaults to a 4.94m WL/NR! She even broke Isinbayeva's MR for good measure.

Jäger so close to what would be one of the supreme achievements in international sport, beating the Kenyans in the 3000m. Some French bloke in third.

Sadly, Michael Rimmer unable to participate in the climactic 800m of the season because of a transport strike - delays resulting from the 1926 General Strike, in fact.

No, Stuart - Kipketer ran that 48.63 in the first lap of the WYCh 800m in 2013.

In any case, that's a ridiculous opener at any age.

Holy shit, Morris has vaulted 5m!!

That makes her only the second vaulter to hit that milestone outdoors.

Nice work by Sandy Morris. 5 metres.

Now, don't wanna sound churlish, but I'd be highly amused if any one but a Borlee won this next race.

Irony is that Elizabeth Borlee is now the only Borlee family member with an Olympic Gold Medal....following a retrospective DQF for the Russian 4x100 Beijing Champs.

Santos just did a Martyn Rooney and crashed the Borlee benefit.

Should mention that 5m vault is also an AR.

Luvo Manyonga ends his year in style - he has an 8.48m (+0.1m/s) PB to add to his Olympic silver medal. (South Africa have a group of world-class long jumpers, but he wasn't the one I was looking out for these past 3 seasons.)

Adam probably never wants to see a photo finish again. Surely we can rig the Photo finish camera in his favour at the worlds next year, home advantage & all that. Great to end his season with a PB.

Great performance by Sandi Morris. However glad she didn't break the world record tonight - Isinbayeva has to be in the Stadium when that happens so we can see her reaction.

It's a Polish thing, I think. In Ostrava this year Joanna Linkiewicz did the same when winning the 400H - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G_Z8SOotPU

Yeah, good progress for her this season but she does need to be a bit more adventurous at pushing the pace. From the limited amount we saw of them last night she was content to let Steph do all the work in that little group. She was able to beat Steph last night because Steph seems to have shot her bolt for the season but earlier in the year Steph was leading Eilish out and then still out-kicking her on the final lap (e.g, the British Champs + Amsterdam).

I believe it is designed to push the torso forward and with less loss of momentum than with a dip. Might be something that will catch on next year.

not content with ruining the 800 now caster is setting her sights on the 400
The contents of the IAAF's "Complaints By Athletes" in-tray will be doubling in volume this week.

Semenya goes in the 400m....wins it. Her beautician needs to do a bit of work on her sideburns, though. People will talk. Unless she's planning to put in some work as an Elvis impersonator over the winter though.

David Rudisha and Lynsey Sharp clocked WB of 57.69 and 1:06.62 respectively to win the 500m races.
