Coaching - or will we see as in football and other sports a lot of our retired ex athletes just rush into the media and the BBC studio?

I'm not sure that punditry will be where Jessica's talent lies (and it's not where Denise's talents lie either)
![]() ![]() ![]() TBF Denise has got better since her atrocious early days but that's not saying much I suppose. Thanks for the memories Dame (only a matter of time surely) Jessica. She was a wonderful competitor and a winner and always remained dignified no matter the circumstances. A real credit to the sport. Much as I wanted to see her in London 2017 no-one can begrudge her if she feels the time is right to go now. BTW I think Jess is articulate enough, personable enough and has enough grace under pressure to be a good pundit if that's what she wanted to do. |

I disagree.
If that were the case, she'd wouldn't have gone to the trouble of contesting the hep in her last two majors. Even in the 2015 Hypo-Meeting (her first hep after 2012), she wouldn't have kept BTE at bay in that 800m if she was merely going through the motions, given that Brianne had the win sown up at that point. |

2014 was never going to be the peak of her career regardless of her decision to start a family.
Even with the additional responsibilities that motherhood brings, athletics became a high enough priority (again) for her to contest Beijing and Rio - if she wasn't truly up for more glory and didn't believe she could win more hardware in the global champs, she'd have called it quits before now. |

Two televised races on Sunday
Amsterdam Marathon on Eurosport on Sunday 08:30. Although it's dead flat, the course is a bit too broken up and twisty for really fast times - humpback bridges, some cobbled sections. http://www.tcsamsterdammarathon.nl/e...rdam-marathon/ And the Great Birmingham Run half marathon, live on Channel 5 at 10:00 |

She seemed rather surprised to win the World Championships last year and was playing down her chances in Rio despite being favourite and didn't seem particularly disappointed at coming second. She's still only 30 but the hunger and desire wasn't there anymore.

Greg seems more naturally suited to a punditry role to me. And Toni Miniciello has done a bit of work for the BBC this year also. I thought he added some good insight at the World Indoors. |

Vermin have ripped out seats at the Olympic Stadium last night.
Makes you wonder what state the stadium will be in for the World Athoetics. |

They probably regret giving the contract to West Ham!
Its said there aren't enough stewards with the required experience and a lack of police but then most other teams would have settled quite nicely into the stadium without a hint of trouble. Think its just an excuse really - trouble is the fans are so close and the Hammers do have a bit of history - as do Chelsea. Against my team (Watford) they only turned nasty when we started winning and the mob closest to our fans kicked off. |

Super run by Charlotte Purdue in the Frankfurt Marathon today, gaining a World Champs qualifying time and a 2 min 44s PB for 5th place. Going through halfway in 1:14:36 she was agonisingly close to finishing sub 2:30 ... she ran 2:30:04!
Also a 1 min 15s PB for Tracy Barlow in 9th, 2:32:05. |

Pleased for Purdue after her promising debut in London earlier this year.
In other news it seems that Jazmin Sawyers has auditioned for The Voice & did well by all accounts. If she gets to the live shows depending when they are it may mean we will see little of her if anything indoors. Also the latest funding announcements are due this week. Always 'interesting'. |

Just had a quick scan through now, some notable coaching changes.
- Tiff Porter now being coached by her husband, seems she's split with Rana Reider. - Cindy Ofili, who's gone straight onto the Podium level is now being coached by a convicted drugs cheat; Garfield Ellenwood ![]() - KJT still no coach listed - Morgan Lake, who's now at Lufbra Uni is now coached by Aston Moore rather than her dad. - Jazmin Sawyers is now coached by Kelly Sotherton in Brum, big scalp for Kelly and her burgeoning coaching career Oh and seemingly no funding for Martyn Rooney, Dai Greene, Andrew Osagie, Will Sharman, Laura Weightman or Matt Hudson-Smith. |
