Ennaoui's famous kick takes her to victory. (In the absence of a British winner) I'm really chuffed for her. She doesn't win many races these days but she's a terrific little runner.

Good running by the British ladies, winning the team Gold from Germany with 4 in the first 12. As I thought, Alice Wright was our best shot at a medal and so she did, winning bronze.

Approaching halfway in the Men's U23 and the lead group of 6 contains all the pre-race favourites - Mayo, Kimeli, Davies, Petros & Crippa as well as a very un-Swedish sounding Swede, Napoleon Solomon.

Good battle on the last lap. Isaac Kimeli of Belgium taking gold. Jonny Davies will be a bit disappointed with 5th I imagine. Bronze for the GB team.

GB still awaiting an individual gold or silver. Can Steph do the biz in the next race?

Yasemin Can and Grovdal might be the biggest barriers to that. Steph & Grovdal had 2 very close races on the track this year, Grovdal prevailing in both by about a second.

Julia Bleasdale making her debut (?) for Germany but Italy's big hope, Veronica Inglese, is a non-starter.

10 mins in and two Turkenyans have broken away by 20 seconds (rolls eyes) - Yasemin Can and a second, Akda, who I don't know much about. The Brits started slowly but are moving up.

Not to be for Steph! 6th again. Fell away in the last 800m or so from the group of 4 battling for bronze. Grovdal took that medal. Great run by Ancuta Bobocel from Romania in 4th, both the U23 & Junior champion a long time ago.

Silver for Team GB. Gemma 12th and very good runs by Katrina Wootton and Pippa Woolven in 16th and 17th.

Good, aggressive start by Butchart & Hawkins, leading a breakaway group of 5 after 4 mins.

See Russia, this is how you do it.

Don't dope your athletes, just buy them.

Cross country really isn't my thing, but I saw about 15 minutes of the men's race. Shame to see it being messed about with like the Euro Athletics championships were in the summer..

Brave effort by Callum & Andy B to disrupt the Turkenyan's plans. Callum 3rd, Andy B 4th and backed up by Andy Vernon 5th and Ben Connor 16th for Team Gold by 4 points from Spain.

It's the injuries. She has no pace at the end of races anymore. I do think she still has at least one great track season in her though. Silver is a pretty decent result but didn't they win last year?

The first time since 2005 that we haven't had an individual champion. Having said that, I feel like British distance running, both men's & women's, is in the best place it's been for a while.

Callum Hawkins & Karoline Bjerkeli Grovdal are the true European XC Champions.

I think today she spent too much energy making up the gap after a slow start and giving away too much time to that group. On occasions though, as Crammy was saying, she does seem to have recovered some of her pace this year - 2:02 for an 800; 62s for that last lap in Amsterdam; 1:35.6 for the last 600 in the British 5k trials; 4:06.2 for 1500. But yes, today it was a fast race throughout so it was harder to produce at the end (and I also think maybe she's over-raced a bit in the last year.)

I'll stand by my previous prediction that she can go sub-14:50 soon. Also, at 26yo there's still plenty of time for her to achieve more medals at European level (maybe in time at the longer distances?)

Yep, we won the team gold in the women's for the previous 3 years but it was clear looking at the team this year that it was a bit weaker than usual.

Great result overall, there was nothing to be done about Turkey's Kenyan imports, but everyone in the team came away with a medal, Unfortunately Turkenya's 3G 2S was enough to top the table, but GBR's 3G 1S 6B was the highest total.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen is amazing. At 16 he wins the U20 race. I thionk he might surpass his borthers already in Tokyo, though it might be too early.

He's certainly a huge talent. I hope he can sustain his progression rather than it being a case of him physically maturing early.

Both his brothers had soem "issues", mostly Henrik being an arrogant prick, and then Filip being an even bigger arrogant prick in Rio. He could easily have had the gold if he hadn't behaved the way he did in the heat

I like Henrik, he goes for it and his new Village People/Freddie Mercury look makes him stand out a bit. I also like that he's started doubling up in the European Championships (the last 2 anyway - indoor & outdoor). Anyone who 'doubles' gets my respect.

I don't yet know Filip well enough to have formed a solid opinion on him, but yes, it was ridiculous what he tried to do in Rio.

Oh, that moustache is *ridiculous*. But it does stand out. Luckily.

FI actually seemed like a decent enough guy until that incident. It wasnt so much what he actually did, its the sort of thing that can happen, but his reaction after. No blame at all. He was like what was I supposed to do? Charlie Grice was running too slowly. And his dad was the same.
Which was true, but he should never have been in that situation in the first place, and Norwegian commentators even said so during live race; why don't you go out in the final 100.... Aja.

Didn't notice this last week, but the British line-up for the Edinburgh Cross-Country in the New Year looks pretty strong.

The IAAF have started their end of year reviews - one a day (except Christmas Day) until the New Year.

Both completely deserved.

One that might go under the radar somewhat amid all of the rightful praise for Sir Mo, and Dame Jess, is Sir Roger Bannister's award: The Order of the Companions of Honour..

Valerie Adams also made a Dame in the NZ list.
