Whatever times are run this year the untouchable so called 'world records' of Flo Jo still annoy the hell out of me.

He actually got dropped by Nike after the Olympics, I guess he simply doesn't have the star quality sponsors look for.

Same here. A few months ago there were talks that Lord Coe was in favour of erasing the ridiculous world records, and Flo Jo's were mentioned specifically. I really hope that happens this year, particularly that 10.49 since it was also boosted by a hurricane.

Went crawling back to him since though. I think Greg has just always been in the shadow of Jess & Mo. He does OK financially though I'm sure. And I can see him doing better once he retires, he seems more of a media natural than the other 2.

For those who watched the championships on EuroSport. Did they show any of the medal ceremonies at all? Were there any track side interviews?

I recorded the whole thing on the BBC, and they showed nothing at all. It did take away from the atmosphere somewhat for me (especially the medals ceremonies) but it was really good to see the field events in so much depth. Just a shame it all felt so detached.

I think my stand out moments were Michelle Carter and Sifan Hassan.

Problem is very difficult to actually do since she was never caught?

No, they didn't have anyone out there either.

David Weir and Shelly Woods both successfully defended their titles in last weekend's Lisbon Half Marathon - indeed the latter apparently clocked a world best over the distance (49:49) after a tussle to the line with Jade Jones.

To add to the Americans' success in Portland, Molly Huddle also won the NYC Half Marathon with a 1:07.41 PB - just 7 seconds shy of the AR by Deena Kastor.

The medal ceremonies weren't held in the arena but in a public square nearby. The BBC did show brief clips of them in their highlights shows i.e. mostly the ones involving Brits together with some interviews with the athletes.

From what I saw the medal ceremonies in the square attracted big crowds and personally I think it made the sessions flow better without interruptions for medal ceremonies.

It's all well and good doing that, but we still can't be certain that the athletes setting the new WR's will be clean and above board either, particularly in the women's 100m to 800m events. The sport's in such a state at the moment that anyone doing anything really special is considered a probable doper, until proven otherwise.

You could argue Mike Powell's 8.95m long jump is out of reach by today's standards. Dibaba's 1500m time is pretty outrageous as well. especially compared to the next best current woman. Where would the axe stop?

I fear we're stuck with them and any slash and burn of the books might just encourage more doping in the mad free for all to get the glory and financial rewards on offer for setting new records.

He was the favourite for this? I disagree if that's what you're saying.
I think he's the opposite to Asafa in the sense that he can show up as a pre-event favourite but then through rounds you realise someone else could beat him to it. Saw it in Zurich and Beijing when both times I thought Shubenkov could beat him to it. In Beijing he was a fastest loser for the final, even! While we're on that topic I wonder when the last time was that American MEN (we know the women failed last year in Beijing) failed to place on the podium for short sprint hurdles?

Neither can I. But did anyone watch the world juniors last year and see the Nigerian athlete run his entire second or third leg of the 4x400 relay in like.. Lane 5?

Portland was great. But Birmingham could be greater, what with it being an off year and whatnot.

This winter has been a long and difficult one as a fan but suddenly Doha is round the corner. Portland helped wet my appetite and I'm excited for the season to come.

To clarify, it's not the scrapping of all world records that I'm in favour of (I think that's a pretty bad idea). I'm talking about specific cases where the circumstantial evidence of doping is overwhelming, as with Flo Jo's. I'm not basing that purely on "outrageous" or extremely impressive results either, as I don't believe that is enough to base doping accusations on.

I agree that it wouldn't be easy because she was not officially caught, and it would therefore be unrealistic of me to expect it, but I imagine they would have a much easier time of removing the wind-aided 10.49 (especially since the actual world record holder would remain the same) and that would be a start.

Just because current athletes have the opportunity to, and sometimes do cheat, does not mean nothing should be done about past athletes who have if the case against them is strong enough. I think it's too cynical to suspect that every single one is doing so and, in that case, why shouldn't they actually be given a realistic shot at breaking the WR, and receiving the plaudits that accompany it, if they genuinely are the greatest of all time? Besides, I suspect that athletes who are prepared to cheat would already be doing so for World Championship and Olympic glory..

I did - and as it was a heat, he cost his team qualification for the final. [Footage]

Right I've just gone through the archives and found that the last Olympics that no American men were on the podium for sprint hurdles was 1980 Moscow (surprise surprise - we all know why!). Outdoors at the world championships, they've always had at least one medalist on the podium and indoors the last time there with no American men on the podium was 1985 Paris where their medal haul was 1 gold 2 silvers 2 bronzes compared this years haul of 13 golds 6 silvers and 4 bronzes (76 total medals awarded in 1985 to 78 this year). Interesting stats!

Reg baton dropped in 400 m relay. Im almost sure the us women did it in the only pics Maybe? 2000 or 2008. Could Even have been 96. I think Germany Took the gold with the amazing grit breuer on final leg.

All this taken from memory. Probably not 2008 tbh. Could have been WC as well.

Final entries for Cardiff 2016 are confirmed - there will be 191 competitors (100M / 91W) representing 50 (or 51) member federations.

Gemma Steel has withdrawn from the event due to a chest infection, so her place is taken by Tina Muir.

Entries by country
Entries by event

Incidentally, recent talk suggests the one to watch in the men's race isn't Kamworor, but fellow Kenyan Muchiri (who took silver behind him in the XC WCh last year).

If weather forecasts are to be believed, you can forget about world records being threatened on Saturday. The recent prolonged dry spell we've had is coming to an end at just the wrong time...

All very disturbing but glad to hear Ralph Knibbs is stable at least - I didn't know he worked for UK Athletics now. Guess the full story regarding this will emerge at the trial

It sure will, no chance of British Athletics sweeping this one under the carpet.

Just had a quick look at the weather forecast to see if it has changed any...nope, still sh!te tomorrow. It'll be the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant all over again.

Mo is playing his chances down due to a bout of sickness he's had in his preparations.

LetsRun are clearly excited about the clash between the big trio, as it were.

Before they have time to correct it, see if you can spot the Freudian typo in that article. It's a good'un.
