For anyone who likes the sound of Ronald McIntosh's voice - a look back at the top 10 victories of Beijing 2015.
More recently, Harrison opened her 100mH season with a 12.36 (+1.4m/s) WL/PB, which puts her equal-ninth on the all-time list (yet only the fifth American!) |

Haven't seen one positive comment about it yet! Of bigger consequence in that same press release was this: Quote:
Also new for this season is a change to the number of attempts for throwing events and horizontal jumps. All athletes will have three attempts, then the top four will get three further attempts.
Just a dreadful idea to only allow the top four another 3 attempts. I hope the athletes kick up a stink about it.

Rutherford's response to Carl Lewis's comments on the long jump scene - here's an extract: Quote:
Ultimately, people are going to look back in 30 years and note that I won an Olympic title – hopefully two Olympics titles. I can pretty much guarantee that top of their minds will not be the question, 'Whose performances did Carl Lewis admire?' as a barometer of success.
-----Tom Bosworth is leading the British contingent selected for the World Race Walking Team Championships on 7-8 May. On a related subject, the women's 50km race walk is now eligible for world records - whether or not it's added to the Olympic and WCh programmes in future is another matter. |

The Chris Brown Bahamas Invitational is on tomorrow (from Nassau).
The live stream supposedly starts at 6pm local time (11pm UK time) - http://www.watchathletics.com/schedule/watchlive/2311 (no link available yet but it will appear on that page.) http://www.nsa-bahamas.com/_m1010/Live-Streaming (?) Some top US & Carribean athletes taking part - http://bahamasinvitational.com/CBBI/?page_id=4858 From the meeting's Twitter feed I also saw that some of the fields are pretty stacked - e.g., Queen Harrison, Jasmine Stowers, Sharika Nelvis & Nia Ali also in the 100H. Meeting Schedule Hamburg Marathon on Sunday, live on Eversport at 7.30am UK time. |

Carl Lewis as opened a real can of worms.
His fundamental point about the regression of the long jump is a sound one that opens up a whole new debate, but he was wrong to attack & belittle Rutherford & other modern day jumpers as lazy etc & it just make him sound like a bitter old man. Rutherford was spot on with his response & I am surprised at how calm & measured he was because Greg is a bit of a firebrand. |

More evidence for those of us that think the British athletes are soft and pampered. By the time the European season starts in late May / early June most north American athletes have already got 3-4 decent domestic meets in their legs.
They have a halfway-decent circuit of meets in the US in April & May (and they're trying to build it up during the summer months too). It surely doesn't help our athletes that beyond our 2 big DL meets we have very few other meetings of note. There's the Bedford Games but after that it's a big drop down to British League matches and, for the distance guys/gals, the BMC Grand Prix series. France, on the other hand, has their Pro Athle Tour including 4 good international meets (Nancy/Tomblaine, Montreuil, Sotteville-Les-Rouens & Marseille) in addition to their DL meets. Then below that they have the Elite Meetings circuit including decent international meets like Herouville, Castres & Montgeron. Belgium also has a decent little circuit that quite a few of our athletes compete in. Other countries, e.g., Sweden, have an 'organised' international circuit too. What's stopping us having a similar structure of meets that could provide good, regular international competition for our athletes in a convenient location? Is it still the tax issue for foreign athletes? The unreliable weather? Or, is it just a lack of will by British Athletics? What do you think? |

Usain has surpassed everything that Lewis has ever done but unlike Johnson (who has more class in his little finger than Crybaby Carl has in his entire body) he just cannot accept that a more talented athlete has become the greatest sprinter of all time. So instead likes to slag off less gifted but just as determined athletes. I would love for Greg to have the leap of a lifetime this year in the Olympic final - if everything came together perfectly I do think he could jump 8.55 or perhaps even 8.60+. Let's hope so.

He's certainly started his outdoor season well - 8.30m (+0.4m/s) at yesterday's Beach Invitational.
More Brits worthy of note this weekend: Desiree Henry clocked a 100m PB of 11.06 (+1.5m/s) at the Bryan Clay Invitational Cindy Ofili opened her 100mH season with 12.66 (+2.0m/s) at the MtSac Relays |

Several world leads at the Bahamas meet including a 19.78 by Merritt.
The stream was poor by the way. Poor camerawork with big gaps between the pro events so I gave up after a while. Yohan Blake is back! 9.95 winning in Kingston. Zharnel Hughes 3rd in 10.10 Amer Webb ran a 9.90/19.91 double at the Mt Sac Relays. +2.4 wind for the 100; +1.0 for the 200. Jenna Prandini 10.95 & Hannah Cunliffe 10.99 (+1.7) at the same meet. Jodie Williams 22.89 (+1.9) |

That's a PB for Zharnel but not a British lead performance as Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake ran 10.09. That's potentially put a few cats amongst the pigeons at trials.
Jodie Williams ran 22.89 yesterday after a 22.99 last weekend. And as well as her 100 clocking Desiree Henry ran 22.98 for 200. Interesting from Yohan Blake, that's his quickest time side 2012. Can he get back to his 2011/12 form? And can he do it at 200 as well? |

I totally agree that Lewis is an ar$e but I have to take issue that Bolt has surpassed everything that Lewis ever did. Golds in four consecutive Olympic long jumps plus two golds in 100m and one in 200m, and two relay golds. Bolt ain't there by a long chalk.
The second Olympic 100m title 'won' by Lewis is a bit of a red herring I think, for all we know every single one of them in that race could have been doped up to the eyeballs - but Johnson was a very convenient Canadian scapegoat to blame and deflect attention from elsewhere. |

IAAF press release
IPC press release LOC press release 1.5 million tickets across 30 sessions means they're selling 50,000 tickets per session. Max stadium capacity post-2012 is 60,000 IIRC, so there's probably another 300,000 tickets in reserve (to be released later). Timetables linked in previous post don't include the road events, which are free to watch. |

Just remembered my previous post on a priority window for the 'athletics family', so at least some of those 300,000 tickets will already be sold before the August ticketing window is opened.

So having looked at the 2017 WC schedule I guess 'll be joining every man and his dog trying to get tickets on Saturday and Sunday evening. I'm sure the wealthy and famous types will be unusually lucky in the lottery draw once again. Not that I'm still bitter about not getting my tickets for Super Saturday during 2012, of course. ![]() From an action perspective it's good their scrapping most of the morning sessions, but it's a shame I won't be able to have so many lazy mornings in front of the telly enjoying the BBC punditry...
