Here's a pick of notable indoor performances so far this season:
* Akela Jones (BAR) tops the women's pentathlon world rankings with a NR of 4643 * Reza Ghasemi (IRI) tops the men's 60m world rankings with a NR of 6.52. Can't remember the last time an Iranian produced a WL in a track event * 20 year-old Yulimar Rojas (VEN) tops the women's triple jump world rankings with an AR of 14.69m * In the men's pole vault, outdoor world champion Shawnacy Barber (CAN) recently became the latest member of the 6m club with another NR * Kendra Harrison (USA) tops the women's 60mH world rankings with a PB of 7.83 UKA usually send substantial squads to the WICh, so it's a bit unusual to see fewer notable British performances than usual at this point in the season, Muir and Pozzi aside. The loss of the Glasgow International Match is a factor. |

There's a jumps meet currently underway in Cottbus, with a selection of, um...interesting entertainment on show.

The loss of the Glasgow International Match is a factor. I can see some people giving Portland a miss - realistically because of the time difference they will have to travel out there a week before so not ideal. The only athlete who I have seen confirming that he wants to go is Mr Indoor specialist Kilty. Though depending on the competition at trials his selection may not be a given. Cindy Ofili ran 8.04 at the weekend - I'm sure she is capable of running under 8 seconds but with NCAA commitments I don't know if Portland would be an option for her. And whilst the 200m is no longer a champs event Indoors former Euro Junior champion Nethaneel Mitchell Blake ran 20.57 last week which is a current world lead. That's an overall PB for him and whilst I doubt he'll be close to Gemili or Hughes he could be a contender for the 3rd Olympic spot in the summer. Quite a few people are competing this weekend albeit at regional meets. The aforementioned fans favourite Richard Kilty is running at the Scottish champs along with the likes of Laura Muir. Gemili, Dasaolu & Philip are running at the Welsh Champs and Dina is amongst those running at the London Games |

Around the time I posted those WL marks, Anastasiya Mokhnyuk claimed the pentathlon mark with a PB of 4745 in the Ukranian CE champs.
In the same comp, Alina Shukh (at the age of 16) scored 4354, which is a WYB by 70 points! To put that into context, it has only been 2 years since Morgan Lake scored the previous WYB of 4284. Remaning on the subject of combined events, a certain Olympic and world champion is celebrating her 30th birthday today... |

Dusseldorf (Feb 3) and Karlsruhe (Feb 6) will both be aired on Eurosport next week live.
Brits competing in Dusseldorf: Lee Emmanuel (3000m) Andrew Pozzi (60mH) Will Sharman (60mH) Lawrence Clarke (60mH) Desiree Henry (60m) Serita Solomon (60mH) Lucy Hatton (60mH) Shara Proctor (Long Jump) Can't seem to find an entry list for athletes competing in Karlsruhe but Dina Asher Smith will be competing there. |

There are some cross-country highlights from Antrim last week on Premier Sports this weekend at various times. First actual meet that I can see is Dusseldorf live on Eurosport next Wednesday at 18:00. US Collegiate season is underway, can't see any sign of TV coverage before the overall Championships on 11-12 March. Not even on Vimeo.

Less than 2 years after the Great North Run became the first road event to accommodate 1 million finishers in its lifetime, the organisers of the London Marathon believe their race will reach that milestone this year. I think the running total is about 964k, so it's doable; if they just miss out, they will reach it in WCh year.

Annoying. I used the word that rhymes with deck rather than the one that rhymes with duck, just so I would avoid the software censor. There should be a list somewhere....

Yeah, you're right. I was going to post about the proposed lifetime ban for cheats on representing GB by UK athletics, but **** it, let's get back to the running, jumping and throwing. This is Olympic year after all.
I normally ignore the indoor season, but it'll be good if some early-season heroes or top performances can emerge to take the focus away from all that other stuff. Looking forward to that.As you say. The Olympics this year too. Anyone booked time off work to watch them yet? Or is anybody lucky enough to actually be going to Rio to watch the games? Also, not forgetting the European Championships in Amsterdam. I fear the big names will give it a miss like they did in 2012 due to the Olympics. We'll have to wait and see. Only seems like a few months ago we were all watching Zurich. ![]() A busy year ahead.

The organisers of the Cardiff Half Marathon are seeking to increase the international profile of their race, seeing as it has become an IAAF Bronze Label road race this year. Not a surprise given the city is hosting the WHMCh.

I love the indoor season. I am assuming the evening session at the World Indoors in Portland will start about 1am onwards over here. I know it's not ideal for a lot, but as a night owl that's ideal for me.

I really enjoyed them in 2012 because I had no real idea who would do what even though the standard was low. The field events had mostly top class athletes in though. Nice little tune-up competition for them. |

That's only between late-October and mid-February. During the Olympics, the difference will be four hours.
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/tim...azil/brt/brst/ (and your link) the difference will be three hours not four....? The football is being played in different cities, so the time zones for that will be all over the place... Edit: Ok, I'm really not sure why, but this link: http://www.worldtimezone.com/time/ol...r=21&forma=24h Confirms the 4hr time difference. Lucky I found out early. Off to check the Rio timetable again. Not too fussed about missing out on anything other than the Athletics really, but can see my output dropping seriously over the two weeks .

Results for the international CE meet in Reims are available on the FFA results website. The heptathlon and pentathlon both finish tomorrow.
Most notable British performance today was over 400m - Seren Bundy-Davies produced a 51.60 WL/PB in Vienna (same place she started the previous season); the world 60m champion clocked a 6.65 SB in the Scottish Championships. Sticking with the distance, Ewa Swoboda (POL) ran a 7.13 WL/NR and is now just 4 hundredths outside the WJR. That's right, she's still a junior! |

Olympic pole vault champion Jennifer Suhr (USA) has cleared 5.03m in Brockport - which means she has added a centimetre to her indoor WR!

As we're only two hours ahead of Rio, I thought I would wing it TBH. Should be able to watch most of the major athletics finals live. Bit annoyed at the few non-walk finals that are on in the morning. From memory women's 10, 3000steeple (not sure which gender) and long jump are all in the morning. Maybe one of the marathons too?

The field events had mostly top class athletes in though. Nice little tune-up competition for them. I knew I wouldn't be the only one booking days off.

Kayoko Fukushi (JPN) won the Osaka Women's Marathon in a PB of 2:22:17. The 2013 WCh bronze medallist has also beaten the Japanese federation's standard for Olympic selection (2:22:30!), so she'll be in Rio unless two of her compatriots run even quicker - which is highly unlikely.
