I wouldn't be surprised if Gavitar put a sneaky bet on Jessica Andrews to win the women's race at tonight's Olympic 10,000m trials in Highgate* - not only that, she also took the scalp of Linet Masai and broke 32 minutes! Together with Beth Potter (runner-up in trials), she has earned automatic Olympic selection.

Ross Millington and Dewi Griffiths were top-2 in the men's trials, but neither made the standard.

[* "Who?" was my initial reaction to that happening - here's her Po10 profile]

Watched 10K from Highgate on Vinco Looks a fun event and great atmosphere.

Men's race was a good race but ran outside the Olympic qualifying. Ross Millington won in a new PB, Dewi Griffith's 2nd Brit over the line. They both went for it and were a little outside 14 mins at halfway so not too far off the required pace. They can still get selected if they run the standard by 11th July but will be tough for them to run circa 30 secs quicker. The only Brit in the race who has the standard was Andy Vernon. He finished 3rd Brit so missed opportunity to gain auto selection and if truth be told he was never in the race.

Women's race as expected much more exciting. Shock winner in Jess Andrews who knocked 90 secs off her PB to hit the standard and ran past 2009 world champion Linet Masai to win. Beth Potter was 2nd Brit and guaranteed her selection. Kate Avery 3rd Brit so will need a discretionary pick. Jo Pavey was up there with the leaders in first half but faded badly in 2nd half. Apparently she has been suffering from a chest infection. She will now have to decide whether to try for 10K elsewhere to try & get the time & demonstrate good form or aim for 5K instead

I think if Greg gets it right in ideal conditions the British record will go this year - possibly by a large margin and approaching 8.60.

Perhaps that will shut Lewis (and his enormous gob) up.

Triple Olympic champions Kenenisa Bekele and Tirunesh Dibaba are the headline names in today's Great Manchester Run. Bekele is looking to rebound from the disappointment of not being selected for the Olympic marathon, whilst Dibaba is hoping to earn 10,000m selection (not in this race) and win a third consecutive Olympic title in that event.

This race is usually a popular one for the better-known Brits - not this time, given its clash with Highgate. Gemma Steel will hope to regain the form she enjoyed in 2014.

Next year's GMR will also include a half-marathon.

Almost forgot - Africa's first-ever Diamond League meet gets underway at 1600 in Rabat. How long 'til its first-ever WCh?

There's also some action at the World Challenge meet in Hengelo and the Loughborough International.

In the former, Asha Philip won race 2 of the women's 100m in 11.27 (+0.7m/s) and Eilish McColgan was sixth in the women's 5,000m with a 15:16.51 clocking.

Off we go in Rabat.

Ah, good to see Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor back to frighten the World's athletics commentators again.

The Brits and two Dutch squads all mucked up their baton changes and failed to finish in the womens 4x100 in Hengelo.

The stadium in Rabat apparently handles up to 40,000, so the event has attracted a good crowd. Pretty well located for those who travel to European events and want to stretch their boundaries a bit.

MMB is back racing - a sight feared by mascots everywhere.

Anyika Onuora won the Hengelo women's 400m in 52.20 - 2 wins for GB in a World Challenge meet isn't that frequent AFAIK. Was almost 3 after Lawrence Clarke clocked 13.50 (+0.9m/s) for second in the men's 110mH, 0.04 behind Gregor Traber (GER).

-----

Back in Rabat, Conseslus Kipruto won the men's 3,000mSC in a 8:02.77 WL/MR - he threw away a sub-8 by celebrating 100m from the line.

Just realised the stadium is big enough for a WCh if the Moroccans want to host them at some point in the future.

The leader waving to the crowd with 100m+ to go in the steeplechase. From indifference, I suddenly feel an overwhelming desire to see him crash and burn.

Hengelo sounds like an interesting meeting. Shame about our relay girls. They don't need to be picking up that shoddy changeover habit.

A modest 14.51m (-0.4m/s) for Caterine Ibargüen in the women's triple jump is still enough to win - her winning streak now stands at 33 (!)...would be great if that extends all the way to Olympic glory this year.

Modest 2.31m for Bondarenko in the men's high jump - not a day for the big heights (winds probably not helping)...and just as I type that, Nicole Büchler vaults a 4.75m MR!

It's always one of the best early season meets, yet is never ever on the TV.

This Moroccan crowd are a bit quiet eh? Come on lads, it's not the opera, you can make some noise if you want!

Back in Hengelo, Dejen Gebremeskel (ETH) won the men's 5,000m in 13:00.99; in the same race, Andrew Butchart clocked a 13:13.30 PB for ninth (I think that's a second Olympic standard for him).

Men's 3,000m - Abdelaati Iguider (MAR) sends the home crowd into a frenzy! 7:36.85 WL

That race might have ensured Rabat's status as a DL host for the next few years.

Strong field in the women's 800m - Semenya FTW again, surely...through the presence of Niyonsaba is also notable.

1:56.64 WL! Here we go again...

Hengelo - Schippers 22.02, in cool wet conditions

Jodie Williams in second from lane eight a loooong way behind.

Hmm, Semenya not very well supported by the Moroccan crowd, seems that First World PC obsessions are not shared globally. Good early season run for Lynsey Sharp, but I'm afraid that Semenya's presence will mean that the minor Olympic medals will be won in faster times than any Brit can do.
Edward_Sloley

Sharp clocked 1:59.51 for fifth in that 800m.

1:56... #Rekt

Lynsey looked to finish pretty well, and at least she didn't blow up in the last 100m. Getting in to the Olympic Final might be the best she can hope for.

Windspeed -0.3m/s. Schippers was the only one below 23...

Great men's long jump comp in Rabat - Rushwal Samaai won with an 8.38m (+0.8m/s) MR; Fabrice Lapierre 8.36m (+5.2m/s) and 8.31m (-0.4m/s)

Last track event in Rabat is the women's 5,000m. Will Almaz Ayana break the WR?
