Just seen the times. That looked almost embarrassing.

Probably Jodie's best finish in a race for some time, but I'd like to see her making progress on her PB.

She came through relatively quickly at the end, she may have run faster if she wasn't running 'blind' in the outside lane. Last year I think she got lane 1, has she upset one of the organisers there?

Super busy day to round off a super busy weekend of action

Great Manchester Run = Comfortable wins for Dibaba & Bekele. Wonder if the latter will try to qualify on the track for Rio after missing Marathon selection.

Loughborough = Great run from Pozzi. Really hope he stays injury free for the next 3 Months. SB of 10.07 for CJ in the 100 winning ahead of Dasaolu. Also anchored GB team to victory in relay with Ojie anchoring the B team. Both teams avoided mishaps but times were unspectacular & don't know who ran other legs. Jess threw 41.67 in the Jav, a solid if unspectacular start to the season.

Hengelo = Great run in poor conditions from Dafne. Hopefully Jodie will get quicker as the season progresses, she said on twitter she ran a poor bend. Asha Philip won the 100 in 11.27. I'll let the women off their relay mishap as it's been quite some time since they had one. Great to see Andy Butchart get a 2nd Olympic qualifier & a Scottish record to boot. Eilidh McColgan also got a 2nd Olympic qualifier. The women's 5K race at trials should be competitive with her, Steph Twell & Laura Whittle all having the required qualifying times & potentially a healthy Jo Pavey. Lawrence Clarke also ran a SB of 13.50

Rabat DL = Ayana looks in great form and wants tos run both the 5 & 10K in Rio. Tim Hutchings is a misogynistic cretin. The debate re: Caster Semanya is an important one but throwing around phrases such as "normal woman" doesn't contribute anything.

Here is the race:

Barring any injuries, she will at least medal on the 200m in Rio. Can't see many women going below 22 seconds there (except for Thompson and Felix).

Also keeping in mind the rainy track and the fact she was running in Manchester on Friday.

The men's 400m continues to amaze - in his debut season at the distance, Baboloki Thebe of Botswana produced a 44.21A AJR in Gaborone! Only Steve Lewis of the USA has run faster as an U20 (43.87 to win the Olympic title (!!) in 1988).

To put it in perspective, the British record proper is 44.37...that said, the altitude assistance in Gaborone is worth about half a second. If he can back that up, he could emulate Amos as a Motswana world U20 champion this year.

Said it before & I'll say it again, records set at altitude shouldn't stand/count. They're as much benefit if not more so than wins assisted performances. It doesn't make any sense.

When she runs like that it starts to look again like the ancient world record is just a bit of concentration away-not a barrier elusive for 33 years!

She is just doing what she does, but whatever she achieves, its never going to be an easy path.

I read that Caster is likely to be awarded the 2012 gold retrospectively. If she wins Rio then that will make her an all time Olympic great. Odd really because her performances over the years have been so varied thanks to hormone treatment and possibly deliberate underperforming. That world record is hers if she wants it but I think she'll ignore it so she can argue that you can't not call her a woman because another woman has run faster...although a chemistry set probably helped Kratch run that time.

Yeah, I recall Carl Lewis refused torn or jump at altitude even though Bob Beamon got so much praise for his altitude jump that Lewis never beat with a legit wind. Although people say Lewis jumped 9m plus once and got a dodgy red flag for an unconvincing plasticine infringement.

Names are starting to leak regarding the Beijing Olympics retests. And the first name is Anna Chicherova who won High Jump bronze in Beijing & of course gold in London. And she was one of the few Russians who a lot of people thought was clean.

Must admit I thought Carmelita Jeter had hung up her spikes, so I was surprised to see her running in Morocco.

Shall be interesting to see what happens at the US trials.

Also hearing on Twitter that Mariya Abakumova is another athlete if true could mean a medal for Goldie Sayers?

Interesting article http://www.insidethegames.biz/index....doping-samples

Yep Goldie could be upgraded to bronze. Alekseyev who was anchor of the Russian men's 4x4 team also named which would mean another upgrade to bronze for the GB team

If they don't ban the Russian athletics team at least it is a joke - the Bulgarian weightlifting team has already been banned for far less.

Suggests that it really was a state sponsored doping programme not just a few coaches talking their athletes into taking PEDs.

I want to know where the Russians are going to find all these "honest and clean" athletes they feel should be allowed to compete in Rio?

I watched the US trials for the first last year and must remember to catch this time around as well. There are some amazing line ups in the sprint races. Watching some of favourites get it all wrong on the day just adds to the entertainment.

I always liked Carmelita and remember being taken aback when watching her run one of those 10.6 something times (back in 2009 ). She looks a shadow of her former self these days.

I too watched their trials for the first time last year as well. It was a wonderful meeting with some really good races. Their qualification process is brutal, so as you say watching some of the favourites get it all wrong adds to the excitement.

I can't remember who showed it last year (think it was Eurosport over 2 nights or something) but I do hope it is aired this year too.

Sadly on current form I can't see Jeter making Rio though. Stranger things have happened, but I don't think it will this time.

Sadly, for the first time in some years I won't be watching Götzis closely this weekend.

Quite a strong field, but no real Dutch interest this year (Schippers is now a sprinter, Visser is injured and Broersen is scared to get injured).

Though it will be interesting to see if KJT and BTE can give themselves a psychological advantage (over the other) going into Rio.

And no Mr. Fox either in the decathlon, not risking his achilles.

What level would you draw the line at?

I'd probably draw the line at 900 or 950m. Although records set at altitude are accepted by the IAAF, anything over 1000m is always marked with A in the books. There is a track at Chaux de fonds in Switzerland which is just below 1000m or 992m to be precise. Quite a few people have set times there that they haven't replicated elsewhere. British Athletics don't count for qualifying purposes any performances set at 950m or above.

Been away for a few days and have just caught up on all the streamed/televised athletics of last week.

Together with Beth Potter (runner-up in trials), she has earned automatic Olympic selection.

Ross Millington and Dewi Griffiths were top-2 in the men's trials, but neither made the standard.

[* "Who?" was my initial reaction to that happening - here's her Po10 profile]”

Ha ha. No, unfortunately not. That women's race was the highlight of the week's athletics for me though. I did vaguely know of Jess Andrews from her Aldershot days but, like everyone else, I was gobsmacked by her performance. With Beth Potter pushing the pace behind Masai and looking strong it seemed like Andrews was just hanging on and starting to flail a bit. But then with a mile to go she really took the bull by the horns and just flew. A terrific race.

I was sad to see the other Jess (Coulson) struggling around. Her revitalised career was going so well for her up until Mile 20 of the Frankfurt Marathon and then she tore her plantar fascia. From what I gather she's only been back in proper training for a couple of months so it was a lot to ask for her to be competitive at Highgate (and she would have been a long shot anyway for the 10,000 team, even in tip-top shape). She has been selected though for the British team for the European Cup 10,000 in Turkey on June 6th.

No mention by anyone of Rob Mullett's 8 second PB and Olympic qualifier in the steeplechase at the Hoka One One meet in LA last Friday? The fastest time by a Brit for 22 years!
Ok, it was 'only' 8:22.42 but he was pretty competitive in a race won by Jager in 8:15 that also included a couple of other very good Americans and two very good Canadians. The race video is here.
Also PBs for Charlie Grice (1:46.95) and 20yo Robbie Fitzgibbon (3:41) in the same meeting.

Live streaming of Gotzis at http://www.freetvstream.in/de/tv/orfsportplus.php -
Saturday 9.55am - 5.30pm UK time; Sunday 8.55am - 5.30pm.

BMC Grand Prix (Watford) live streaming on Vincosport on Saturday at 5pm.
'A' race times - 6.28 W 3000SC; 6.59 W 800; 7.07 M 800; 7.45 M 3000SC; 8.10 W 1500; 8.19 M 1500; 9.23 M 5000; 9.40 W 5000.
Startlists at http://www.britishmilersclub.com/bmc...016/WAT_SL.htm

There's also the IFAM Oordegem meet tomorrow with quite a few Brits taking part and the Anhalt Dessau meet in Germany tonight, but I can't find streaming for either of them. Laura Muir was originally slated for the 800m in Dessau but seems to have withdrawn. She's only just finished her Uni exams (finals?) which apparently explains her late start to the season, so I expect we'll see her debut at the Birmingham DL.
