It's worth noting her previous record was set in 2013, but the world title went to Isinbayeva that year. Incidentally, it hasn't even been 24 hours since that 5.03 and another pole vault record has been set - this time, it's Wilma Murto (FIN) who smashed her PB by half a foot to vault an indoor WJR of 4.71m!*
![]() That's also an 11cm improvement on the NR...it's all kicking off now. Oh, and she will remain a junior through 2017 as well. [* Her series includes an ancillary 4.65m, which is also better than the preceding record] |

I love the indoor season. I am assuming the evening session at the World Indoors in Portland will start about 1am onwards over here. I know it's not ideal for a lot, but as a night owl that's ideal for me.
Looking forward to that.As you say. The Olympics this year too. Anyone booked time off work to watch them yet? Or is anybody lucky enough to actually be going to Rio to watch the games? Also, not forgetting the European Championships in Amsterdam. I fear the big names will give it a miss like they did in 2012 due to the Olympics. We'll have to wait and see. Only seems like a few months ago we were all watching Zurich. ![]() A busy year ahead. ![]() The timetable in the link below should include 'my times' as well linked to your computer settings. The Thursday night session starts after 3 AM one for the die hards as it's the Pole Vault finals only although given the performances so far this evening they should be exciting. The Friday & Saturday final sessions start shortly after 1 but the Sunday session starts at 8:40 and finishes just before 11 so ideal for those working on Monday http://www.iaaf.org/competitions/iaa...-championships Re: The Europeans British Athletics have already sai that any track athletes selected for the Olympics will not compete there so it will just be those chasing a qualifying time and some second string athletes. There will be full strength sprint relay squads and I suspect with Field Events the athletes will have a choice as to whether they wish to compete. I wonder what Schippers will do. There will be pressure on her to compete in front of a home crowd but even so the Olympic preparation should still take priority. |

Round up of all the weekend action/results from a British perspective below. Dina ran 7.20 yesterday and Sean Safo-Antwi set a new PB of 6.57 in the 60 which currently leads the British rankings.
http://www.britishathletics.org.uk/m...kend-round-up/ Went to the Welsh champs yesterday - I was not going to pass up the opportunity to see the lovely Mr Gemili running on my doorstep. Have to say whilst there were a few big names there which attracted interest it was essentially more of a Grassroots event and with all the negative stories around the sport it was great to attend an event like this as an antidote to all that. I really thought James was going to win the 60m there even after the heats but Adam came through which shows what a great competitor he is. He looked great and so good to see him back running again and I'm sure there is more to come from Dasaolu. Asha Philip looked great too running 7.21 and young Welsh prospect Hannah Brier set a new Welsh junior record of 7.37 in the heats. I can see Asha giving Dina a run for her money over 60m this year. Afterwards Adam said that he probably wouldn't do the World Indoors as it's too late but will have some more races. James is also planning some more races including the British champs and will decide whether to go depending on how these races go and Asha sounded quite keen to go to Portland. Other highlights included David King setting a PB in defeating David Omoregie in the hurdles and Chris Baker was agonisingly close to getting the Olympic qualifying mark of 2.29 but looks like he will get it sooner rather than later. |

So Michael Rimmer and Richard Kilty making big circles on their calendars, then.
I can imagine the bleating of Kilty now if he fails to qualify. |

I've booked the second week of the Games off to watch all the athletics. But I' probably stay up late in the first week to watch stuff. And there will be some decent stuff on in Primetime too.

There will be pressure on her to compete in front of a home crowd but even so the Olympic preparation should still take priority. I wonder what would happen if a selected athlete (for Rio) wanted to run both meetings? I suppose if participating in Amsterdam were to aid their Olympic preparations allowances would be made. Schippers has a bit of a dilemma, but as you say Rio should take precedence. Thanks for the link re, Portland timetable. Makes following events much easier. Thank you.

I think there is an exceptional circumstances clause in the selection document if someone really wants to do. both

It's different for sprinters, they can compete twice a week if they want. Could easily do one event and a relay leg.

Jessica Taylor was the best of Brits in Reims as she scored 4214 in the pentathlon, just 35 below her PB. Liam Ramsay was on for a heptathlon score not far off the NR until he no-heighted in the pole vault.

The PSD meeting from Dusseldorf is on Eurosport tonight from 6pm to 8pm so make sure to check it out! A fair few brits competing too.
Something else that has been on my mind recently though is how the sport needs to get more young people involved and engaged with athletics. I've written it about it here: https://athleticsappetizer.wordpress...-in-the-sport/ If you have a spare minute, then check it out. Enjoy!

Not sure what the Dutch Olympic selection policy is but maybe the Federation would agree with Schippers to maybe do Amsterdam but let her skip the National champs. They are hardly not going to select her for Rio whatever |

All very early seasonish in Dusseldorf, but good wins for Kim ZimmerFrame Collins and Ortega in the hurdles. Young Polish sprint girl Swoboda looks decent, but she has left herself nowhere to go with her tattoos. Brits mostly ordinary. Next round on Saturday.

The age gap between yesterday's 60m winners is ridiculous - when Collins made his Olympic debut in Atlanta, Swoboda hadn't even been conceived.
Since Ortega (now a Spanish citizen) defected from Cuba in August 2013, he will have to wait for 3 years until he can represent Spain in international championships. I'm not sure whether that period ends before or after the Olympic athletics programme begins; that said, his 7.49 WL (despite not being a PB) is also a NR. During by this summary, Ivana Spanovic (SRB; 6.79m WL in the long jump) was expecting to jump close to 7m already... |

Judging by this summary
Whoops, don't know how on earth I made that mistake...Anyway, another result worthy of note was Augustine Choge (KEN) clocking a 7:39.23 WL in the men's 3,000m to beat countryman Caleb Ndiku, who of course is also the reigning world champion. Could this be the year he finally delivers on the promise of his junior career? Those with particular interest in Melbourne 2006 may remember that Choge (supposedly still a junior at the time) ran a superb 12:56.41 GR to win the Commonwealth 5,000m title; in that same race, Mo was ninth in what I think was his international championship debut. Choge had won a trio of global age-group titles before 2006; since then, the only global championship medal he has won is a silver in the 2012 WICh 3,000m final. |

Not really an Indoor fan, but I skipped through the Dusseldorf meeting earlier because I needed my fix... Serita Solomon looked handy, Desiree Henry still looks untidy and now that I'm 40 years old, I want whatever Kim Collins is on! ![]() Quote:

![]() What do Swoboda's tattoos say? "Gold medal Rio" or something? |

No, it's just that there are already a lot of them. She has thighs like Chris Hoy.
![]() And so what if she has cyclists thighs. She's a sprinter, so she needs to.... get on her bike. Yes, I know

Robbie Grabarz jumped 2.33m last night at a meet, which is a World Indoor Qualifier (he already has two 2.29m jumps for the Olympic Standard)
Can't see him losing the trials so he will most likely be at the World Indoors Final now which is great! |

It remains to be seen whether or not Greg Rutherford competes in the WICh, but he now leads the world rankings with a 8.26m NR - needless to say, that's his best ever opener. Quote:
