Just noticed Greg's NR was set at altitude in Albuquerque, but it's a good opener nonetheless.

With Cardiff 2016 now less than 50 days away, highlights of the inaugural championships (which included the 1992 Great North Run) have been uploaded. The home crowd had reason to celebrate as Liz McColgan drew a line under her Olympic disappointment to win the women's title, just as Paula Radcliffe went on to do 8 years later.

If you listen carefully, you can hear Brendan Foster and David Coleman in the background, commentating for the BBC (I don't know who the world feed (?) commentator is).

Well that was a shocker to hear about those Chinese Distance runners fro the 90s....said no one ever.

Will be interesting to see what happens if the letter is verified. The usual limit in terms of redistribution of medals is 10 years and Sonia O'Sullivan (who would be a main beneficiary if this were to happen) has said she's not bothered about getting medals but just wants the truth acknowledged. I think there will be pressure in the current climate to rescinding the World records though. But that begs the question shouldn't they do likewise for Koch as there is documentary evidence relating to her doping from the Stasi files.

Worth noting that Aries Merritt ran his first race last night just 5 Months after his Kidney Transplant clocking a time of 7.77. You would have to have a heart of stone not to want him to win another Olympic medal in Rio

I don't know what would happen if the Chinese Athletics Federation or whatever officially requested that the records be rescinded, but I think that is what it would take, because the proof of East German doping was absolutely as strong as you will ever get.

Live results from Karlsruhe now available.

In the W60mH heats, Harrison has improved her WL/PB to 7.82. Nia Ali (USA), Tiffany Porter and Lucy Hatton clocked SB of 7.96 / 7.98 / 8.01 respectively.

Mike Rodgers (USA) ran a 6.52 WL in the M60m heats. In the W60m heats, 7.07 WL (and opener) by Dafne Schippers!

Rosangela Santos (BRA) cranked out a 7.21 AR in that same heat.

TV coverage has started in time for Dina's heat.

7.14 SB for her behind Marie Josée Ta Lou (CIV), who ran a 7.12 PB. 19 year-old Daryll Neita equalled her PB of 7.29.

Apparently Jazmin Saywers has jumped a PB of 6.62m in Mondeville today.

Harrison wins the W60mH final in 7.86. Porter improves her SB to 7.94 and Hatton ran 8.01 again.

More results from across the pond - Lolo Jones (USA) clocked a 7.95 SB in Albuquerque. Don't know if it was in the same race, but Cindy Ofili improved her PB to 7.97.

Rodgers hands Collins his first 60m defeat since before 2015 as he equals his 6.52 WL.

Axumawit Embaye (ETH) runs a 4:08.22 WL in the W1500m. Runner-up Konstanze Klosterhalfen (GER, the European junior XC champion) gives the crowd cause for celebration with a 4:08.38 AJR.

Apparently 4:08.66 for Ciara Mageean (IRL) in third place is a NR.

Pretty high-quality W60m final as Schippers uses her mighty top-end speed to win in 7.08. Behind her, Barbara Pierre (USA) and Dina clock SB of 7.09 and 7.11 respectively; Santos improved to 7.19, which is an =AR (turns out 7.21 in the heats was just a PB).

In Mondeville, Sean Safo-Antwi has improved his 60m PB to 6.55.

Renaud Lavillenie has produced last-gasp clearances at 5.70m, 5.84m and 5.91m to break the men's pole vault MR - what a competition!

Choge wins the M3,000m ahead of a strong field in 7:43.22 - right now, Ndiku (fourth place today) has it all to do if he wants to retain his world title.

-----

No 6m clearance for Lavillenie yet this season, but he's definitely back in the groove.

Great to see Renaud back in form. Dafne looked in great nick too. Dina progressing nicely, marginally quicker than in the same race last year.

Good times from Tiff Porter and over in America her sister Cindy runs 7.98.

The other meets in the IAAF Indoor Tour are going to be

14 Feb - Boston
17 Feb - Stockholm
20 Feb - Glasgow

The BBC has Glasgow, don't see anything for the other two.

It's not often that 3 juniors clear 1.90m+ in the women's high jump in a single weekend.

Once again, a Japanese road race produces some crazy depth as 41 men ran the Marugame Half Marathon in 63 minutes or less (!) - only 3 editions of the WHMCh have demonstrated great depth than that. Provided the weather isn't terrible, Cardiff 2016 (for which the MHM served as a trial race for the Japanese men) should become the fourth to do so.

With Nestle removing their sponsorship from the IAAF with immediate effect , I wonder whether it will lead to other major sponsors following suit

Food and drink giant Nestle has ended its sponsorship of the IAAF, as it fears the doping scandal engulfing the world athletics governing body could damage its reputation.
The Swiss company said it had taken the decision with "immediate effect".
However, IAAF president Lord Coe said he was "angered" by the decision and would "not accept" it.

Not sure what Coe/IAAF could do other than take legal action which may lead to a costly/damaging court case

I can see his point. He may not be able to veto the decision but that doesn't mean he has to accept it. His point is this sponsorship was for kids and withdrawing it will harm those kids it was set to benefit.

"Clearly it wasn't a decision made about reputation because, since 2001, they've been the global partner to the Tour de France, and renewed at a moment when cycling was in its worst position around doping."

Ouch.

Wonder if this has anything to do with the timing of Nestle's decision

Kenya has until the end of Thursday to prove to the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) it is tackling cheating in athletics, the BBC has learned.

It comes after a spate of positive drugs tests among the country's athletes and fresh allegations of corruption.

It is thought unlikely Kenya will be able to provide the assurances Wada is seeking and the country could be placed on a 'watch-list' of nations at risk of being in breach of the agency's code.

I suspect the Russians will be keeping an eye on developments and probably expecting some sort of punishment for Kenya if they don't comply with the demands set out..

Would leave a rather big hole in the middle/long distance events competitor wise!

Seb Coe not happy with Nestle because they still sponsored the Tour De France during the really dark years of cheating in cycling but maybe now its just seen as even worse PR wise to be involved in a tainted sport?

Not to mention the road events...speaking of which, there are a couple of notable half marathons happening this weekend; the first one (which happened earlier today) is the Ras Al Khaimah Half Marathon (click here for top ten results).

The women's race was won by Cynthia Limo with a 1:06:04 PB, three seconds ahead of world champion (and fellow Kenyan) Gladys Cherono; they are now the third and fourth fastest competitors in history. No fewer than six women broke 1:07 in the same race (!), which is unprecedented.

The men's race was won by Birhanu Legese (ETH) with a 1:00:40 SB, just ahead of New York Marathon champion Stanley Biwott (KEN). It's the slowest winning time since the race was established in 2007, but the top six finished just six seconds apart; curiously, nobody has broken the hour so far this season.

-----

The second half marathon is the Barcelona Half Marathon, which is notable not for its depth (it has nothing like the field RAK boasts), but for the fact that Florence Kiplagat has produced WR in the previous two editions. She's aiming for a hat-trick (i.e. below 1:05:09) on Sunday.

-----

It's also worth adding the women's times for positions 2 to 10 inclusive in RAK today are world bests; furthermore, all the previous WB for those positions were set in RAK three years ago.

Coe has called nestle hypocrites, as they are sponsoring the tour de france.

I can only assume Coe means that as nestle sponsor a sport in cycling that is rife with doping allegations, why can they not continue to sponsor athletics - which is rife with corruption?

The man is deluded.

Athletics will continue to have a reputation in the gutter as long as Coe is in charge.

He IS the blatter of athletics.
