Early reports suggest Russian athletes are to remain suspended.
There's a press conference being streamed live on YouTube to watch, if you are stuck on a desert island and have no access to any other form of entertainment than watching ants build their nest (sounds good!) or the IAAF YouTube Channel. With an exciting Boltdown clock!

Well let's hope this is true. The stories of Russia's shenanigans during this ban have been bordering on absurd.

Though I do wonder how long it will be until Vladimir's mate at the IOC invites them in regardless.

Am I to understand that Coe is in the frame for something?

The usual thing. Yet another instance of him treating his job as a luxurious sinecure, rather than as an important position with difficult but necessary duties to be fulfilled.

Interesting. So Russia banned still but a crack in the door for those that can prove they are outside the Russian system I.e. live & train and drug tested outside of Russia. Also these individuals would not compete under the Russian flag but as independent athletes. In theory very few would fit this & any that go this route would incur the wrath of Putin by not competing under the Russian flag. Yulia Stepanov already a pariah due to her whistleblowing would be one who may go this route.

Ball is now in IOC court - will see if they overrule the IAAF.

Inevitably our favourite homophobic Pole Vaulter is making noise. She doesn't even have the qualifying height yet. Perhaps she considers this a trivial detail which doesn't apply to her

Perhaps he went to the Sepp Blatter school of (mal)administration?

Can't say I like the guy he always struck me as devious not because of any knowledge I have just a gut feeling. Probably wrong about that.

I think that Russian athletes competing as independents would be very difficult. What would they have to do to prove they were clean, who would organise transport, living quarters and numbers and what would happen if 4 athletes in an event were eligible but only 3 were allowed? I suspect they've made this offer to avoid a legal challenge rather than thinking it would actually work but it will be interesting to see if anyone does apply to comoete in this way. They might not be in the Russian Ferderation's good books if they did.

No word yet if this courtesy will also be extended to Bulgarian weightlifters, who are also under an Olympic ban at the moment, for the same reason.

I wouldn't go so far as that. He's just a schmoozer who is not going to let any difficult question of carrying out necessary but unpleasant duties disturb his stately progress from first-class lounge to five-star hotel suite, via the chauffeur-driven limousine.

Darya Klishina as many has said on Twitter competes in the States can't think of many more.

Maybe Shubenkov but he still trains in Russia.

Personally I think the IOC will force a compromise on the IAAF.

There is already going to be a refugees 'team' competing under the IOC flag, so the tiny number of Russians who'd qualify under the criteria set and want to compete would I suppose be accommodated in a similar manner to those.

According to the IAAF Taskforce report, it emerges that Isinbayeva & head coach of the national team, Borzakovskiy, haven't even read the Independent Commission's report - https://twitter.com/JensWeinreich/st...53429752217601

Putin described Russia's Rio Olympics ban is 'unjust and unfair' but that just isn't the case. The real unfairness is against the clean athletes who avoid the doping and then lose out on places and medals.

Coe deserves to be congratulated for taking a stand on this issue and I sincerely hope that his decision is not overruled.

It wasn't Coe's decision; it was a Council vote.

...but you know what I mean though and at least he's making a high profile public stand on the issue - when was that last done over doping?

Some quick times from the 100m races at the U20/U23 champs. In the heats of the Junior 100m Imani Lansiquot ran 11.25 an Olympic qualifier, she went on the win the final sealing her place on the World Juniors team where she has a chance of a medal. Reichmal Miller won the Junior men's title.

In the U23 heats Sophie Papps also set an Olympic qualifier of 11.31 She didn't run in the final but hopefully this was a case of looking ahead to the trials as she has had quite a lot of injuries since running for England at the 2014 Commonwealth Games

Selected British results from yesterday:

A 1 metre PB for Chris Bennett in the Hammer in Budapest, 76.45.

In Szczecin ...

Sophie Hitchon threw a SB of 71.86, 2nd behind Wlodarczyk.

Michael Rimmer, 3rd in 1:46.13 (SB), half a second down on winner Lewandowski but beating Kszczot.

Sarah McDonald, a very creditable 5th in a decent 1500, her first big race abroad. With a 100 to go she was 2nd, just on eventual winner Cichocka's shoulder, but came 5th in 4:08.95, just 0.26s behind 2nd-placer Ennaoui and 1.28s behind Cichocka.

Gemili is running the 100 & 200 in Brussels today.

Very good run by Gemili in Brussels, 20.37 for the win ahead of Ndure 20.43. Wind -0.3. Seems he wasn't entered for the 100 after all (the guy on Twitter was wrong.)

They're only showing 2 hours though, they've made it pretty obvious they've done that to show the 100m semis & final with the odd middle/long distance event thrown in too. We'll mis a fair bit before it goes live and quite a few heats/semis after it goes off air too sadly.

At least all of Sunday's coverage is showing everything from start to finish though.
