Seems like a massive turnaround by British Athletics. It was only a few weeks ago where basically anyone selected for Rio wouldn't be going to the Europeans, to now what is close to a full team.
Amusing on Twitter today with the Team GB kit fit out, photos and videos from all the Adidas sponsored athletes and just a passing mention from a few of the none Adidas ones.

Seb Rodger not being selected is bizarre. He can feel seriously aggrieved. And Kilty is extremely fortunate to be going individually, wasted opportunity to blood a talented youngster like Ojie Edoburun.
Still it wouldn't be a British athletics selection without a controversy or 2. Most of those who skipped trials are named. No Ashleigh Nelson though, suspect that her injury is not looking too clever. |

It's an inside joke.
It took off (sorry) when Greg got the single spot available in Moscow 2013 ahead of Chris, then failed to qualify for that final.

By contrast I note PSD is named in the 4x400 squad. Not heard a peep from her on social media so no idea how bad her injury was/is.

Seems it was a quad injuy for PSD, so not directly related to her knee, she's ruled out of the Euros though.

US Youth Championships are available on free live streaming all this week. They're on East Coast time.

The Europeans are always fun. A shame it clashes with the business end of Wimbledon - but I will cope.

Just a reminder, the Paavo Nurmi Memorial Games from Turku at on tonight, 17:00. Looking at the startlists, it's pretty Division III stuff mostly, in line with the poor state of athletics in the Viking/Baltic countries at the moment.

Possible live streaming of tonight's Hengelo 10000m races (Ethiopian trials) via the green link at http://www.albertostretti.org/ Kenenisa in the men's (7.45pm). Ayana & Pavey in the women's (7pm). Startlist links at the same link. Quote:

Gutted for Sally Pearson though sadly not surprised. I was lucky enough to be in the Stadium when she won gold in London. That rare breed, an Aussie sportsperson who's also popular with Brits.
Also Lolo Jones has apparently scratched from the US trials. |

That European squad does have a whiff of 3rd spot Olympic run offs about it, which will add to the fun. Nice to see a big team, though I'd suggest they're also trying to run a lot of those athletes in to some kind of form for Rio.
Thankfully there's no women's 400m at the this evenings Paavo Nurmi games. So I won't get in to trouble, with a bit of luck. It's unfortunate about Sally Pearson, but I found myself wincing during her races this season. Given the extent of her wrist injury any fall would've been potentially nasty. |

Great crowd and weather in Turku for the Paavo Nurmi Games, warrants a better place on the calendar and a much stronger field.

49.60 for Sebastian Roger in the 400mh, so not quite what he needs. OK, we'll let Ghana keep Sean Safo-Antwi. |

Germans flying in the Javelin! Rohler 91.28 in Turku beating his own WL & PB by 2 metres. Weber 2nd with a 3 metre PB, 86.83.
David King equalled his 13.54 PB and Vernon ran 13:26. Over in Hengelo, Ayana has won the Ethiopian trials in 30:07 WL! The fastest ever debut at the distance? Burka 2nd, Tirunesh (a late addition to the startlist) was 3rd, both in 30:28. Nine women under 31 mins! Pavey was a late withdrawal. Rather strange men's Ethiopian trials race in Hengelo? My stream didn't work so I didn't see what happened but pretty much all the well-known names didn't finish - K Bekele, Jeilan, Legese, Alamirew & Merga. This left the way for Demelash, Tola & Embaye to take the spots for Rio. Winner in 26:51. Results - https://www.atletiek.nu/wedstrijd/uitslagen/7240/54325/

Jamaican Trials 30 June to 3 July
Jamaican trials start today. Not sure if there is a stream available for this.
Don't see a repeat of 2012 when Blake beat Bolt to both sprints. Who claims the 2 other spots behind Bolt are up for grabs. Blake & Powell probably the favourites. For someone who is so mentally fragile Powell does have an incredible record of making Jamaican teams. Likes of Ashmeade can't be ruled out. Shelly-Ann's form will be interesting. Thompson will be favourite for both sprints. Shelly-Ann will probably have enough for the 100 to make team but she will need to start dropping her time if she wants to win that 3rd Olympic Gold. I wonder if she'll even bother with 200? |
