He got the QT he was needing a few days ago and so has graciously conceded a certain gold to one of his team-mates.

Has Rimmer ever won a medal of any kind? I can't think of one occasion where he has so him turning his nose up at the Euro's now he's got an Olympic QT seems wasteful.

Probably won't be a popular opinion in this thread but after watching some of today's events just now I wish the BBC still the rights to this. Eurosport's coverage is utterly shambolic. The interviews from Fiona May make Phil look like a Queen's Counsel and several times they have just abruptly cut from commentators to presenters or vice versa when they were in mid sentence.

Not to mention the terrible video at the start where they had Russian's speaking without translation or subtitles. At the end of one of the track races, just as they were coming up to the line ES decided now was the time to go split screen to take in some random attempt in a field qualification event. If they are going to take on Olympic coverage I hope to god that they start to get their act together.

True, it wasn't perfect, but hey, we got to see a ton of field event action and I like the idea of the split screen. In practice, whether it works well I'm not sure yet. Also, I think Jonathan &Fiona and the commentary team did the nationalistic cheerleading better (more sober) than the BBC.

Jo is such a star. The old gal has still got a few tricks left in her socks yet.

Just catching up on results from earlier. Between work & watching the football not seen any of the coverage (that may be a good thing).

Chuffed Jo Pavey got the qualifying time for Rio. The IAAF needs to sort out the nation hopping. This is supposed to be the European Championship not the African champs. Good to see a SB from Dina in the heat, hopefully a bit quicker in the final tomorrow & a gold medal. Jodie's form still so so.

They won't be contenders for medals but well done to Rachael Wallader in the Shot & Rob Mullet in the Steeplechase are the first Britons to make European finals in their events since 1990 & 94 respectively. The latter close to a 2nd Olympic standard.

It was a bit all over the place at times, but it's all we have. It's a real blast from the past hearing Stuart Storey.

Not keen on Fiona May - she is not a natural at all. I wasn't even that keen on her when she was competing. So that doesn't help.

Her comeback is one of the most amazing in quite a while...
I think she could make the final here and might medal.

I'm very happy for her. The Norwegian commentators weren't surprised and expected her to medal.
She was quite good as a junior, had some injuries, but this season's been really well with PBs all over.
She might have gotten the silver, but I think Felix was suddenly gone.

She also gonna run the 5000 and should have a decent medal chance even there.

We are off on the longest day...starting with the decathlon hurdles and women's PV quals.

Kasyanov extends his lead with a 13.91 Championship Record! Ashley Bryant 14.68, 9th overall in the discipline, still 10th overall.

And this is the point at which you miss the race walks, because according to the schedule there is now nothing but women's PV quals for about an hour.

Don't know why it's labelled as a CB since Arthur Abele clocked 13.55 (+0.5m/s) in Zürich 2014.

Ashley Bryant 42.85 in the decathlon discus - unfortunately he is in the B group, so lots bigger marks to come. Improves to 42.98.

Zharnel Hughes just awful in heat 1 of the 200m, 21.21 for 7th place. Commentators suggest he is carrying an injury, to be charitable.

Urena in silver medal position in the Decathlon No Marks in the discus, so it's not just KJT that blows nailed-on medals.

Ashley Bryant 43.62 for SB in the Dec Discus.

Julian Reid 15.80 in the first round of the TJ qualifying - automatic Q is 16.65.

Don't think GB will have any champions on this occasion.

Worth noting only 2 Brits that won medals in the 2008 WJCh (in the same host city) have since won senior global medals in T&F - and in relays at that (Nelson and Levine; latter indoors). On the other hand, Pallant has become a two-time world duathlon champion.

Nathan Douglas 16.33 in first round of TJ qualifying

Yes!!! Julian Reid 16:62, SB in the TJ!

Reigning champ Benjamin Compaore FRA in trouble, not in a qualifying position after 2 jumps. Veteran multi-medallist Marian Oprea ROM also in trouble.

And TJ qualifying grinds to a halt amidst complaints about the quality of the track. Carpenters involved, as a large sinkhole appears at the place where there would normally be the long jump take-off board.

Or British as in the case of Antonio Infantino. I have no issues with people like him choosing to represent a different country where there are clear family links. Lots of Brits post Brexit are exploring similar options to obtain passports & retain EU citizenship.

Nation hopping for money when you have no ties to that country is a joke and makes a mockery of international competition. Fionnula McCormack who finished 4th in the 10K last night has been vocal in her criticism of the nation hoppers.

Eliot Giles gets easily through in the first round of the 800m. 1:50 odds Another one to be a bit lucky with his positioning.

Fiona May shows off her Paxman-like interviewing skills again.

As long as she doesn't beat our Steph to a medal. I won't be able to forgive her if she does.

Jamie Webb completely collapses on last bend of the 800m, runs into last. Reasonably strong event, Kszczot, Lewandowski & Bosse in the mix.

Ashley Bryant 9th in the Decathlon Discus, up to 8th overall now.

It was a huge shame for Steph Twell breaking her ankle in 2011. That could have been her year in the 1500. Running 4:02/4:03 consistently in 2010 and with it being before the East African-born athletes really took over in numbers, she could have medalled in Daegu (where Hannah England took the silver.)

Did you see Emma Pallant making a return in the 5000 at the British Trials? From what I've read she's teed off about how she gets treated by British Triathlon.

Agree Re: No champions. We don't have the stand out stars from recent World Juniors like KJT, Gemili, DAS & Lake. A few medal chances though. Lake opted out of defending both other titles. She is doing the Heptathlon in Amsterdam but could have opted to do the HJ in Poland. Hope there is some coverage on Eurosport, they do usually have some.

Before World Juniors next week sees the inaugural European Youth Championships in Georgia from 14th-17th.

Looks like they have got the TJ qualifying start again after a neat bit of work with saw and plane. Don't know if any compensation jumps are going to be offered.

Veteran Nelson Evora does not make qualifying in the TJ, Compraore probably does.

Barbora Spotakova qualifies in the third round of the javelin.

Nathan Douglas does not improve in the TJ, so out.

Stuart Storey seems to be going through a bit of a senior moment meltdown just now. Does not quite realise that the fact that people are still jumping means the competition is not finished and the results are not decided.

Uh-oh, Fiona falls into a panic when German bloke replies in German.

Right, off for a swim and some lunch I think. Decathlon PV about to start and Goldie Sayers goes in Group 2 of the javelin.
