Gutted for Zharnel. Such a shame he's been struck by injury this year after such a promising season in 2015.

Goldie Sayers only 53.36 in the javelin, a long way off qualifying. Ashley Bryant 4.60 in the PV, looking like Thomas van der Plaetsen BEL is going to build up a big lead there.

Skipped through the mornings coverage and now I'm up to speed. Watching Eurosport for a whole championship will be a thing to get used to. While I don't miss the studio waffle, I do miss Steve Cram and Andrew Cotter.

Not exactly sure why Zharnel was sent if he's in such bad shape. Last year he would've blitzed that 200m field. I don't see how sending him in to get thrashed in a first round race really helps his development.

As for Goldie Sayers. I would politely suggest she really should've retired years ago with all her injury woes.

Starting off with the afternoon session, solid block of blethering to begin with.

In the decathlon, van der Plaetsen went on to jump 5.40 to Kasyanov's 6.90, so turned around into a 60 point lead. Ashley Bryant still in 9th. vdP has a javelin PB that is 10 metres better than Kasyanov.

Be it the BBC, be in Eurosport one thing is constant - interviews with Seb Coe will always be sycophantic.

Starting off the hurdles, Jack Green 48.98 for third in the first semi, goes into the lucky loser pool. NR for the Norwegian winner, Warholm!

He's pulled an extra 2.10m out of nowhere?! That'll have Lavillenie quaking in his boots!

48.98 SB for Jack Green to get 3rd... nervous wait now to see if he'll get a fastest loser spot to the final

Ashley Bryant 68.28 SB in the Javelin! Anything up near 70 is huge in the decathlon. Will make up a few places with that.

National Record for the Turk....ish. Rhys Williams second. Third place outside Jack Green's time.

Copello wins the second semi with a 48.42 NR and EL. It's also a PB - that's usually a given, but he wasn't Turkish to start with.

I reckon UK Athletics should get on this transfer market. Seems to be a whole bunch of decent athletes available for hire.

We could sell Michael Rimmer to get a few quid in the kitty.

49.50 for third place there, so Jack Green through. Think he can improve for the final.

Fernandez wins the third semi in 49.22, so Green makes the final as a fastest loser.

Tom Burton sadly fails to make the final. Still not sure why he was selected over Seb Rodger, no disrespect to him and fair play for giving it all he had, but I think Seb could've run at least a Rio Q time here

His kidneys ought to be worth something, at any rate. Men's discus qualifying coming up - we don't have anyone.

Bryant finishes his series with a 70.37m SB in the third round! That's perhaps the best ever series he's produced.

Having said that, he needs a time of 4:24.88 or quicker in the 1,500m to score an Olympic standard. His PB is 4:29.75, so I doubt he'll get it.

Must be kicking himself for the HJ, he had another couple of heights in him.

Looks like he's just gonna fall short of the Rio Q again! Needs quicker than 4.25 to get the 8100 mark, and his PB is 4.29.

That High Jump let him down, what a shame!

Great run from Rooney, being on an outside lane was good for his height, and he used it to control the race.

Couple of national records in that semi - Matteo Galvan (45.12, ITA) and Yavuz Can (45.51, TUR)

Kallur run of it, that's be it for the Olympics.

Anders Thorkildsen looks like he has retired into a life of looting, pillaging and generally being a scourge of the high seas.

NM for Rachel Wallader in the first round of the shot. She'd pretty much need a PB to get to the last 8.

Caridad Jerez RT 0.096, so it's a false start by 4 thousandths...and she's disqualified.

Rachel Wallader 15.77 for 11th place.

Silky-smooth for Tiffany Porter.

Only 12.97 (-0.5m/s) though, she'd have been much quicker in the recent preceding years.

Tiff didn't look too impressed by her performance, and I think she might have her hands full in the final.

But so much of that event is down to how well they handle the pressure.

Ah, I'm almost missing Collin's inane insights.

Decent run from Christina, improving round by round which is what she always does on her big competitions......vdP blows a 60m throw in the decathlon with a toe over the line.

Good win for Anyika Onuoru, could be a unique golden double for Anglo-Nigerian womanhood

Ashley Bryant up to an even more tantalising and frustrating 5th in the Decathlon.

Rachel Wallader finishes with 16.06 in the Shot for 12th place.

Eurosport inviting comments on their split screen effect. There might be a few here.

50.43 EL for Libania Grenot in the third semi - her fastest run since Barcelona 2010.
