First km of the women's 5,000m clocked at 3:19.48. That's around 16:37 pace or thereabouts, which is very slow.
Can has now broken away from the field with Bahta and Kuijken for company. |

Always the way in these women's distance races. Too hesitant and fearful.

Well done, Steph! 63 second last lap. Last 4k run at 15 minute pace.
Laura Whittle had a cracking race. Steph seemed to get caught on the hop by Can's break with Bahta & Kuijken but she dug in tremendously. I just wonder though whether she should have gone past Bahta when she caught the chasing group around 2k and try to blunt Bahta's pace a bit more? |

That was good burn up in the 800m. I thought they were really motoring until the Ukrainian decided to get on with it with 30 metres to go!
.Ukraine's first medal too. |

I didn't realise their were two Ingerbrigtsen's. I thought his sunglasses and moustache had fallen off.
![]() Jake Wightman ran it pretty well and gave it a shot on the final lap, I'll give him that. |

My stream died during the 1500m.
![]() Well, there's one poster here who's very, very happy with that result. Norvege are indeed having a great Championships.

Jonathan saying it's amazing how there's two such talented runners in one family. He clearly doesn't know about the third Ingebrigtsen, the wunderkid.

Her 800m was ropy but its a good performance. Always good when the home nation wins a gold - 3 now for Netherland.
Still think she has a lot of work to do to catch Jess |

She's up there with the likes of Laura Ikauniece fighting for potential bronze behind Jess & Brianne. In fact her score here was higher than Laura's in Gotzis. With her 800 though you feel she needs a big cushion going into that event

Just thought people would enjoy these again.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqBld2if1HY https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwyltmUR3MU They ran 10.6 and 47.6 (WR) not too shabby for 1924.

Looking at the 5000 from last night again, that was quite a kick that Steph demonstrated off a solid pace over the previous 3600m ... 62.7 for the last lap and 30.3 for the last 200!
Quite large fields expected for this morning's half marathons. Also making it a team competition seems to have been a good idea to help swell the numbers (6 allowed per country in each race) and there's some very good names in both races, especially the women's. The first 3 finishers for each country count for the team competition. Presumably times will be added up. Fastest PB in the women's race? ... our very own Gemma Steel. Though, of course, she's had her problems and hasn't been in that kind of form in the last 12 months. Jess Coulson has had to withdraw (she doesn't say why on Twitter) - what a rough old time she's had since toeing the line for that Frankfurt marathon. Fastest PBs in the men's race? ... an athlete "from Azerbaijan" and "a Turk", naturally. Both just under 1:00. The Turk is Mike Kigen, no less (now Kaan Kigen Özbilen). A couple of withdrawals for GB in the men's race - Tewelde & Derek Hawkins - leaving a team of just 4. |

The ladies don't seem to be hanging about. Veronica Inglese (ITA) has a 10m lead about 2 km into the race and is really pushing on. She was 6th in the 10,000 here. Gemma Steel up in the group following her as well as (apparently) Charlotte Purdue. Though I can't see her, the commentators are saying she's there. The Portuguese are also well to the fore.
