Agreed. I think it's partially UK Athletics' fault for reinforcing any notion that you can't compete well at two championships 5-6 weeks apart. Laura & Lynsey could, I'm sure, have come away with Gold without grinding themselves into the ground for Rio (definitely Laura anyway; Lynsey would have been in the shake-up for Gold).

Exactly. Ignoring the fact that the Americans routinely compete in a continental-level champs every mid-Summer - the US Trials - before going onto a major Champs in August, and generally do pretty well. But then UK Athletics wouldn't be UK Athletics if they weren't stuffed to the brim with clueless overpaid time-servers.

More on the Russian story - it is ONLY Klishina and Stepanova who get their exemption - Isinbaeva does not.

Impressed with "our" girls (the Dutch) in the relay. If the hand-over is this good in Rio then they might be the best European team (especially if Henry is out). Seems like putting Samuel from the back to the front worked out. Also a young team, as Schippers is the oldest (having just turned 24).

Keep up, I posted about this earlier!

Statement from Shubenkov, clearly not a happy bunny.

I think the biggest factor in sending a stronger team than planned was the 1st round byes for the top ranked athletes. I'm not going to criticise any athlete for skipping Euros, Rio prep is always going to take priority and it will fit in with some athletes plans but not others. I still remain unconvinced about Euros in Olympic year overall. It does have a different feel compared to the non Olympic year editions and it struggles to get media coverage with everything else going on.

Another thing to add about Elliot Giles - he's self-coached. Definitely has a very promising future ahead of him for sure once all the right bits and pieces fall into place for him!

I thought he was coached by Matt Yates

Well, stuff like Wimbledon and the Tour de France are annual events. The only other problem is the EC football, but that is played in the evening only (this week).

Women's/Girls' 400H in Eugene:
- 16 year old makes the Olympic team!
- Dalilah Muhammad runs 52.88 (the fastest time in the world since Hejnova in the Moscow WCh 2013)

Sydney McLaughlin's time of 54.15 is also a WJR* by a quarter of a second!!! Even by the standards of American juniors in recent years, that's utterly insane!

Come Rio, she will be several months younger than Jana Pittman was when she competed in Sydney 2000 (who went on to win a pair of world titles).

[* Also a WYB, it must be said]

Women's 200m top 3 (windspeed -0.6m/s):
Bowie 22.25
Stevens 22.30
Prandini 22.53

That means Felix can only do the 400m in Rio - 200m defense now off the table by just a hundredth!

Reg Kasyano'v 110H. It's very weird. Also Rico Freimuth ran faster in 2014, and Abele's time IS labelled a CB on wikipedia, as is Kasyanov's?

And Stepanova....

I'm really not happy about this. You feel sorry for athletes like Shubenkov who would have been a great contender for the 100H gold

Chichocka IMO was the favourite to win this. She did very well this summer and Hassan only had one outdoor race before final

The Norwegian thought about submitting a complaint about Irish girl, but not sure if they went through with it in the end...

Very happt about Giles. I thought he could medal and he did. He looked amazing in both heat and semi. Bosse always messes up and Tuka is not there (yet).

They had an interview with Svein Arne hansen on Norwegian TV. He is the president of the IAAf or something, regarding Turkey.

He said that as of now the rules allow this. But the rules would have to be changed and I really think they will be before 2018. Fingers crossed.
It's getting ridiculous....
