Finally got a chance to catch-up with some run, throw and jump after being bunkered down with the footy. Didn't even manage to see any of the Euro athletics champs
The full sessions of the Euro Champs are all archived for replay at http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/eaa/ (they're now unblocked for UK users.)

Alternatively, to watch just selected events, all the track events and some field events are at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq5...1fgg/playlists (all but 3 or 4 are the British Eurosport coverage.)

Ha ha, great run by Bishop and good to see your obsession continues Maybe me you, Melissa and Steph can double date after Rio.? You know, just to, ah, console them on missing out
Well, if you can make it happen, go for it.

Shame about Omoregie not running this during the qualification period, but still a brilliant performance nonetheless, puts him 5th on the all time list.

I suppose his 13.50 from last year might be enough for an IAAF invite perhaps? Although it would require at least 3 of the athletes with Q times to pull out/not get selected for their teams. Not sure when the IAAF Invite deadline is for accepting them.
The IAAF confirmed a few days ago that the only events where they were issuing invites were for the Men's 1500, Steeplechase, Hammer (Mark Dry & Chris Bennett earned their selections this way) & the Heptathlon.

Did they? What's with the "target numbers" then for every event?

Britain's Yoof crushing it in Tbilisi - with one day of competition to go we are on top of the medals table with 5G 3S 3B according to the event Website. [UK Athletics only counts 3G, so don't know what the difference is, para events probably.]

They hit or exceeded the target numbers for all other events. www.road-to-rio.com lists all qualifiers allowing for the 3 per country rule

Yes but if some of the Qs who have not yet been selected end up not going (i.e. the ones who are on the main list but not highlighted green) and the total entrants number falls below the target no., then they'd invite the next highest athletes, correct?

For example there's 10 athletes in the 110m Hurdles list who are not yet highlighted in green, meaning they have not been confirmed for Rio as of yet. If 4 of them were to drop out/not be selected, then the total qualified & selected athletes would drop to 37, so they'd need to invite the next 3 fastest athletes just outside the qualifying mark in order to get their number back to 40 again.

Caster almost showed us her guns there, then remembered the role she was supposed to be playing. Still, her chest is now a tribute to the skills of South African cosmetic surgeons. Not since the golden age of Baywatch have we seen boobs that bounce like that when someone is running.
Her wife Violet will be pleased!!

A really good meeting on tomorrow (Monday) - the Istvan Gyulai Memorial from near Budapest.

You can watch the meeting at http://www.mediaklikk.hu/m4-elo/ (very stable HD stream direct from the provider; no geo-blocking) from 3.58pm - 7.01pm UK time.

Some really good fields, all pretty deep.
Just a few of the names competing - Kirani James, Rudisha, VCB, McLeod ... A few Brits too - Jack Green, Rhys Williams, Yousif, Nick Miller, Proctor & Hitchon.

For the startlists go to http://gyulaimemorial.hu/idorend and click on the first blue Rajtlista link for the PDF to download.

For hammer fans, I watched this meeting last year and they showed a load of the hammer competitions. It's in Hungary, so of course they did!

And the British Youth Team added two more golds, a silver and a bronze yesterday in Tbilisi to finish top of the medals table with 5G, 4S and 4B. The good news was that the middle distance were our strongest events.

Next up, World Junior Champs from Poland. Eurosport coverage starting on Wednesday. Eurosport has all the evening sessions live.

I think the target number is that rather than a 100% we must have this number regardless. Think they've just used the invites for events where there is an obvious shortfall. A number of events like the men's sprints are quite a bit over the target so they are probably not bothered if they end up with a slight shortfall elsewhere. Having say 30 in the men's shot is fine but having only 21 or 22 in the Hammer would be a bit odd not to mention unfair. Remember the IOC has a limit for numbers for each sport so the IAAF don't really want to go over that.

I think there are also logistical issues. Most Olympic Committees have strict deadlines on selection to plan travel, Visas etc. so they probably can't invite people on an ongoing basis or if they did the invites would just get turned down.

And they have to fiddle the numbers a bit so that countries that have no qualifiers at all can get at least the couple of athletes they are entitled to have. To say nothing of those countries who,....how shall I put it?....normally send large number of competitors but unexpectedly won't be sending any at all this time.

Ok, scratch that. It is geo-blocked now. It wasn't yesterday (or last year).

Sorry!

Me too ... Hello in Spanish.

The pacemaker in the Women's 800 was a local lass by the surname of Apathy ...

Niyonsaba just beat Ludlow, in a click under 2 mins.

If only we could persuade her to marry English Gardner.

McLeod goes crashing to the track for the 2nd race in a row. Off the same hurdle too? He was getting well beaten at the time though. Local hero, Baji, takes it in 13.34.

Not often you see a 1:43.37 run at even pace. If one man can though, it's Rudisha. Must have gone through 400 in 51.6-ish.

M 400: 1 James 44.62 ... 6 Yousif 45.64
W LJ: 1 Bartoletta 6.80; 2 Proctor 6.71 SB
M 400H: 1 Japanese guy 49.27 ... 4 Rhys Williams 50-flat-ish.

Hi there I'm new to this and I was just wondering on your opinion on Rio olympics and that is
Do you think mo farah will win gold in his 2 events and for me the real biggy is Jessica Ennis hill - is she competively ready for winning gold ? To me she seems lightly tested ,I hope she does win gold but I wonder if she's going to be competive ? Let me know your thoughts ,cheers .

I'd back Jess to come through on the basis of her competitive temperament and consistent ability to find the right throw at the right time. Mo, I'd take for the 10,000k still, but I think he'll get overhauled in the 5000.

Still I don't think there's anyone around who knows how to beat Mo in a championship 5k or 10k. Geoffrey Kamworor would appear to have the best chance to do that in the 10k but, whilst he's no slouch over the last lap, he doesn't have Mo's explosive finishing speed.

Jess is in the 100H and the Long Jump at the London Diamond League meeting this weekend so we can further gauge then what shape she's in.
However, her 6733 score in Ratingen 3 weeks ago was just 32 points behind Brianne Theisen-Eaton's World Lead for 2016 (and better than her winning score in Beijing last year) so she's certainly already proved that she should be competitive (barring any setbacks) and I expect it will be tight in Rio too.

I'll say they both defend their titles successfully.

Ok great thank you for your thoughts as I'm thinking of backing a Olympian for sports personality and as the celebration games are on at the weekend I wanted to get a few quid down before the media starts on those athletes that will shine at Rio !
My hart says mo farah because at some point he will be great britains greatest athlete and my wallet says Jessica ennuis hill because she's an amazing athlete and mother and just well loved by the public ,but she has to win a gold - I'm torn between the 2 !

Just my opinion, but of the two (presuming they both win their events), I'd say 100% that Jess has a better chance of picking up the SPOTY award. She's pretty much universally loved and admired by the public whereas Mo still divides opinion somewhat.

What about Greg for an each-way bet? Can you do each-way bets on SPOTY?

Yes I believe you can - I'll more likely do all 3 LOL - but on a serious note looking at past spotty results Jessica Ennis hill has had a few runners up and 3rd places ? I'm just thinking if if IF and its a IF mo farah does that Olympic double would it be difficult for the BBC and the public to NOT acknowledge double double Olympic Gold medals and treble double gold world championships- would that be difficult to ignore ? If He wins another double Olympic gold !

They all deserve a top 3 finish but think Murray will win SPOTY again.

Even more so if he wins gold and the Davis Cup!
