It's always struck me as strange that the Under 20 (formerly known as the Juniors) decathletes use the lighter implements and lower hurdles while at the same event the heptathletes use the "grown up" ones.

Well of course women mature a lot earlier than men.

Kendra Harrison in London. Maybe she can break the WR now since all Rio pressure is off
Is weather forecast good for tmrw?

Forecasts suggest London will have a warm weekend (mid-20s Celsius) with sunny spells and the threat of occasional showers.

Too young probably, though would be great experience...”

He'd need 8100 in the decathlon proper, and the qualification window is closed anyway.

That reminds me - although I labelled it as such earlier, his score of 8162 technically isn't a WJR. That's because the shorthand in question is linked to Torsten Voss of East Germany (as it was then), who scored an eye-popping 8397 in 1982 with senior implements (!!) as junior implements weren't available at the time.

Even the great Daley Thompson 'only' scored 8082 (in 1977) as a junior.

And to complicate matters even further, in 1982 that would have been the old Uwe Hohn spec javelin which travelled further.

.”

And being an East German in 1982, his eyes very probably were popping.

In fact, there is so much coverage scheduled there may even be time for more than one throw in the shot putt.

And the official timetable and start lists

Your synopsis sounds spot on.

I shall record the whole lot in order to skip through all the yakking.

Drama in the men's 400m semis - Baboloki Thebe won his semi in 44.67, just a hundredth outside the CR...only to be disqualified for a lane infringement!

Angelica Moser wins the women's pole vault with a 4.55m CR!

Men's 1,500m - has to be photofinish of the champs, surely?! XD

Well, there's no way some of these guys are under 20. The Ethiopian who took the silver in the 1500m was practically bald.

Hill wins the women's 100m in 11.07 (+0.9m/s), a CR and WJL; about the same as in Cali 2015, albeit without altitude assistance this time.

Swoboda clocked an 11.12 NJR and St Fort completes the podium in 11.18.

Incidentally, here's that photofinish from the men's 1,500m.

Random but where are Shana Cox and Michael Bingham? Am I missing something?

Going by POT, Shana competed in the States earlier in the year but nothing since, so I assume she is injured.

Bingham went out early at the UK trials but competed at Lufbra last weekend in the 400 hurdles (51.94s), so a change of event could be on the cards for him.

Those Bingham results are from 2015, he hasn't raced at all this year.

I assume they've both "retired" now but you never know...

At least they're happily married

Michael Johnson in the house for the BBC at the Olympic Stadium! Don't remember him being on coverage of a Diamond League event before.

I love listening to Michael Johnson, and he is right about them banning Russian athletes from the Olympics. But i do have some sympathy with the athletes who are clean and their dream to compete at an Olympics has been ruined. But the other side of it, i also i agree with Michael about the fourth place athlete who should have won a bronze medal, because that athlete was on drugs

These pole vaulters need to show Michael Johnson some more respect. How dare they jump up and down over bars while Michael is talking!

And now they've gone and ruined it! 25 minutes of glorious chat, and now we've got a whole lot of foreigners with hard to pronounce names running around the track? Who cares about that?

Quality performance from GB in the relay, British record. FWIW 41.81 would have been good enough for bronze at London 2012.

Even with some "steady" changeovers that's a serious chunk out of the British record.
