The all-conquering staying hurdler, Thistlecrack, is due to make his debut over fences at Chepstow today in the Novice Chase at 3.35

Connections are bullish.......the Gold Cup is the aim and he's already Favourite for Cheltenham in March despite never having jumped a fence in public.

it's a shame but there doesn't seem to be much interest in racing apart from the forum competitions.....

I'm just as quiet on here these days.
I started using Horseracebase a few months ago and have been concentrating on system building since then so, although I read everythnig on here, I rarely actually contribute anymore.
Only a set amount of free time and something has to give

Really nasty incident at Kempton this afternoon

Racing at Kempton was abandoned following a nasty incident involving four horses and jockeys in the third race of the afternoon.

Nellie Deen was tracking the pacesetting Madame Butterfly in the hands of Frederik Tylicki when the pair suffered a heavy fall.

Jim Crowley and Electrify were racing immediately behind and were brought down, as was Steve Drowne's mount Skara Mae.

Ted Durcan was also caught up in the melee and was unseated from Sovrano Dolce.

Both Drowne and Durcan returned to the weighing room, albeit walking gingerly, but Tylicki and Crowley were both being attended to on the track.

With racing having already been delayed for over an hour, Racing UK reported that both riders were being taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, with Tylicki taken by air ambulance and Crowley by road ambulance.

The decision was then taken to abandon the meeting.

Not much info but Rishi said both jockeys had spinal injuries which doesn't sound very good.........on the plus side they were both conscious and had agreed to that brief medical report being issued

Best wishes to both of them

I'm guessing they were probably travelling around 30mph ?

Best wishes to them .

Must have been pretty bad falls if Racing UK were editing the falls out of the replays of the race that is slightly unusual

Crowley has now been released from hospital but Freddie Tylicki is still in intensive care where he is stable.

Jim Crowley's agent has said that he suffered a broken nose and that is about it for him.

Freddie Tylicki is still in Intensive Care.

Can't find any updates on him today though

Doesn't seem good with it now being 4 days

I read somewhere that there was going to be another update before the week was out, and as you say it doesnt look good at the moment. Sadly this is the bad side of racing and we can just hope that he recovers fully and soon. I doubt he will race again though.

The thing with falling on the flat is it is at a much faster speed and with no warning unlike the jumps. Mick Fitzgerald was saying earlier on in the summer how much more painful it was to fall on the flat as you just don't expect it. He added that most jump jockeys would rather fall over the fences than inbetween them.

Very, very sad news. Not only is that the end of his racing career but it will change the rest of his life. Just a small clip of the heels and his life changes forever. Will be so hard for him to take as well. It is just very sad to hear. Not much else to say really.

I'm not sure if those reports mean that the paralysis is permanent or if he might slowly recover ?

Wish him all the best and hope there is some chance of recovery in the long term

Good afternoon of Jumps racing on RUK today with Wincanton, Aintree and Kelso with a couple of flicks over to ATR for the two big races at Down Royal

Silviniaco Conti makes his seasonal reappearance in the grade one chase in Northern Ireland but he has tended to need a run as he gets older and I think he might be vulnerable today even though he is currently favourite. I've gone for Valseur Lido

In the other grade race at DR Nicholls send over Le Mercurey and has won this race seven times in the last eight years !. The time he didn't win (last year) he finished 2nd to the subsequent Gold Cup winner.

I didn't watch the Breeders Cup last night but I've just seen the finish of the 'Classic' with Arrogate beating California Chrome

Don't know about you guys but if I've have a bet and am watching the race I can pretty always tell at some point during the race that I've lost........it's usually pretty obvious even if your horse is thereabouts with a furlong to go you can tell if something else is travelling better and will almost certainly beat yours (same in reverse of course.......I can usually tell when mine is going to win before the race is over)

But must say that I'd have given up on Arrogate last night a couple of furlongs out with him a couple of lengths behind and the jockey pushing and shoving whilst California Chrome was travelling like a travelly thing as Matt might say

So........a brilliant win by Arrogate and he looks a superstar

Vautour has been put down sadly - seems he was simply grazing in the paddock and broke a leg ... a massive blow to Mullins though having lost so many horses just recently.

Been a bad week for the racing world what with the news of Freddie being paralysed from the waist down - I wouldn't be surprised if this accident leads to a couple of senior jockeys hanging up their saddles a bit earlier than planned as it just shows what a tough game horse racing can be ... your life can change in an instant and you simply are not in control of your own destiny.

Oh dear.......shame about Vautour
