Exactly

Betting on Coral as to main presenter

Matt Chapman - Evs
Jeremy Kyle - 5/2
Oli Bell - 5/2
John Inverdale - 5/1
Mark Pougatch - 5/1
John Francome - 6/1
Alistair Down - 6/1
Derek Thompson - 6/1
Catt - 8/1
John Hunt - 8/1
Ed Chamberlain - 8/1

10/1 bar
Oh dear - if jobs are handed out on Yeeehaaa! and being a complete and utter bell-end then Chapman just needs to phone his application in ...
sThe first channel that employs somebody that actually tips and bets winners will do quite well ... I am not sure what Chapmans stike s for his Sun column but I am willing to bet that an untrained monkey could rival him ... on a bad monkey day,.

No question why the bookies have him as favourite ...

Just caught up with last night's Celebrity Mastermind

Mick Fitzgerald came runner up. Faltered on the general knowledge bit but did well on his Specialist subject of Cheltenham winners

They were talking about it on The Sunday Forum

One of the other guests suggested he might have been waiting for the question 'How did Albert Einstein get on in his Physics Exam'?

Pass

Correct !

Do any FMs here get RUK or ATR through any means other than Virgin Cable or Sky ?

BT ?

Online ?

I'm looking at alternatives in case I decide to ditch Virgin TV and I don't think I can have a Sky dish.........and my Freeview comes via a communal aerial so don't think I could get paid for channels on there

According to this you can get RUK on Freeview, see below, but afaik not ATR.

cheers jmc........

I don't have a connected TV and I don't have a Freeview Box......I get my Freeview through a communal aerial service for the whole block and it doesn't have the capacity to be tailored individually for each flat.......we just get the standard freeview channels

My Virgin Media has gone back to normal today so I'll stop thinking about alternatives until it goes tits up again !

Some good news

Hereford racecourse is going to re-open in October :

Controversially closed in December 2012, the Arena Racing owned course has continued to stage point-to-point and Arab racing.

However, jumping under Rules will resume on October 6 with a card transferred from Worcester.

Further meetings will follow on October 31 (switched from Southwell), November 23 (Fontwell) and December 19 (Lingfield).

"They will be four fixtures there this year, starting on the October 6th. Obviously, it's exciting news," said Susannah Gill, director of external affairs.

"Hereford stage proper grass-roots National Hunt racing."

I thought it was a bit strange when I heard the news about Hereford

I assumed it would be full of luxury apartments and hypermarkets by now !

It just struck me as odd that they stopped 'racing' but carried on racing under a different code..........if they always intended to maintain it as a racecourse and not develop the land they might as well have carried on with proper meetings !

You can get Racing UK online. I have it - I took advantage of a special offer where I pay just £10 per month for a year. Think the normal price is something like £30 per month.

I also live in a ground floor flat and just have Freeview. I think if you have a good TV though, you may be able to get Racing UK through this.

One good thing about Racing UK is that you get free entrance to weekday jumps meetings at Racing Uk tracks up to 29 April.

Of course, Racing Uk have most of the top UK tracks on their roster (excepting Doncaster, Chepstow over jumps and possibly Newcastle on the flat).

It was probably down to politics between Arc and the BHA.

The BHA release full findings regarding Darren Egan and his relationship with Betfair punter Philip Langford:

http://www.britishhorseracing.com/pr...ilip-langford/

Pretty compelling evidence. Let's hope the bans are as lengthy as possible.

Probably a stupid question, but will any bans forthcoming be respected by the US racing authorities? As I see Egan is now based over there, working primarily as a work rider at the moment.

It's a shame, and I don't know what the answer is, but the public perception has always been that horse racing is corrupt from bottom to top and it's just that some of the trainers / jockeys are yet to be caught out, either through their own skill or the ineptitude of those trying to catch them out.

Unfortunately it is just far too easy to not win a race, when the horse should romp home by a country mile.

I see the other named person has been conspicuous by her absence for quite a while, apart from having a moan at Victoria Pendleton ....

"Workers in racing who can ride better than her will never get the chance to go amateur makes our sport look a joke. In this sport it's about who you are not your ability."

Those grapes have a pretty sour taste.

Brilliant day's jump racing today with the Trials meeting at Cheltenham and a terrific card at Donny

Feel a bit sorry for Donny with 3 grade 2 races and the Skybet Chase........it must be Doncaster's biggest jumps meeting of the year, yet it gets overshadowed by Cheltenham

There must be an argument for one of these 2 meeting being moved to the Sunday ?

Obviously the stumbling block is TV coverage........it wouldn't get any on Sunday (terrestrial). ........maybe when ITV gets the racing they might show some Sunday racing on ITV4 and encourage a few big days to move from saturday

News today that two more tracks - Leicester and Stratford - are to leave ATR and move to RUK next year

Does seem to be a one way flow.......

ATR of course will get Hereford back so not as bad as it could be

I see that Hayley Turner is doing the afternoon studio shift on ATR with Enzo.......

I did read that she was going to be doing some work for ATR but this is the first time I've seen her

I like Hayley, she's a good talker about the sport.........

He's been been banned for 12 years for breaching the sport's corruption and fraudulent practice rules.

Further news on the 'battle' between racing and bookmakers

As we all probably know racing is trying to get tough with the bookies by drawing up a list of 'Approved Betting Partners' being the bookies that have agreed to pay over more than the legal requirements to sustain racing, basically revolving around online betting based largely in Gibraltar on which no Levy is payable.

Racing is trying to convince racecourses not to accept sponsorship of races from non-ABP bookmakers

News today that Ladbrokes have ended their sponsorship of the World Hurdle as they have failed to sign up to the ABP deal. Ryanair have stepped in to sponsor the race.

Betfred had earlier pulled out of Gold Cup sponsorship for the same reason.......a company called Timico have stepped in

I agree with the tough stance that racing is taking.......but unfortunately it's probably doomed to failure as some racecourses (York for example) appear to be refusing to go along with it.........and of course race sponsorship is only one method of marketing for the bookies. As long as the Post and daily newspapers have bookie adverts all over the place they probably reckon they can do without race sponsorship........or at least it'll be years before any noticable results of the policy.

Victoria Pendleton has her first NH ride under rules tomorrow in the Hunter Chase at Fakenham at 4.10

Her mount, Pacha Du Polder, is her intended ride at Cheltenham and is rated some way ahead of all his rivals tomorrow.......he's currently the 4/7 Favourite

Big test for Vicky as she's now expected to win not just to get around

Oh dear........Vicky bumped in to and unseated at about the fifth or sixth fence

Got up OK

Prior to that she'd hung a few lengths off the back........I wonder if she's a bit wary of travelling amongst horses. I did note in a couple of flat rides that she often raced out wide as though trying to stay away from the pack

Let's see if today dents her confidence.

Not to be for Vicky P.

Can't honestly see her riding at Cheltenham... not this year anyway. Looked to lack a lot of confidence to me in the early stages of that race and a much bigger field at the festival will pose a much bigger test than that particular race.

Is it just me or is Hayley Turner one of the worst pundits ATR has ever had ?

Doesn't seem to have a firm opinion on anything. How can you be a pundit without having strong thoughts on the racing?

She's on with Rob Cooper. Awkward silences aplenty. It's enough to send me to sleep quite frankly.

To be fair to Hayley I suspect that Bob Cooper isn't the easiest of presenters to be paired with........despite his age and experience he always gives off the 'deer in the headlights' vibe........

I expect she'd be much more at ease with Enzo or Sean

Bit surprised to see Mike Cattermole doing the general Sports Bulletin on Sky News.

I don't think I've seen him on ATR for a while, maybe he's got a new job.

He hasn;t commentated much recently which has to be a good thing. Hopefully he wont be commentating at Cheltenha this year. He normally does though.
Regularly commentates at Ascot but he seems to have been missing recently. He;s a dreadful commentator.
