Happy New Year everyone!!

Just a reminder - there are two episodes of Eastenders tonight - the first at 6.30pm and the second at 8pm.

What to expect from tonight’s episodes:

Spoiler

The end of Dean?

We all know that Matt is leaving the role of Dean, but the question is how he will leave? The poll therefore asks that if Dean survives, would you like to see him return in the future?

Dean - potential wasted or given a storyline we will remember him for?

Where to begin? When I heard that Matt was returning as Dean I was so happy. Fast forward almost 2 years and I have very mixed views about it. On the one hand it’s been great to see Matt back on Eastenders and have Dean become a huge character after Deano not having a lot of screen time until his exit in 2008. However, I hate what they did to Dean’s character. While I like that Matt has been given the chance to show what he can do, it’s to the extent of ruining his character. Of course, we are yet to know his fate, but if Dean doesn’t die, could he return in the future? Possibly…but would we want to see him?

So, as we say goodbye to Dean in whatever way it happens, here's a look back on him as Deano:

Deano arrives (2006):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU2yUUiooZw

Roxy winks at Deano in her first scene (2007):

Sean taunts Deano about going to prison:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekDPyk675g4

Deano returns from prison:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0gZeRBvDF0

Deano headbutts Sean (2008):

And here is a scene from Dean's first episode back in the Vic. I personally think this is where Dean's storylines should have carried on from.

Dean returns (2014):

So, as we say goodbye to Dean, I must say a huge good luck to Matt for the future. He did very well in his time away from EE the first time, and here is a look at some of the other roles Matt had:

Hustle (series regular 2009-2012):

Guest star in 2 episodes on Casualty (2009):

Guest star in 1 episode of Death in Paradise (2011):

Happy New Year everyone!

Christmas and New Year 2014 was dominated by Dean, Linda and Mick. Christmas 2015 is being dominated by....shock...Dean, Linda and Mick. I'm past caring about them and their stupid punch ups now.

I hope Dean doesn't die. Not because the character is good particularly, more that the story of two warring brothers. & their flawed Mum is a story that's got plenty of mileage left in it yet. Dean is a character who's story is by no means finished. With Danny Dyer & Linda Henry apparently making a long term commitment to the show it would be good to know the fly in the ointment could be back to produce further irritation further down the line.

On top of that Dean is now well integrated into the show, having links to the Mitchell's, the Masoods, the Carters (obviously) even the Cokers. Hes dated a Branning & a Slater- as a character he's fully integrated which means picking up again in say 5 years wouldn't be too difficult.

But I'm not sure-after the attempted drowning just a few days ago, would Dean survive a 2nd attempted drowning??

May I also add that Matt has been magnanimous over his exit over the last few days. He's always been incredibly polite & positive about his time on EE, over his two stints. That's nice to see.

The cast lists would indicate it's his last episode tonight but we could always get a surprise I suppose.

Thankoo Sez.

Why put it on at 6:30 and not just for an hour on 8:00.

I never fall for the hype any more. Lots of things were said about the Christmas week episodes and they didn't amount to much.

Because it would clash with the beloved Coronation Street, 8:30-9pm.

And now Dean is a zombie who can rise from the dead whilst under water .
Just you wait for Christmas 2016 when the Zombie Apocalypse arrives in Walford .

I'd love for Dean to return in future. Matt has been outstanding this stint. I hope he gets sent down and forced to seek mental help. I'd rather him return when Mick is not around though.

Happy New Year guys, and thanks for the brilliant thread Sez.

I've really enjoyed Christmas on The Square so far, and the past few episodes in particular have been fantastic. Hoping for a good set of episodes again for tonight's New Year special(s).
