TV cleverer than me
inothernews

My television is more intelligent than me.

These days we get all these clever, smart gimmicks, whether we want them or not.

About an hour ago I accidentally pushed a wrong button by mistake when I picked up remote. Now, I know what it did (it sent the News Channel in to reverse, then freeze frame). I pressed 'Select' but now News Channel is about 30 seconds behind. I know it is, because I was able to check just now when BBC1 was duplicating News- so how do I get News Channel back to 'real time'?

There were no written instructions with TV. The bloke who installed it looked amazed when I asked for an instruction booklet, as if no one had ever asked him for such a thing before.

Also, while I'm at it, I must have accidentally done something wrong in the past, as I get what I suppose is a reminder at 6.58 each evening on BBC1 (the name of channel and programme for 5 seconds) Any idea how I clear that?

No-one is going to be able to help as you have omitted the most important bit of information.

Make and model of TV.

Well, it's a Toshiba of some description.

Any idea which button on remote control would make it catch up??

If only there was an 'I didn't mean it, Forget I just did that' button.

Without knowing the exact model it is impossible to say. Remote controls can change from model to model and year to year and there is no guarantee that what applies to one model will apply to another, even of the same make.

Turn the Tv off or into standby and back on ?

Well, if all else fails, I'll try that- but presumably, having accidentally sent the News channel about 30 seconds behind real time, there ought to be a way to reset it. As in- if I'd done it deliberately I could say 'OK, I've seen the bit I wanted to re watch. Now I want to be 'live' again'.

Surely to be able to pause, rewind and delay live programmes there would need to be some sort of external storage device plugged into the TV? eg a flash drive or USB hard drive. It's possible the TV could have some internal memory but not sure I've seen any that do.

And what happens if you change channel? That should reset the delay buffer as well as the TV is unlikely to be able to feed the news channel to the delay memory at the same time as sending a completely different channel to the display. So when you go back to the news channel it should default back to real time as there is no data in the delay memory to replay.

If the TV can record onto an external drive of some sort then you should see a set of "Play", "Pause", "Stop", "Record" etc buttons on the remote. If so then pressing "Stop" should cancel the delayed replay and drop back into real time.

think it might be alright now, although I won't really know until the news is duplicated on BBC1.

Played with a few buttons, and horror of horrors, got it to rewind again. This time pressed 'Sky' screen went blue for a couple of seconds before returning. But, if someone is being interviewed it's a bit difficult to know if you have jumped forward 30 seconds (back where you should be) or if you are still behind. I do realise some channels will always have a few seconds difference, but this was to do with me putting the channel in to rewind by accident.

Life was so much simpler when it was just BBC1, 2, and ITV.
