you mean there was an age gap?... he fancied 1 woman when she was 13, and married her later. he clearly loved that ONE person and stuck with her. hardly the same as blokes to targeted multiple children over many years. his love was for the person, not the age.
Did you read that back before posting? Its still dodgy to woo a 13 year old, regardless of marrying a few years later. As an adult, an adult, if you saw a 13 year old and pursued her, do you not think thats wrong.

but what is the true story here?.... he may well have met her at 13, but who says he did anything until she was 'of age'?..

id suggest theres a difference between a serial child abuser and someone with an infatuation with 1 underage person. it clearly wasnt a sexually motivated infatuation, otherwise he would have dropped her as she grew up.

Yeah that last sentence is a fair point. For me its dodgy but, BUT, you are correct. I guess there is a difference. Like Wyman and Mandy Smith I guess.

Ravi Shankar.

Never liked the sitar as an instrument, but he had his followers.
Hearing it always reminded me of the comedy TV programme. "It 'ain't Half Hot Mum."

Someone has just 'pmd' me to say he died in 2012. Though I'm sure it saddened many, for me it must have been of such little importance, for it not to have registered at the time, but thanks for that.

I picked the information up this morning from a USA music message board.

Perhaps they've only just found out? They're still bangin' on about "Bowie R.I.P."

Well I don't know why it wouldn't have registered because it was highly reported at the time mostly because of his friendship with George Harrison.

...and the fact that he was Nora Jones' dad. I remember this being quite a story at the time, he was one of those musicians who was pretty well known outside his chosen genre.

Never being a fan of the Beatles, there's no reason why it would register with me.

As for George Harrison, I never had any time for him, the nonsense surrounding "My Sweet Lord" where he was "found to have subconsciously plagiarised the earlier tune He's So Fine," by the Chiffons, always made me laugh. "Really?"
He'd have known the original song well, as the Beatles started out copying MoTown recordings.

Sorry but Harrison seemed like a really nice quiet guy to me. As for My Sweet Lord I didn't think it sounded that much like the Chiffons song.

Obviously 'Wonderful Life' is a recognised classic but his song 'Paradise' is one of the saddest, loveliest things I ever heard.
Not unexpected news of course but it has made me genuinely sad.
A fine, fine songwriter.

I always liked him best of the four of them...quite understated.

The whole plagiarism thing is just a footnote really, no one's really bothered any more.

I don't mind if you're not bothered, but don't think you speak for everyone, you don't.

Footnote?

It was a landmark case. It certainly didn't do his reputation any good and it dragged on for some time and cost him a lot of money.
People in the industry will remember it. It led to other law suits regarding plagiarism.

Even John Lennon years later, said; "He must have known." Of course he did.

Look it all up before dismissing it.

It's a real shame we're losing so many in such a short time

I mentioned here earlier, or elsewhere on DS, that there's a lot of music industry, "baby boomers," (born in the 40s to early 60s), who are of advancing years.

Given the lifestyle of many, I anticipate that we can expect more to sadly die, this year and in subsequent years.

I am very aware of the court decision. There are much more sound alike tracks than My Sweet Lord. Harrison also writ one of the most beautiful songs ever written 'Something'.

Whether there are more "sound a like" tracks, or what Harrison wrote, isn't in dispute.

I responded to the suggestion that the incidence involving Harrison was "just a footnote."

It wasn't.

With due respect, I don't think it worth pursuing this further.

...and it was years ago too, we should't let that episode spoil what is otherwise a great career

I don't really want to get involved in this George Harrison plagiarism argument, but he also "borrowed" the line "something in the way she moves" from James Taylor. James was signed to Apple and, in the studio one day, George heard James playing this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAzgwSLiMUc

and "borrowed", but I think it was with James's permission.
