He seems to have left it 9 months too-bloody idiot!

Who's to guess that in Ireland Kat will gain a son & lose a husband??

Shane Richie would rather quit than have Alfie die on screen. He'd just point blank refuse to act it! So the storyline seems a tiny bit silly, but on the other hand I really hope they take the chance to make this a life experience that will truly change him a bit.

I imagine it's something that you can't go through without changing, and the fact he's completely ignored it shouldn't go un ignored either.

I'm surprised he even got a flight back. Didn't they drive off to Spain?

It's an extremely dangerous thing what Alfie is doing.
I'm sure the storyline will pick up on that and reflect how life threatening the delay in seeking treatment could be for Alfie.

That said, he goes for the scan on the day Charlie dies and Kat finds out she has a son and Stacey falls apart, with all of this going on, will he be able to tell Kat what is going on.

It sets a very bad example to the public.

He hasn't been officially diagnosed yet. I'm suspecting the mass is innocent and not cancer, and in pure soap tradition, will require one operation and Alfie will be well again.

Yep that's exactly what they will do no need at all to go down the path of character with illness for months and months dragging it out, just have a doctor rock up and say it's nothing serious and off Alfie and Kat will trot to Ireland happy ever after job done.

The eye test showed something up and he had a scan but they needed to do more tests and he hasn't had them as far as we know so it's not known whether or not the tumour is actually fatal it could just be a harmless lump.

Much like himself, bless him!

I do think it will be a harmless lump too. The writers do love to scare people and I think Alfie will be fine. People shouldn't leave things like that though. even if a lump is benign it can cause problems and cancer can be stopped if caught in time.

Hadn't thought of that. I was just looking forward to her coming back from Ireland to tell people he was dead

Me too. But then he could be resurrected like Kathy Beale It's better that we see him die onscreen so he can't be brought back. Ever. No "witness protection" or running away with the money. Brown bread!

True.

After the on-screen death we need an on-screen post mortem followed by an on-screen burial or cremation. They can make it a late night ep if they think it's too gruesome for the normal time slot - just as long as they make it clear he really is dead!

I definitely agree with you. I wouldn't mind a Silent Witness style late night episode just to make sure. Maybe they can write it into the spin off. If they ever write the spin off.

Hes either dying in the spin off or next Xmas. Need to give us a Slater Xmas next year and I can't see any other real reason why Kat would stay in the square otherwise and she is still a great character!

I think if Alfie dies it will be at the end of the spinoff which probably will be between next Autumn to early December. Then I think his funeral would be back on EE in Walford with the wake at the Vic. Kat and her son would then stay for a Slater family Christmas and decide to stick around in Walford permanently. That's what I'm imagining will happen anyway.

She is a great character. I think she might have returned to the Square for two reasons, Stacey's baby and Alfie's tumour. I don't think she knows about the tumour yet but what I mean is the writers have brought her back for both these storylines. It's a bit weird how they've come back as I thought they were going to Ireland hence the spin off and then they would have returned to the Square?

Yes. I was still writing when you posted this. This makes sense. You're right.

Is he harmless though? I think he has a nasty streak sometimes. His setting fire to the house hasn't been forgotten by me. He never even checked to see if Kat and the kids were at home. Kat's got permanent scars and could have died.

I disagree. His setting fire to the house with her inside didn't take her needs into consideration. She lost all of her belongings and all the kids' stuff. Imagine how awful that would be. What he did was selfish and stupid. Sometimes when a building catches fire the whole street of shops or row of houses can go up in flames. (I know it's not real, I'm just saying )

Even if Kat had simply broken her nail, then in true EE tradition he wouldn't say a thing (because it's the right time, Kat doesn't need this right now, Kat's too emotional, it's unfair to burden Kat with this as well ..... etc)
