Betamax to Flat Screen TV

Help needed please.
Before I go to the trouble of setting it all up, assuming I have the right connecting cables, will my Betamax videos play via my new Flat Screen TV? Or is it only possible with the old CRT TVs ?

Assuming this is not a wind up, yes it should work.

Assuming you have the correct cables then yes. There is absolutely no reason why not. Many DS folk still have VCR's that are used and I recall that there was no difference between VHS connections or Betamax connections. Most used standard SCART sockets with pre-SCART models requiring composite RCA leads. If you have the appropriate cables then you will be good to go. Don't forget to set your TV to output the original aspect ratio as your Betamax recordings would have probably been in 4:3 ratio.

Older Betamax machines won't have scart, maybe not RCA phono either. Some had BNC. All will have a UHF aerial connection with the content "broadcast" on one of the analogue UHF freq's.

So, assuming your using an aerial connection the procedure will be almost identical to the olden days. Connect the RF aerial output of the beta to the aerial input on the tv. But you will then need to make sure the to tuner is in "analogue mode". Switch on the beta, turn on the test card or play a tape while auto tuning on the tv to find the signal.

As for RCA Phonos (for video as well as audio) some modern LCDs have these inputs for direct connection, but not all.

Ok, cheers guys. So the only thing that could go wrong is that I get a back injury lifting the Betamax player .

Yes, it will work fine - I connect VCR's to new TV's every day (although we probably remove and dispose of many more than we connect).

You should be aware though that the appalling quality of VCR's is really shown up by the up-scaling and larger screen on a modern set.
