Lets face it all her recent releases have been crap and the Xmas album a huge flop.

She hasn't released a decent song since 2010 but Kylie is queen of the comebacks so does she still have one last big record left in her or is The Locamotion riden now over?

All depends on what songwriters and producers she works with. The Giorgio Moroder, Right Here, Right Now track which she guests on, is not bad.

I loved that song too. I'm sure what chart position it got to but she barely seems to promote her stuff anymore.

She promotes endlessly. She was on TFI, Graham Norton, Strictly and did a one off Albert Hall performance in the space of about 2 weeks.

Lack o radio support is her problem now, and that's out of her hands.

No. As much as I liked Kylie 15 years ago.

Industry don't work well for older ladies.
Prove me wrong?

If by vibe do you mean will she light up the charts again then the answers no, that era has passed her and many of her female peers by.

Does that mean the material she is releasing is sub standard, I don't think so, the fact timebomb only peaked at 32 means bugger all to me, it's still one of my fave songs of hers, I also loved her duet with dannii on her recent album, her Albert Hall show was a huge success.

I predict her next album will have some great sounds on it but will it spawn a hit single, no chance, charts aren't relevant these days anyway

Kylie Christmas has sold over 120,000 copies in the UK in six weeks which is another gold album for her. To put it into perspective, MDNA has only sold about 130,000 copies in the UK in four years. Maybe Madonna should have released Rebel Heart during Christmas time and she might have sold 100,000 copies of an album again Same goes for Mariah Carey, Cher, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, etc. Who cares if Kylie's hit-making days are behind her, she spent 25 years having hits, they can't last forever. Madonna hasn't had a hit in the UK for seven years now, that's even longer than Kylie. Her last Top 20 hit was barely two years ago but Madonna's was in 2009.

Kylie Christmas has sold well...considering its only had 6 weeks of proper sales, up to Christmas.
Only You would have made top 40 if all the sales were combinded ....
She sold out the Royal Albert Hall with a fantastic show.
So who cares if she or Madonna have another single chart hit., its albums and tours that matter now!

That Kylie Christmas gig at the Albert Hall was terrible. She sounded appalling. Electronic edged, autotuned, screeching budgie. I had to turn her off.

Watched her earlier on a youtube video of Jools Holland's Hootenanny back in 2007 when she could still sing without autotune. Just Kylie and Jools on piano. Fantastic. But those days are long gone for her.

Firstly her Xmas album didn't flop, for a seasonal record it sold way more than expected and the Albert Hall gig was a huge critical and commercial success.

Her two EP's with Garibay prove she can still create music that is different but also current, maybe she doesn't feel a need to stay "down with the kids"? I adore Madonna, but she is clinging on so desperately to the yoof it's embarrassing, Kylie doesn't seem to be wanting to head down that path.

We should just be grateful these older female artists are still in the business.

i'm not a fan of xmas records so expected the worst but there were one or two half decent tracks on her album, and i enjoyed the tv special

the thing about xmas records is sales are different to normal albums, but if you get the right track you can be raking money in for decades to come, as slade and wizzard will tell you. so that album could be a good pension provider for her

unlike madonna, kylie still looks amazing and doesn't seem to have aged much, she can still dresss up and look sexy as hell. i don't agree with the age issue as it's more to do with looks if you create a certain type of music, or skill and talent if it's other types of music. if you can rely on music talent no-one cares what you look like. but acts like kylie are reliant on looks more than musical talent, so as long as she still looks good she has potential to sell. but then she also has a reasonable catalogue of hits so she could still make a living playing the hits for a while, even on nostalgia tours

if someone writes a good song for her and someone else makes a good video she can have a hit again

If Kylie wants another hit single, then she needs to release another solid gold pop song, and the song will require plenty of airplay on radio stations and music channels.

She has released so many singles in the last 18 months but none of them were much cop. They're the type of songs you hear once, then forget all about an hour later. Kylie's music videos aren't even interesting to watch too, and music videos usually boost singles. Compare the music video to Into The Blue with the video to Can't Get You Out Of My Head. One looked like it was custom made to be a worldwide smash, the other looked like it was custom made to be a flash in the pan top 20 hit.

Kylie's biggest challenge is going to be getting people who stream her music. Now that streaming makes up at least 70% of sales each week, Kylie going to #1 on iTunes for 2 hours isn't going to be enough to remain top 10 by the end of the week.

Its a flop, just like all Madonna's releases are a flop, A flop is a flop. No point in deflecting plus this is nothing to do with Madonna but since you brought Madonna up isn't her latest tour on track to become the biggest by a solo artist in history? perhaps if Kylie had any sort of chance getting close to that you may have a point but fact is she doesn't and never will so best to leave old Madge in the corner. Madonna has touring going for her, Kylie has..... nothing and the whole point of a record company releasing an album is so they can make money off a tour, Madonna's still doing that. Kylie????

Good point about streaming. Did her last single even chart?

You seem adamant to get across the supposed belief that Kylie is a "flop". When she blatantly isn't...

Her last studio album (not Xmas album) went to no.2.

True, but Kiss Me Once was such a disappointing album with no hit potential to appeal to casual music lovers.

Once the loyal fanbase buy the album upon release week, who is left to buy the album a month later? This is why having killer songs that appeal to a wider audience is key in having success.

Seriously, who was ever going to listen to I Was Gonna Cancel and think "wow, this song is going to be a massive hit"? Nobody, because it's crap. I still can't believe someone at Kylie's record label thought that was worthy of being a hit single. The levels of disillusion are right there in that very decision. Either someone at the record company hasn't a clue, or someone at the record company really wants to see Kylie fail miserably.

No wonder Kylie is struggling to do well in the charts. Then again, Kylie might be aware of this and is happy just releasing music and if something becomes a surprise hit then that's a bonus.

According to the BPI website, it was certified silver not gold. Silver certification is 60,000 records and not 120,000.

It's not about the first week chart position nowadays, but the album's actual chart run. Kiss Me Once entered the charts at #2 but it then dropped like a stone and only scanned silver. Many people would consider that a flop by a major artist like Kylie.

Just to remind everyone. Her Christmas album outsold Madonna's Rebel Heart in the UK and Australia in just 6 weeks.
Her last album (Kiss Me Once) which critics said was a flop also outsold Madonna. Don't be so quick to judge on whether something hadn't done well. Where's the criticism of Madonna (I'm a Madge fan BTW), but fair's fair eh?

She was also in the second season premiere of Galavant.

Well just from searching I found four Madonna threads filled with stuff about her flops.

However this thread was about Kylie, NOT Madonna so why is Madonna being discussed? can't you stick to the thread subject? deflecting onto the sales of another artist to justify the fact one is performing slightly better still doesn't dismiss the fact Kylie's recent output has been weak. Her last good album was in 2010. This is worthy of a discussion, Bob The Builder has one of the biggest selling singles of the early 00s, Doesn't mean it was a quality song. If you are so obsessed with Madge go start a thread on her or reply to the many flop threads there is on here about her. So stay on topic as per the forum rules. This is what annoys me about Kylie fans, they are so obsessed with Madonna, She is all they can talk about everytime Kylie is mentioned. Talk about being insecure about Kylie's place in pop.....

People always look at the Light Years/Fever era as default Kylie, but aside from that three or four year period, her career has been a litany of lacklustre albums, questionable single choices and messy promo.

It all adds up, and what she's experiencing now is just the end result of ten years of her and her management making bad decisions that started as early as Body Language. Fever was the exception rather than the rule.
