EastEnders 6:30 7.24m 31%
EastEnders 8:00 8.29m 33% Corrie 7:30 6.73m 27% Corrie 8:30 6.25m 25% Emmerdale 7:00 6.04m 25% Well done Enders. Very impressive. I reckon a lot of viewers who normally watch on catch up probably watched live. 7.2m for 6:30, out of normal slot is very good too. Interesting neither Emmerdale or Corrie got a boost in between the EastEnders episodes. |

Bloody hell. The episodes deserved the ratings. Seeing Mick save Dean was a huge shock. Keeping him alive was expected because he is a huge character, he'd definitely be a huge loss to the show if he was killed off. I just didn't expect he'd almost die, Mick would save him, then he'd be arrested.
It was a huge kick in the balls (if I had any, that is ) seeing Dean being arrested for the attempted rape of Roxy with no mention of what he did to Linda.

He can't be arrested for what he did to Linda as that case fell apart.
It was poetic justice that Linda saw him arrested for trying to do to another woman what he admitted to doing to her. I love that Mick kept him alive. Much too easy for him to die than serve his time. Also means he can come back down the line. I doubt Matt Di Angelo will reprise the role for a long time though |

The Mick v Dean tale of two warring brothers is clearly a winner & therefore DTC was right not to kill off Dean.

Last night's viewing figures were well deserved and far more than I expected. Let's hope that they can keep up the momentum with the Slaters' episodes. |

Credit were it's due it rated a lot better than I would have predicted.
I think perhaps New Years Day is the new Christmas day in terms of ratings importance. |

Goes to show it doesn't always need the Mitchells and Beales to pull in the ratings.

Eastenders has been breathtaking in the last week or so and that has been down to some great acting and writing.
Last night's episodes were fantastic. I was underwhelmed and disappointed by the Christmas day episode as I felt that the Bobby story has gone on for too long now and should have been resolved. I have liked the reintroduction of Jack, Glenda and Lucas over the last week and the reactions they have got of their respective characters Ronnie, Roxy and Dennis. Dominic Treadwell-Collins for me has done a very good job at Eastenders and feel that the soap is in safe hands with him and his team at the helm. |

What I find even more remarkable is that eastenders thrashed all competition and not just soaps, wasn't it the only program to get over 7m. I'm more surprised with the 1st episode even reached over 7m that never happens for an out of slot episode especially being on as early as it was. Hopefully they can remain over the 7m mark with all the fantastic slater drama coming up. In only a week they have gone from less than 6m to over 8m good stuff.

8.2m is a certain well done. Corrie and Emmerdale have been awful.

Well-deserved, however, I don't think ratings are any indication of quality, it's far more to do with how many people are at home with the box on, these days in a multi-media world I don't think viewing figures tell us much at all. However, having said that it does still matter in outdated T.V Executives minds which is important. Thanks

Pretty ironic. Last year, the Carter's Christmas storyline was a bit of a flop, whereas the Mitchell/Beale New Year episode was fantastic, with a huge rise in ratings. A year later, and it's the total opposite.
Last nights episodes were great. I didn't enjoy parts, such as the choice of music at the end, and the fact they didn't use their usual Thames credits, but I still enjoyed the episode(s), and it was nice to see a happy ending, after lots of drama. Mick saving Dean felt right and it was very in character. The cast has been very ensemble over the festive season. It was also great to have Glenda back for a short stint, and I look forward to more of the Lucas storyline, Jack's return later this month and of course next week's Slater episodes. Well done EastEnders, very well deserved figures.
