Our cat Alex had kittens this morning and when we looked at her to make sure she was ok there was a kitten that had died.

Alex had 2 kittens and the dead one was abiut 4 feet from where she was with the other one and that one is doing well.

The strange thing is the the dead kitten had no colour on it and its paws and feet were like stuck to its body so maybe it was already dead when it was born.

Also how long can labour last as she is still a bit fat and can feel what feels like more kittens?

Alex does not seem in any pain and is looking after the newborn with no problems.

I'm no expert in these things, but from what you say I would keep a close eye on her just in case there are more kittens and she is having difficulty giving birth. If she shows any signs of distress, I would whip her off to the vet straight away (with her kitten of course).

Isn't two a low number for a cat pregnancy?

Edit: Oh no, I just looked and apparently litter sizes are 2 to 5 on average.

She still seems ok and has been eating and drinking and being her normal self so far but will keep a eye on her overnight.

Just to give a update.

2 kittens born early hours of Saturday with 1 that had been born dead.

The other newborn is doing well and mum doing well but she still does have at least 1 kitten that has not been born yet as mum was on carpet this evening and we could see it move and now its 42 hours since the 1st kitten was born.

This does seem strange as before she gave birth on Saturday morning she let go of some water which was not wee.

She has had kittens before but not like this time.

Mum is ok and not in pain and has been eating and drinking as normal.

You need to have your cat seen by a vet. As soon as possible.

Totally agree with this. There may be a reason why the remaining kitten can't be born which could be a danger to it and mum especially if fluid was lost so many hours ago. Mum could need an emergency caesarean. But the only person who has the equipment and knowledge to say what's going on is obviously a vet Do hope all goes well. Please let us know what happens.

Why are you letting your cat have a litter of kittens let alone more than one litter, there's enough cats and kittens in the world

Well at about 3am this morning Alex gave birth to another kitten.

Both are doing well and no problems so far.

Have to say i have never heard or come across a cat giving birth then 3 days later giving birth to another kitten but have now.

Good news that Alex and kittens are doing well. I'd still get them checked over at the vet though - 3 days doesn't sound right and who knows if Alex has suffered some injuries from such a long labour.

You should seriously consider having mother (cat not yours ) neutered after this difficult birth. I would be concerned that if she got pregnant again, it could be fatal.

We agree and will be getting her done as soon as kittens stop milking from her.

You should have had your cat seen by now. Your cat has probably been in a lot of pain and distress. The possibility for problems is huge. There could be internal damage or infection. Tbh it is barbaric to leave an animal for so long when you knew there was at least one more kitten to come. Get that cat seen asap. And I agree get her spayed, it's bad enough when knowledgeable people breed their animals needlessly.

Just to update people

We took Alex and babies to the Vet this evening to get checked out and they are all ok.

Vet did say that it can happen that they are born apart but 3 days is rare.

She checked Alex out and kittens as well.

She said Alex will want lots of rest now.
