Eastenders - Baby Arthur's surname
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03ch1zv
Can Stacey give the baby someone else surname I.E the 'father' without them being presence and him not being name as father, he down as Fowler, I know you use to if you was legally wed. Baby was born in Leytonstone, is that what fictional Walford comes under? |

As i understand it, both parents have to be present for the father to be named on the birth certificate unless they are married in which case the Mother can state his name without his presence and the Father can register the birth and himself as father and wife as Mother without her presence. I imagine you need to take your marriage certificate as proof though.
As she is a widow, I imagine that stacey is perfectly able to give the baby her surname (Branning) but the father's name would have to stay blank. After all a dead man can't be the father. Unless of course he died after conception but before birth but i guess you'd need the death certificate to prove the dates on that - Sharon would have had to do that with Denny as obviously Dennis couldn't be there but was the father and no reason for him not to be named as such. Leytonstone might be the regional Registry office for the borough Walford is meant to be in - it's not far from Stratford/Walthamstow area which is about where Walford is meant to be I believe. Just to note, i couldn't view the clip so no idea what she has put down. |

I think you can call the baby whatever you want and whatever surname you want regardless of if its the dad or not
as the other poster said you can only add the father if he is there with you or if you are married he doesnt need to be there you can do it |

what I don't get is why she has gone to the trouble of callng it Fowler when she is not one and she knows the babys not one and has left the father blank.
could understand if martin had been there at the registering |

Doesn't it actually show that Stacey's place of birth was Leytonstone?
