He also appeared as a Prussian soldier (who coincidentally had pacifistic leanings) in the Danish drama 1864 on BBC Four last spring.

By the way, the "Story of Berlin" museum on Kurfürstendamm is worth a visit. The admission price includes a guided tour of a nearby nuclear bomb shelter. During the Cold War, it was meant to accomodate 3,600 West Berliners for exactly 14 days. Of course, nobody knew what to do on Day 15.

Berlin is a fascinating city and anyone interested in it's history will find this a really worthwhile watch.

If you want a taster there are short clips on YT from the dvd, but the quality is much better on the dvd.

Thanks for that. It's always interesting to see familiar things from a different perspective, so I might order the DVD.

It's well worth buying and Frei does an excellent job of presenting. It's in three parts of an hour per episode so damn good value too!

Caught up with this last night - really didn't think Alex would go that far! His 'lover' guy really know his craft in the power of suggestion.

I didn't spot that the Jackal guy died in the explosion and didn't get why Stamm even got involved with trying to the perpetrator when his reason and time for being there is crucial to his mum's operation. Oh well, yet again, it didn't stop this being a good episode.

The Jackal guy didn't die in the explosion because the bomb was already planted in the building - he was waiting for Stamm to give him the detonator which was in the coffee tin.

I think Stamm thought it was real coffee in the tin and felt guilty when he found out what it really was. If he hadn't handed the 'coffee detonator' over to the perpetrator, the building wouldn't have exploded and killed someone.

Different bomb,
the detonator was for the Jackal's next job.
Bit of a shoddy plan to blow up a bomb at the time and place you're expecting delivery of the next bits though ...

Each to their own - I loved it. So many sub-plots.

I'm enjoying it myself. Slightly far fetched in places but aren't all spy thrillers?

well it's certainly more gripping and intriguing than War and Peace on the other side. Juts one mistake in tonight's episode: Tischbier is told to have an HIV test but the test wasn't around in 1983... the first available one came along in 1985.

Thought tonight's episode was pretty tense, though Alex doing the hostage in the brothel was a bit funny tbh. Finishes next week!

Indeed.

At the end of tonight's episode the voice-over stated the finale would be next week.

Another cracking episode, will really miss this when its over. I love the archive footage they keep showing of Reagan - I wonder what he would have been like during the '9/11' / Iraq era?!

Annett is still the most fascinating character to me, there was always more to her than met the eye.

Gripping stuff. Fortunately we record each episode so we can go back and sort all the arguments out.

Best cold war spy production ever. We can't wait for next weeks revelations - and thank God, or that poor Russian chap who never pressed the button, that we're all here to talk about this series.

I may have missed something but why did Schweppenstette ask his underling to "sex up" the translation of the documents that Martin had stolen from Meyer's office??

If General Edel wasn't such a barsteward I might actually feel sorry for him.

Clearly promoted to a level of incompetence.
