I found this quite good, became attached to Moritz (as he's called) early on.
Yes he's a nervous spy, but I suppose this shows the realism of the situation, he's not going to act a pro when so inexperienced. The saving point for him is that he's young, so people around him may attribute his behaviour to being a young lad and be more inclined to overlook the jitters than say if he were an older serving man. Besides, he'll grow into the false identity sooner than he expects, I'm presuming, one, because he wants to do the job so he can get home, and two, if he doesn't succeed or tries to run again it would not end well for him.
I also wonder the longer he stays in the west the more he'll think he doesn't dislike it, or the people, as much as he originally thinks. Will it be that, walk, eat and sleep with the enemy then fall in love with it at some point too.
