Marianne Faithfull
Hi,
Are there any Marianne Faithfull fans on here? I really enjoy her music in the '60s, when she scored hit singles with 'As Tears Go By' and 'This Little Bird'. I thought she had a beautiful, crystal clear voice, and she sang both folk and pop songs in those early days. She returned to the scene in 1979 with the album 'Broken English', which contained the minor UK hit 'The Ballad of Lucy Jordan' (later used in the film 'Thelma and Louise'). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0NxhFn0szc By this time, her voice had changed dramatically due to the years of substance abuse, and I really liked it, very passionate, smoky and raw. She has continue to release albums regularly, and two years ago brought out 'Give My Love to London', which is probably my favourite to date, filled with beautiful songs, many of which she co-wrote, including 'Falling Back', with Anna Calvey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3rXgvnJqF4 |

Yes, she's very good.
An obscure favourite is "Hier Ou Demain," written especially for her by Serge Gainsbourg. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqpR47fPiFg |

She was fabulous. Sad to see how crippled she is - she walks painfully with a stick and needs to sit down for a lot of the time. But she can still pour meaning into a song with that wonderful raspy voice, and in between she was hilariously funny.
