I saw an episode being recorded at Pinewood studios yesterday. I can honestly say Richard Osman was the funniest, wittiest and knowledgeable person on either team (or the host).
Again they included one non comedian for some reason, and again, it killed several ad-lib conversations that might have gone somewhere funny. The recording took over 3 hours, and I'm sure they'll find 30 minutes of usable material, but compared to a recording of "Would I lie to you?" which I saw a while ago, the source material the editors are working with is very weak. |

I watched the for the first time on iPlayer last night; I watched episode 3 as it had Jennifer Saunders on it. I do think the show has legs and kind of works. My problem is the team captains. Josh is bearable but I cannot stand Richard Osman on panel shows, he tries so hard to be clever and funny and it's just so cringeworthy. His 'comedy' is never natural. I know he has a lot to do with commissioning and producing these shows, so I guess we're stuck with him. Stick with Pointless, Richard.
I wasn't sure what to expect from Sue as a presenter of this type of show (I haven't particularly enjoyed her on Have I Got News For You in the past) but I thought she was really good on this. |

Richard Osman is well known for hiring gag writers to create his "jokes"; without them he wouldn't be funny at all.

I presume by 'non-comedian' you mean the one not claiming to be a comedian? I have actually been finding them the most interesting and wish the BBC would avoid the poor alleged comedians who populate these panel games as they are rarely funny.

No wonder they don't sound a bit natural.

I only watched this week because the gorgeous Suzanna
Lipscomb was on it. Yum. |

He must have an amazing memory as he was making jokes and amusing comments for 3hours during the recording. Many were responses to other people's words, so his joke writers must have written several chapters of jokes to cover all eventualities.

Most of his gags are actually very weak but people seem to think they must be funny because Osman said them.

Wow. This had slipped to page 8!
I've just caught up with the episode I saw being recorded, "Dave". It was a lot better in 30 minutes than the 3 hours recording it. The opposite of when I saw Would I Lie To You being recorded, which was funnier live. You get no idea how much (or how little) each panelist contributed after the edit. They really even it out. Full marks to the editors for doing a great job. |

The last episode was by far the best in the series. I wouldn't mind watching another series of the show.
Looks like it's pretty cheap and cheerful which the beeb will like. |

It was claimed he had a team of joke writers a few posts ago. Now his jokes are "very weak". Thank you for educating me as I was under the impression he was far funnier than professional comedians that were on the same show. But what do I know, I was only there at the recording, and I'm guessing you weren't.

It is a TV programme so all that matters is whether it is funny or entertaining to the TV viewer. Too many of Osman's (and some of the others') gags have been very laboured and just not funny. The best part most weeks has been the historian guests.
Actually, I'd say quick-witted is a better description. |

I think Richard Osman is great in all he's done so far on tv. I also loved this programme and hope it returns

Out of interest, who were the people who contributed notably more or less during the full recording?
![]() As I wrote, after the edit, all guests appeared to have made a similar contribution, so they did a good job. |

IMO this show has improved weekly and I thoroughly enjoy it now! I like the way the serious panelist contributes factually and doesn't try to be funny. Sue seems to have settled down & is less nervous - I like her humour. Wasn't a great fan of Josh & Richard before but I enjoy their humour now!
hope there'll be another series |

How annoying - it's still in my Sky+ planner with a series link but it didn't recognise it. It records random episodes of Lewis and Midsomer unprompted, but something I actually want to watch...
