Connections

I wonder if you can check that these connections are ok as I need to connect some equipment for a friend later in the week. Television with 2 scart sockets, freeview with 2 scart sockets, dvd player and video. Is it correct to connect the dvd player to 1 scart in the tv, the freeview to the other scart in tv and the video to the spare scart on the freeview box. I think this is how I did one before but have a memory like a sieve, any other suggestions appreciated

I would connect the DVD to the Freeview and then the Freeview to the TV AV1 (which will be RGB I presume.)

Then just connect the VCR to the TV AV2. (The VCR will not benefit from being on AV1 as it is not RGB.)

........but he will want to be able to record FV wont he? with this set up you have to record through the TV scart which means only recording what you are viewing cant watch DVD while recording FV).

Your original set up is far better for flexibility. Ensure that, if the VCR has 2 scarts, that you connect the Fv box to VCR AV2 (this will be in/out).

Connect your DVD player to the TV AV2 scart using Svideo. This will give you a really good picture nearly as good as RGB (which you are using for FV) but better than composite.

You will be able to watch the DVd while recording from FV.

Thanks for your help I did reply earlier but the post has gone missing somewhere (possibly cyberspace). I thought that was the way to do it as I have a vague recollection of doing it this way before but it's an age thing, memory isn't what it was

Actually, no he wouldn't. He could record via RF (that is, of course if the FV box had an RF modulator - not sure if it does, not all of them do).

But yes, I stand corrected. I might have known it'd be you to pick me up on this one, Scorp!

Sorry, Skiller, didnt mean to be picky, lol!

You, too, are correct - RF can be used for recording FV.

Right I've run into problems with this, I connected the DVD via scart to AV1 on TV and connected Freeview box to AV2 on TV, I then connected Video on AV2 on video to VCR Scart on Freeview box, I can get everything to work except the video, no playback and I can't see the video through the tv to check the channels, any ideas where I go from here, I've nearly pulled my hair out, I've got the same set up here and it works ok, would it be anything to do with the make of set, it's a Sony TV and Video on Smartlink, If you've no suggestions I'll just have to start from scratch tomorrow, also I tried the other option of plugging the DVD into the 2nd scart on Freeview sound and no picture, any help greatly appreciated

It sounds like the VCR socket on the FV box is output only. Normally, these are in/out to allow a passthrough fo a VCR back to the TV.

Can you check with the manual of the FV box.

Scorp.
