Olympic gold battle between Justin Rose and henrik Stenson reaching its conclusion just now

Crowd are clearly not familiar with golf etiquette though

Well done Justin a good winner and a big name winner for the event going forwards.

Rose always speaks well and will praise the virtues of it over the next few years.

If I had been unknown winning it not so sure it would have featured in 2020

Over the moon for Justin. It's been a dream of his for years.

Poor form from the others not going under the pretence of health reasons.

I still think matchplay format would be a better idea if it's to stay in the Olympics long term.

Couldn't they have cobbled together a three player team format with a fourball, foursomes and three singles matches - and run the golf over 2 weeks. It would have made it a special event, not just another tour event - but with no prize money.

Well done Justin Rose for bringing home the gold - but in this format I'd still question what golf is doing in the olympics.

You would actually have time to run 4 x 4 day events, two stroke play and two matchplay events, for each gender.

Only issue would be slotting it into the overall golf calendar.

Lucas Glover missed a putt for a 59 on the PGA Tour tonight.

Last time I seen him he had a horrendous case of the yips, guess he's got through it.

Who do you think will get the three wildcard picks for the European Ryder Cup team

I think he will pick

Martin Kaymer
Lee Westwood

And either

Russell Knox or Graeme McDowell

But i think he might pick Shane Lowry

I think he'll pick the two you went for plus Knox. Two reasons, he's in good form and would have easily made the team if he had taken a European Tour card out before his WGC win.

I know he's a rookie but that isn't much a deal to me. He plays on the US Tour against most of the US team on a regular basis. It's not like he's someone who has barely played outside Europe and amassed a load of points with good placings in small European Tour events.

Luke Donald seems to be in contention for the third pick.

Russell Knox would be a bit pissed off if true

Dont tell me they are going for experience

I know Russell Knox would be pissed off, but what about Thomas Pieters who has played fantastic for most of the season, also the last few weeks, and won three tournaments

Donald has come from nowhere. I don't think he's done enough personally and think still think Westy, Kaymer and Knox. Pieters will just miss out.

Donald may not be in the greatest form but with 5 rookies already in the team it may not be a bad shout to put him in with Westwood and Kaymer. His Foursomes record is superb too.

Still think Knox would have been better choice given its in America this year.

I'm glad that Darren hasn't picked someone purely due to experience but who is out of form. I hadn't seen much of Thomas Pieters until the Olympics but he is obviously on form. We will just have to see how the rookies do.

Well done to all three making the team. Being Scottish I'm gutted for Knox but happy with the three. I would of been raging if Donald sneaked in

This is the most inexperienced team in years, you fear the worst but somehow the always pull it out the bag.

One of my early concerns is that Clarke won't have the bottle to drop Mcilroy he will play every game despite being out of form for most of the year

He might though, he's already avoided picking Donald as a wildcard.
I think Mcilroy will feature in the fourballs but might be missing in the twoball. Imagine a Mcilroy and Pieter's partnership. sounds great.
I'd be more worried about Danny Willett's form than Rory

Matchplay is different though. Look how well Poulter did in 2012 despite not playing particularly well beforehand.

Danny Willet has rarely been seen in a leaderboard since Augusta

Switzerland this week he is the defending champion .

Why did Danny Willet join the PGA tour but not play any events outwith the normal majors and wgc events
