Indeed, Dustin held himself together superbly there. I must admit to finding some of the golf rules ridiculous and unfair but at least I expect them to be enforced quickly and clearly. This was a farce but at least Dustin won by enough shots to make it a technicality.

Well done Dustin. Thought it was going to be Whistling Straights all over again.

Considering that the incident occurred at the 5th hole, how did it take until the 12th tee before someone started to question it?

What's more ridiculous to me is the fact that he did get the one shot penalty in the end as well.

he had to accept the one shot penalty as no ruling had been made

if he had signed his card without adding the penalty and it was subsequently applied then he would have been disqualified for signing for a score at a hole lower than he achieved

its a bit weird considering the timeline but thats how the rules work

Another citing Zika, does anybody really believe that is the real reason they are pulling out?

I think adding Golf to the Olympics was a big mistake, it's pretty clear most of the big players just don't want to be bothered with it.

So why don't they just say that, or "It doesn't fit with my schedule"?

When Zika is properly established in Florida, which it is likely to be before the year is out, I wonder if those golfers including Rory who are resident there will up sticks and move? That'll be the true test.

I don't think he ever wanted to represent Ireland or felt comfortable parading behind the tricolour and perhaps felt he had been pressurised into it.

I think if it was a case of maintaining neutrality he wouldn't have made himself available in the first place. He isn't the only high profile player to pull out, I suspect to them it's just another tournament clogging up the schedules.

And which won't pay and where they'll likely end up having to wear golfing apparel made by a competitor company to that they've got a deal with.

Put simply, the olympic golf gold is not the pinnacle of golfing achievement.

If a gold medal isn't the pinnacle of achievement in a sport then it shouldn't be in the Olympics.

Jason Day really threw this away by the looks of it. Double bogey 7 on the 16th and needs to birdie both of the closing two holes to force a playoff. Scott Piercy in the same position.

Otherwise it'll be back to back wins for Dustin Johnson!

Anyone think Monty could do well at the Open? He played well in qualifying and Troon is his home course.

Is anyone going?

I got a couple of comps through the door for the Scottish Open earlier in the week. No idea why I got them and couldn't have went at short notice.

I'm working at the Open for a couple of days, have a media pass for the whole week so will probably pop in a few times as it's only 10 mins away.

Would be a brave man to bet against DJ next week.

St Andrews is another that's not great for viewing. Castle Stuart looks a nice course though.

Food's never cheap at these events, never very nice either.

I wonder what the excuse would have been if Zika hadn't broken out. Strange it only seems to effect golfers.😷
