~~~~ Gleb Savchenko Appreciation Thread ~~~~
Please bring here your appreciations for the Glebster as a dancer and personality. Fortunately for his fans the Glebster is keen on social media and so there will be lots of news and handsome moments to follow, post and discuss.
My appreciation is thus: When Gleb joined SCD last series I warmed to him slowly. What won me over was his rather subversive humour that we saw in odd moments. This, combined with his good looks, secured my appreciations. I hope he returns to SCD and feel confident that he'll be invited to return. |
Nice place you've got here, Maggie
![]() I'm just here for the pictures, not going to lie...I particularly appreciate casual, tousled Gleb: http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/...51_634x669.jpg |
Gleb has been one of my small joys of Strictly this time. Well, big joy really.
I loved his dry wit, his uncanny ability to find the nearest and best camera angle, the way he performed only on his terms, his unashamed vanity, and most of all his ability to provide sheer entertainment. I sometimes wished that we'd seen more of the flirty charming Gleb that he shows on DWTS but there were glimpses, and in a way I think he played his first season her pretty well. Oh and his looks don't hurt either . He's like a big, beautiful exotic cat and I adore him. His only fault is that I often found myself watching him rather than his partner, but hey, that's only natural and I did like Anita very much too. There are many of their dances I return to but I think my favourite is their samba as I know I'll be watching again and again, it always cheers me up. |
Thanks for the thread Maggie! I'll definitely be stopping by often
As for why I love Gleb, well Pretzel pretty much said it all. I really hope he's back this year (it's looking good I think). I was shocked at just how much the final missed him and Anita. I really felt there presence was needed. Just goes to show what an impact they made on the show this series.
I'm very glad that peeps have found the thread and are posting. Here is a photo of a very young and pretty Gleb: http://img.poptower.com/pic-111898/g...enko.jpg?d=600
He looks quite different in some ways but I like the predatory look in his eyes. |
I have to say I have been converted during the course of the show, I didn't take to him in the beginning. But boy, how I want him to come back, if anything just to bring good ol' Len in hives again! I think the reason I didn't like him much in the beginning is because he is so unique, there isn't anyone remotely similar to him and that took me some time to "sink in". I always have a laugh when I remember Claudia going after him "Glebby, Glebby!" with those fake handcuffs!
I don't think he takes himself seriously at all, and how can you not love a straight man who admits publicly on Twitter that his favourite film of all time is Dirty Dancing? That is a man after my own heart
Thanks for making the thread!
Gleb won me over not for his pretty face but for everything else he brought to Strictly. I'd known him as the pretty boy on DWTS and didn't expect much else from him on SCD. I enjoyed all his and Anita's dances because of the drama and entertainment he made sure to add to it all. I also love the way he really seems to love dancing. I think he's probably not the best dancer of the male pros, but he's still so entertaining. I loved when he and the other male pros danced a bit with Kylie Minogue. He was smiling from ear to ear and seemed to be loving it so much. On the more shallow side, I think I appreciate his physique more than his face--tall, not overly muscular, and those upper arms! |
Yes, I missed them so much in the final. I've been watching these kind of shows for years and years now, but I can't remember the last time an eviction or dance off or whatever you want to call it upset me as much Anita and Gleb getting kicked off Strictly. I had a real lump in my throat and I really feel we were robbed of the final we should have had. In fact it would have been the perfect final had they been there, with all the right couples in it(when was the last time that happened? Lol).
My favourite Anita/Gleb dance ignoring it as an AT
: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ks_ayIRg7_M Loved the way both look, their chemistry and Gleb all stern and armed with a baton.My favourite Gleb look (I'm a sucker for long hair): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSRLZmuJqCU |
Exactly. I think his image makes a lot of people write him off as a vain twit and they don't see the guy who loves cheesy movies and campy dances.
![]() ![]() I think Anita is so serious, she's lovely but serious She was very keen to stay professional and reminded everyone at the start that she's married, the curse would never get her etc. Actually she did relax more towards the end and grew to love dancing, but it might explain why you never saw a more flirty side to Gleb. Maybe if he a celeb who was more suseptable to that kind of thing you'd get it again. |
Maybe if he a celeb who was more suseptable to that kind of thing you'd get it again. Haven't seen a lot of DWTS but I hope we see more of this side to Gleb. I love his naughtiness at the start of this. Also, as some have said, he's not the greatest technical dancer, no. But perhaps it says something about me and what I like about Strictly, I don't know, but I don't care that he's not the absolute best. All I know is I'll watch the sh*t out of his dances over someone else doing one which is technically perfect. Because there's something about Glebs enthusiasm and joi de vivre in Gleb on the dancefloor which is far more appealing than some of the others. I always looked for him in the group dances. Of course his looks help, yep, but like someone said about dancing with Kylie- I posted at the time that he and Giovanni were about neck and neck as to who was having the most fun in that routine and it was great to watch. |
I'm interested in your changed opinion of him from DWTS to SCD. What do you think makes the difference?
On DTWS he was a newbie and didn’t last long, so he didn’t have much chance to make an impression there. There’s also such a hierarchy there—if you’re not a Hough/Ballas/Chmerkovskiy, it’s hard to make a mark and they don’t give new pros such a big push, and they certainly didn’t make a big deal of Gleb. I remember them making a bigger deal of his name (strange to American ears, I guess) than of his looks. I remember thinking at the beginning of the SCD series that he seemed to be a bit changed—less giddy, more serious—and committed to making an impression as a choreographer/dancer. Maybe because he was coming off Russian DWTS where he’d been able to let his imagination go wild and didn’t want to settle for being an early boot again like in the US and Australia. Maybe being a bit older and experienced he had a good game plan. |
Oh, are we doing favourite dances/looks?
Because I really really liked him in this one, oh yes. Yep, for the obvious, but also because I am a big fan of Pedro Almodóvar films and this whole routine is so like them that after seeing that I like to think that Gleb is too. |
Thank you! I enjoyed the end shot; funny guy. Also, interesting to read your perceptions of Gleb in DWTS compared with SCD. I hope he continues to demand attention as a dancer and choreographer on SCD.Quote:
