She is Russian born in Kazakhstan, which was formerly part of the Russian Empire and then of the Soviet Union. When the USSR ended, 25 million Russians found themselves abroad. She moved to Russia with her parents at age 9 and then to US when she was 13.
Aliona=Elena=Lena, a typical Russian name. I remember when everyone was congratulating Zoe she said her happy birthday in russian. I think in the family they spoke native language even living the US, so she kept it .

Yes, it's called Dancing and the stars, the premiere was on February 6-7th. Girls are the ex-contestants of previous series of DWTS (but none from last year), plus the pro dancers. Elena is the main choreographer and participates in one of the routine.
