Watching 2.40.1 ratio films via usb stretched

Well my sony tv & blu ray works ok but not on my 2000T. I emailed Humax support and they say it only supports 4:3 and 16:9. I like watching it via my 2000T as it has a resume where you left off. So how come it does not support it?

Because 4:3 and 16:9 are the only aspect ratios needed by TV.

Generally I find that devices will only support files on memory sticks that have formats that are needed for the device's primary function. So (e.g.) Blu-ray players will play MP4s but DVD players will not.

On the Humax change the screen aspect to 4:3 and the display format within 4:3 to letterbox 16:9and its very almost correct ratio on a 16:9 TV.

The point is that previous boxes worked correctly. You could set the output aspect ratio to 4x3 at 14x9 and set zoom on the TV and you got a very watchable picture with a little bit off the edges and only a small black band at the top and bottom. This worked perfectly with my old 9200T. I foolishly bought a new 2000T to find out that the aspect ratio settings were all balls - they just don't do what they say they do even though the screen size thingy at the bottom suggests that they do. Apparently some people took them back for a refund as they didn't do what it say on the tin.

I recently bought a new Samsung TV and fortunately I now have a workaround as the new TV has a "custom" setting where I can b*gger around to my heart's content with width and height. I just needed something with a circle on it to get the proportions right for which I used a home brew DVD of all the various test cards!

There are some pedants out there who say that should watch a 2.4:1 as it comes but personally I don't like watching "slot vision" on my TV - I like the screen filled or nearly so.

The TV companies used to "pan live" on Cinemascope in the old days of 4x3. They can't even be bothered now to do a bit of cropping on a 2.4:1 to make it more watchable.
