Confirmed in a Metro article today😢 She is, without a doubt, one of the show's strongest actors and has been sublime in many storylines throughout the years. Sadly, however, the writers let her character down from the moment they had Peter inexplicably cheat with Tina- a disastrous plot that ruined Tina, Peter and turned Carla into a weak mess. I know that Carla has fallen out of favour with many forum members on here due to the constant misery the writers heap on her, but King will be a massive loss to the show, nonetheless.

Alison is a superb actress and I've always been surprised by the fact she stuck with Corrie for as long as she did. I look forward to seeing her in different roles, I think she is set for a good post Corrie career.

I disagree while you're probably suggesting Linda Block and Carla Conner are similar characters the level of emotions that soaps produce from an actor will always cause a cross over.

I'm sure Alison will be guest starring in the likes of Call The Midwife in no time where she can then show a different type of range.

I always thought Corrie did an own goal when they made Carla an alcoholic, Alison is the leading lady type and really had the potential to be a Rovers landlady.

She would have been a damn sight better than the dreaded Michelle Collins.

Its funny because back in the day I remember there being rumours in the press EastEnders wanted her to be Chrissie Watts!

I can't say I am not pleased. Don't get me wrong, I liked the character especially around 2010 to 2012, but am fed up with her now. Best of luck to Alison King though.

It's so hard to believe that it's almost ten years since she joined the show. Sadly, I reckon we'll also lose the equally talented Paula Lane this year; Callum won't stay buried forever...

I really hope the writers devise a decent exit for her, preferably one where she leaves the cobbles with her head held high after all Carla's traumas. I'd also like to see some of her history being revisited when she goes. I would have her stop for one final visit at Liam's grave and pay a touching goodbye to him, before departing for her new life.

Wow, such a huge loss for corrie. The cast that's left is getting weaker and weaker

Doubt she'll get anything bigger then Corrie

Sad that we've already lost a fine actress in Eileen Derbyshire this year- I'm not convinced that was a temporary exit.

She'll visit his grave and go "blimey, my cousin was the love of my life"

For those of us who've suffered enough over the ten years

I have never known such a dislikeable character. With a painful voice.

What happend to the days when the Corrie stars stayed for decades....Who'll be around in the next 20 years

I bet Robert Preston will leave around this time. Probably the next bad guy to target Carla or something.

I wish Robert would bugger off. The character just isn't working for me, largely due to Tristan Gemmill's wooden acting. I just couldn't buy into his reunion with Tracy last year, and her bleating on about him being the true love of her life, despite not seeing him, or even mentioning him in 12 years.

Ten years is a great run by modern standards. I never had Alison King pegged as a lifer.

Very true. Out of the current cast in Hollyoaks how many have been there ten years plus? Six/ seven at most?

Most characters in Coronation Street always act like their new lover is there love of their life.

The only bloke I have liked with Tracy was Rob Donovan, and they axed him. Looking at clips of them they worked well and it is crazy how they chose to make him a killer and write him out.

Well that's one less reason for me to bother returning to Coronation Street as a viewer -best actress in the show playing a fascinating engaging character.

I remember her dream team stint, I think Alison is fab and I am sad it's permanent but she has the talent to do other things.

In terms of Carla, well I feel Corrie have ruined her a bit, esp recently and she is so over used that its probably good she is going before they completely ruin her.

I really enjoyed the build up and the initial niceness of Carla and Nicks relationship, best one she has had

I am gutted I only hope shel come back in a couple years! No doubt corrie strongest actress! Going to miss her sassy amazing acting and portrayal of Carla connor!

I read somewhere eastenders wanted to steal her - can you imagine at least she would probably play a softer Character

Carla's character has been butchered the last few months, so can't say I'm sad to see her go. She hasn't been the same since Peter cheated on her with Tina; it's been misery after misery.

I'm not saying the rape storyline wasn't depressing, but it showed a different side to her and presented a proper challenge to the actress. Going on a bender, necking red wine and gambling your profits away is tiresome.

In terms of acting ability, that's as big a loss as Corrie can expect. If Jane Danson decides to call it a day, TBTB should be quaking. They should be doing all they can to keep Leanne and Roy, for starters giving them proper storylines.
