that's basically what she said, she meant to do four years and has done ten, wants to play other characters and spend time with her daughter

And what a surprise, he's done the same to Carla.”

Same goes for Michelle. In EVERYONE's business, standing there, arms folded, eyes rolling around in her head. Dreadful.

DS have just reported on it now: http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coro...er-people-now/

Whilst King will be a significant loss to the show, we have to remember that she's part of a large ensemble. Pat Phoenix, Violet Carson, Doris Speed, Jean Alexander, Julie Goodyear, Sarah Lancashire, Amanda Barrie, Suranne Jones, Katherine Kelly etc. are just some of the brilliant actresses who were seen as leading ladies at the forefront of the show who departed, and the show moved on. Corrie is a vehicle that has to keep on the move in the event of a big exit. It will survive Alison King's departure, as well as other exits that might seem like the end of the world.”

Very well said boogie woogie there are plenty of other great characters on Corrie who just need good quality writing to shine!! Also the show has carried on just fine without her when she's had breaks in the past!!
Personally I'm ok either way, if she decides she would like to return sometime then fine, I think Ali is a good enough actress to come back with a rejuvinated Carla & be a great character again, given some better writing, but equally if she decides never to come back the show will swiftly move on, other characters/ actors will fill the big s'/l's and Corrie will survive as it has always done!!

Rather embarrassing for Corrie that they released a statement initially saying it was a break when all the time it wasn't. Clearly they were concerned about the bad press surrounding the number of actors leaving the show.

Oh and Carla has been destroyed as a character through overexposure, just as Tina was. Blackburn never learns from his mistakes. What's the betting that Carla will be dramatically killed off during BGT week? I for one hope they give Carla a happy ending. She deserves it after everything she's been through.

I agree.”

Instantaneously upon reading those sweet, sweet words, 'Carla's leaving for good', I was hearing the Ode to Joy in my head. Au revoire Cruella, you eternal boring old bat

It's hilarious the way people project their own views onto the cast and crew, often without even reading the articles by the look of it.

I find Carla totally boring and I'd be more pissed off if we were to lose Tracey or Amy.

Bearing in mind how long Eileen has been there I think the show would have milked a permanent exit with a big story and party and her going off to live with Spider.

Not necessarily. Carla for ranks with Becky McDonald. Good character at the start but ended up being a story hogging self pitier.

The departure will be good for other actresses in the show as it means they may finally get a storyline.

How do people think Carla will leave the show?

I agree. The spotlight will simply be thrown onto someone else now. The programme will miss Alison King's talents far more than it'll miss Carla the character. There's nothing special or unique about her.

It's the same reason Hayley left a bigger hole than Tina when she left.

Aren't they leaving the door open? So they wont kill her. Probably just run off to LA or something although I hope it's a better exit than that. Maybe her feud with Tracy will lead to something big. Someone ending up in prison or something

That just sums up the Blackburn era doesn't it....embarrassing.

Is it just a coincidence that many actors ave departed under Blackburn? The same happened with EE under Newman. Poor storylines and writing, there is only so much time you can put up with that. Butchery of your character.

I too hope she exits on a high, and I hope Kate Oates can get her hands on Carl's exit storyline and give her a big hurrahh. But leave the door open for a return.

I have said all along that it's permanent. She spoke of doing other work and to do that she would need to be out of contract with ITV. A break is when they have some idea of when the actor will be back.

I can't say I'll miss the exhausted character of Carla. I only dip in and out and even I feel drained by her. Alison King is a decent, if overrated, actress and it wouldn't surprise me if her repetitive material of late has sent her running for the hills. There might be nothing more to it than what's been reported but I just can't see how she could be happy with the direction the once brilliant Carla has taken. It is a huge loss to the show as she is still popular with viewers. Even Carla at her worse is far preferable to the dud new Connors who'll be lording it over the factory in her absence.

There is no end in sight for Corrie even with this news. Even if it doesn't show a marked improvement it's got a degree of viewer loyalty that will keep it going for years yet. It's got a lot of problems though and the increasingly diluted cast is right up there. Only yesterday another bland-sounding newbie was announced connected to the rancid Nazirs. Corrie's always thrived on having a large collection of legendary characters and this is being depleted often now. It's not easy to rectify that problem and every newbie they introduce ranging from bland to god-awful isn't helping. They brought Dennis back and totally wasted him. I expect Oates will do a Collinson and throw everything but the kitchen sink at it but it's just papering over cracks.

Michelle has never worked (IMO) yet has lasted ten years. With her limited acting ability/experience and this being stunt casting in the first place, don't think Kym Marsh would risk going anywhere. Shame.

The door has been left open, so I doubt she'll die! Hopefully they'll giver her a good ending and she won't end up preggers!! But yet there will more than likely heartbreak for Narla fans.... Unless Ben price is leaving too!!

It never ceases to amaze me how Michelle has survived over the past ten years. Whilst the character has been more tolerable of late, Steve's absence has really highlighted how superfluous a character Michelle really is. Now that Carla is going, that'll further diminish her purpose on the street, other than standing behind the bar at the Rovers with her arms folded, Michelle does little else.

It's such a shame that Kate Oates isn't starting work on Corrie this month. At least then we'd be guaranteed that by the time Alison King films her final scenes in May, a decent exit story for Carla could play out during the summer.

Gargantuan loss for Corrie, which has left me quite shocked.

It's survived a lot worse to be honest & it will again!!

I don't see it being that big an issue as she has spent sizeable chunks of time away on several occasions over the last few years!!

What I would say is her exit, along with a new producer probably around the same time would be a great time to re evaluate the factory, along with most of the Street's businesses & bring it/them more in line with the 21st century!!
The factory under Carla has been a standing joke for several years now!!

I'm just being melodramatic ndd You know what I'm like.

You're absolutely right - if Corrie can survive the loss of the likes of Elsie, Ena, Annie and Hilda then it can survive losing Carla Connor.

The question is in what state will Corrie survive.
