Carla needed a break urgently but it's sad to Corrie losing one of their best actresses.

I'm assuming Corrie won't learn from their mistakes and the spotlight will permanently shift onto Paula Lane who already has a lot of screen time already and her self pity is already getting boring.
It's also irritating how Corrie releases an exit a year before it actually happens. I agree though her exit will probably be during BGT week.

I think she was meant to leave sooner but extended her contract

Paula's contract is up in the summer, Paula is gonna have to go at some point due to Kylie killing Callum. the secret of him being dead is not going to stay buried for long given that everytime Kylie, David and Sarah are on screen they have a conversation about it. will only take nosey norris listening in once and then gossiping to out the killing

Tracy is still around in the street so she could be on the street for a while yet, much like Carla every scene she is in seems to be a repeat of her last scene.

I'm just being melodramatic ndd You know what I'm like.

You're absolutely right - if Corrie can survive the loss of the likes of Elsie, Ena, Annie and Hilda then it can survive losing Carla Connor.

The question is in what state will Corrie survive.
Haha, now there IS a question!!!

I'm not sure how savvy Kate Oates with Corrie's history, I think she has worked on it before, but it is a lot different to Emmerdale & long term Corrie fans won't thank her for turning it into a hotbed of affairs, murder, kidnap & mayhem as ED currently seems to be!!
Having said that, as you yourself have pointed out on many occasions, just how much control will she, or any new producer have as long as Kieran Roberts remains as 'the man upstairs'

Regarding the factory, I have little faith in the new batch of Connors as being the future of it!! Aidan is an ok character but he is never going to have the charm & charisma Liam had, Johnny is a neanderthal & going back to Aidan, I'm no Alan Sugar but are big business deals really decided by ping pong tournaments these days??
I think the time is right to call time on the Connor era at the factory & bring in a charismatic new character to reinvent the place, preferrably someone with ties to the Street, maybe a Tanner or as someone, maybe yourself, suggested recently a son of Charlie Stubbs which we would only find out about over time (this idea was actually covered by our own Chrissy2005 in his excellent fanfiction Corrie just last year)!

Whatever happens post Carla 2016 is an important year for the show!! Another year like 2015 & even my optimism would be stretched beyond it's limit!!

How about recasting the young Baldwin lad who was sacked

Not sure which one that was!

Of Danny's two sons,Jamie didn't really have what it takes to run a factory & Warren, the footballer was plain awful!! The one you may be thinking about could be either of Mike's other sons Mark or Adam (Barlow)!!
Either of these as a recast could probably work, especially Adam as he did gain some experience in there & obviously has strong Barlow connections!!

So the end of this great character will be a 5 minute roll-around with some random (Robert). I do hope Allie comes back in the future, she's been one of the best actors of the past 10 years.

OUCH!!!!

Craig Charles, Katy Kavanagh, Peter Gunn & Alison King all gone in the space of a year -
Ryan Thomas ready to quit as well - Corrie keeps on losing it's most vital figures, the future belongs to Shayne Ward and it ain't pretty.

I will miss Carla - I like the way Ms King always played the part with just a flicker of camp rather than a great big dollop of it, something which other cast members ought to have learned from but I won't name names (ostentatiously clears throat - 'ShaunNessaTraceyBarlow')

Radical suggestion - If Carla leaves, why not shut down Underworld all together? It's various disasters have become tiresome, the staff take endless tea breaks and trips to the pub and every order seems to get screwed up in some way. What do they actually make apart from dodgy looking rags that no one in their right mind would wear. Er...not that I'm an expert on ladies undergarments.

The show is always straining for topicality so how about showing how certain characters cope with unemployment? Also, I'm not that keen on al these new Connors who've arrived -
Aidan seems to have longer eyelashes then any of the women in the factory and as for Johnny, you don't create a believable middle-aged character just by showing him as mildly confused by the invention of e-mails.

I agree that all the Connors can just go now that Carla is, they were obviously only brought in for this paternity storyline. But no doubt they'll be kept in order to keep some of the family on the Street.

Can't say I'm sad at the news, they rung every drop out of the character and she's being going around in circles for a long time.

Ah, Coupling.

Alison sounds so normal, break will do her good! That horrible, nasally Orville voice must really stretch the vocal chords by the end of a working week.

A major blow for Corrie.

The show is in a right state.
Kate Oates has her work cut out.

When is she leaving? (so I can count down the months )

BGT week by chance?!

I also hope this exit gives other actresses a chance to shine.

Think I read somewhere she had extended her contract until May

I agree. It's laughable people think the show is going to suddenly collapse because Carla is leaving. She has been absent before (although on breaks) and the programme survived just fine. Maybe this will mean other characters will have a chance to shine and get something instead of the same lot always being used.

Peter Gunn doesn't count as he was only brought back for a brief return for Julie's exit, he left properly in 2013 and Brian is hardly a character who was a loss to the show. And it won't surprise me if Craig Charles returns at some point in the next year or two (but don't hold me to that).

But I agree, the factory needs shut down and get rid of the gobshites that work there. It is annoying with their constant gossiping, tea breaks and doing nothing. Maybe it is time Corrie did an unemployment storyline, and I don't mean a character doesn't work for 1 episode before suddenly being employed at the Bistro or something.

Ah, you see I loved the way Julie and Brian played off each other. I think they would have made a really entertaining married couple, not like the Ogdens or the Duckworths but certainly the Wiltons.

They do seem to be making it easy for us to dislike Carla, and therefore let her go .

I've always been a fan of Alison King's portrayal. Her character's latest incarnation as a teen-in-a-tantrum with daddy issues would be an unworthy end to a great Corrie career. Even her trademark move of snatching up that massive handbag before stalking off is looking more petulant than grande dame.

Hope she has one of her 'sudden realisation' moments soon.

Carla's character has been butchered the last few months, so can't say I'm sad to see her go. She hasn't been the same since Peter cheated on her with Tina; it's been misery after misery.

I'm not saying the rape storyline wasn't depressing, but it showed a different side to her and presented a proper challenge to the actress. Going on a bender, necking red wine and gambling your profits away is tiresome.

In terms of acting ability, that's as big a loss as Corrie can expect. If Jane Danson decides to call it a day, TBTB should be quaking. They should be doing all they can to keep Leanne and Roy, for starters giving them proper storylines.
I can see both Jane Danson and Paula Lane calling it a day. I omagine David Neilson will stay at Roy. Kate Ford won't ever leave again, because she won't get work anywhere else.

I didn't mind Julie and Brian either, but unfortunately Brian was really underused (which is typical of the Corrie writers) so he ended up being axed. They could have done more with them but didn't. Katy Cavanagh is also a good actress but was also wasted by making Julie too silly at times.

Maybe one day they will return, as long as the writers bother giving them some material.

I can still see Jane Danson sticking around, she has been with the show for a long time now. But Paula Lane is more than likely, especially after the whole killing Callum debacle. Plus she has been in the show five and a half years. I must admit I would be truly gutted if she left, as I like her and David.
