Channel 5 hit a new low last night...of course I did not agree with his views...but like many people out there I felt sorry for the way he was stitched up by a desperate TV channel that will resort to anything to try and get there numbers up.

I think this has backfired on them as well as Emma and Rylan.

I only really come on here for BB news and reactions.

Has there been adverse reaction on the likes of Twitter or other forums or is it all just as normal?

Dd he raise the comment in the house? NO BIG BROTHER DID!!

The whole situation was manufactured by Big Brother and anyone who can't see that truly has their heads in the clouds.”

I agree. We have to remember that Winston's behaviour was questionable in some respects before that quiz, but it was that quiz which was the headline making situation, and it was that which BB focused on.

BB made it appear as though Winston did something really bad in the house by the way they put him on trial. But like you say this had nothing to do with what he said or did in the BB house. This was dredged up from 2012, and shortly afterwards around the same time Winston himself said that he regretted using that particular term and publicly retracted his comment.

It was said and done, dealt with, history. But BB themselves decided to resurrect it, not Winston.

I guess that was BB's way of getting the ball rolling and already ensuring that an initial negative perception was created before they went in for the kill.

Don't forget that the VTs are heavily edited as well.
BB also choose what is shown in the VTs. If in their opinion something is unacceptable to say then why are they deciding to broadcast it in a situation where they create the VTs in the first place?

When you watch the VTs closely you'll see how rapid and frequent the editing is. There is obviously somebody present asking them loaded questions so that they get the desired VT that they want.
The VT is as much of a manufactured situation as the quiz was.

3. He was also asked about his behaviour towards the women in the house which was just as bad

If someone chooses to go on the show - they have a reason to do so and if he thought that he could exploit it he has done so although as he kept saying it is the public who decide and if it hadn't have come up this week I am sure he would not have been able to have contained himself much longer and he would have been booted off for either his attitude or views very soon.”

How do you know? The contestants don't make the VTs themselves and are alone filming themselves. There is obviously somebody off camera getting the person to say what they want them to say for the VT.

It's naive to think that the presentation of the VTs is any less controlled than the actual show. They're all a part of the artiface involved in creating an initial perception of the characters.

We see this every year when people in the house are not quite how their VT depicts them as, and when in the house are sometimes accused of being fake because their personality in the house doesn't match the perceived personality in the VT. As if their VT is the real them by which everything else should be judged by.

The VTs are so obviously a construct themselves.

If you're outraged at Winston's comment, then you should be 1000 times more outraged by Big Brother for reiterating it for their own publicity gain, did the housemates storm off the show in protest? Oh no, they loved ganging up on the patsy though, nice easy target for popularity points.
Big Brother has been fixing the results for several years now, I'm sure the management make some hefty betting profits behind the scenes for their controversial winners, not that Winston would ever have been allowed to win, but this is just another example of their blatant manipulation and patronization of the public, the sad thing is that it works on so many. I hope they get caught and fined big or banned from TV, but I can't see how they will be.
