I know, right? If I'd have had the choice to pick parents I actually would have chosen a gay couple.... Elton John & David Furnish to be precise... KER-CHING!!! £££££

He's saying it's mentally cruel to deprive a child of having a mother or father.

A lot of people do think that where there is a choice as to what homes children should be adopted into that a home where there is a mother and father is the preferred option. There are people that believe adoption by a gay couple or a single person is not the best choice where there is the option of a mother and a father available.

All things being equal i.e. the amount of love, money and all that jazz being equal amongst all prospective adoptive parents, I'd hazard a guess that a fair few giving up their children for adoption would prefer a Mum and Dad for their child rather than a single mum/dad or a gay couple. Some people do feel that it's good to have a gender balance in parenting. People can say until they are blue in the face that it shouldn't matter but you can't change what some people feel in their hearts/minds and I think it's wrong to not let people admit that they feel like that and have people suppress what they truly feel in order to be politically correct.

Saying what he said about it being child abuse is disgusting but if a woman giving up her baby said she'd like a Mum and Dad, if possible, for her child I would understand her wanting that.

This is also what I thought he was trying to say, that he believes children should have a mother and father.

if he had said the ideal is for every child to have a mother and father, especially a mother. i would agree with him. but he's bad at wording things, made himself look stupid.

Surely it's more mentally cruel to stop a child from having a loving home because of the beliefs of someone else.

It's the kids who have gay parents who I feel most sorry in situations. I'd hate to constantly see people speaking for me that they think I shouldn't have the parents I do. When they don't know me or my parents.

Also, and I don't know how many times I have to reiterate this. Studies have shown children with gay parents are no more at a disadvantage than children with heterosexual parents.

Why do you think having a mother is more important than having a father ?

Hiding behind his religion to spout his outdated, discouraging. hateful views not cool.

I know many Christians and not one of them would ever say something like that. Most of them would support a child being given a chance with a loving caring family no matter what the make up of that family.

Then he should have the tact and intelligence to say it like that. IMO he's a bigot and not at all bright.

I think he's inferring that a child who may already have 'issues' being placed in a gay relationship is potentially adding to the issues and depriving the child of a mother IN HIS OPINION. He's not good at expressing himself is he

Not more important, equally important in a perfect world. We don't live in a perfect world and parents, whatever sex, are far from perfect.

Studies have also stated the opposite. Not that I trust studies of this kind - they can have desired outcomes depending on who's financing them and for what purpose.

The fact that you say you feel sorry for the children of gay parents only highlights for some people that there is still not enough tolerance for it to be the best option for children who may already feel different once they know they are adopted and then have to contend with the bigotry about their parents on top of it.

He wasn't asked to compare two things and chose which was "more mentally cruel" not as far as i know anyway.

But i agree with a previous poster, all things being equal it's better to have mixed sex parents. If only for the fact that kids need to develop an understanding of the difference between the sexes.

That's not to say, imo, it's damaging to put kids into a gay family, it's just to speak idealistically.

Are you saying gay parents won't be able to help their child develop an understanding of the opposite sex?

Single parents are able to do so.

I'm guessing we will see any effect if there is any of single parenting and same sex parenting over the next few decades, it's not something that be judged over even 2 decades

Not that they wont be able to, but that it wont be a natural part of the home.

How do gay parents teach their kids about the opposite sex?

When children are placed for adoption, the 'Ideal' is obviously the 'best' option....

That's where i'm coming from... from a perspective of A. Adoption B. Same sex parents. Both attributions have pitfalls making them not ideal options. imo

I think Winston is coming from the point of view that homosexuality is wrong and therefore it;s child abuse to put a child into that situation.

I felt sorry for him yesterday when he was thrown to the wolves, but he was quite unable to explain his views, other than it being his religion. He'd obviously never read the part of the bible where Jesus said "Judge not, lest ye be judged". That prophesy certainly came true for Winston yesterday.

I thought the meeting was embarrassing. Just Winston wanting a platform to promote himself. Telling them he'd take questions and getting them to put their hands up. The ones that left said it all without saying anything.
